The sign about Jesus offends a Christian, too
I do not have time to read all the paper, or listen to all the hype, but I did hear enough about Reza Salami protesting a Christian bumper sticker in a patrol car.
I, too, could be considered a practicing Christian, and I, too, would be offended to be placed in the back of a patrol car with a sticker aimed at me shouting,
"Jesus is your savior."
First off, I think we know not all denominations use this phrase.
Secondly, I feel that my spiritual or religious beliefs are personal, and Bible-thumpers are intrusive.
Lastly, such an evangelical remark really does not belong in a vehicle that was bought with my tax money.
I can't sit in judgment of whether Salami was right or wrong in whatever he was apprehended for, but I can say that as a spiritual person, I am offended at times by what people pass off as being Christian.

...a sticker aimed at me "shouting"...
Perception, Valery, perception.
Cue here for Salami to enter with another ancient history lesson on Persia to once again prove he has been the victim...not the perp...

"Lastly, such an evangelical remark really does not belong in a vehicle that was bought with my tax money"..............................
don't break the kaw and this probably won't happen.
Christian is a word derived from Christ. Christ is the Savior of mankind, therefore Jesus is your Savior.
" not all denominations use this phrase"................
the denominations that do use this phrase are considered Christians.
" practicing Christian"...."in the back of a patrol car"....
typically should not go well together, but i'm certain there are exceptions.

The writer says:
"I, too, could be considered a practicing Christian, and I, too, would be offended to be placed in the back of a patrol car with a sticker aimed at me shouting,
"Jesus is your savior."
And also says:Secondly, I feel that my spiritual or religious beliefs are personal, and Bible-thumpers are intrusive."
I find these rather odd statements from a "practicing Christian".
I would think it would offend you more to be placed in the back of a patrol car, than seeing a sign about your professed savior.

I sent an email to the N&R asking when they are going to put this dead horse in the grave. They responded that they are no longer accepting Salami letters but had a few left in the hopper. Hopefully this will be the last one.

What this issue has brought to the forefront is how "bumper sticker theology" (and t-shirt, et al) can lead to poor theology of the masses. Sadly, far too many spiritual leaders today seem to latch on to this and help to propagate as well. That is a poor testament to higher education. That is hoping that these spiritual leaders (pastors, etc.) have a higher education!
