Curly, Larry and Moe tackle the U.S. economy
God help us. We have encountered a "perfect storm," an economic slowdown during a presidential campaign, with Curly, Larry and Moe (Bush, Reid, Pelosi) in charge of "fixing" things. Only Stephen King could have imagined such a scary scenario. Additionally, all of the candidates, even the ones who should know better, bolted into pander overdrive. So now we have the clowns most responsible for the problems claiming that they'll "fix" the problems.
Next came a mad dash to the microphones to promise us gifts. They've decided to "stimulate" our $13 trillion economy by infusing $150 billion (in May or June). That would be akin to loading 50 gallons of fuel to your DC 10 for a cross-country trip. Mrs. Clinton hated this idea in '02, but she seems to have "grown."
As usual, the Democrats want the tax rebates to go to people who don't pay income taxes, but not to the "rich" folks making $75,000! They also wanted an increase in food stamp spending as an "economic stimulus." When criticized for not fighting for the food stamp increase, Speaker Moe replied that the increase would amount to 10 cents per day!
These are the leaders of our country.

George, if you've lost Tony, then there's no hope for the historians. You'll go down as "Curly" with them too.

You sound surprised Rufus. Conservatives have blasted Bush for years on wasteful government spending (and illegal immigration). Now he joins up with Congress to go $150 billion more in debt to the Chinese in order to shower us with money so we can buy more Chinese goods. This is our government.

Dan,
You bring up a good point. Why is it that the largest debts in history have all been run up by people that call themselves "conservatives"?
Fiscally speaking I suspect the 2 most conservative Presidents recently have been Clinton & Carter.

It will be interesting to watch the national debt decline while implementing national healthcare.

“Conservatives have blasted Bush for years … “
Yada Yada.
“Conservatives” are the ones that put him in office – with the same very minimal credentials they currently blast Obama for not having.
“Conservatives” are the ones that LIKE wasteful government spending when it is called a “Tax Cut”.
“Conservatives” are the ones that supported his hysterical “us against them” rhetoric.
“Conservatives” are the ones that supported the dumping of the American Rights as part of that “us against them” rhetoric.
“Conservatives” are the ones that DIDN'T screamed when Afghanistan was being abandoned for Iraq. How's it going in Afghanistan, anyway?
“Conservatives” are the ones that screamed “you’re aiding the terrorists” when it was pointed out Iraq was going headed South.
“Conservatives” are the ones who remain deafening silent on the disappearance of the “Coalition of the Willing”
“Conservatives” are … one can go on for quite a while.
No, it’s all partisan rhetoric. “My Teams Better Than Your Team” .. regardless of any reality.

Dan - ya kinda prove the point with "It will be interesting to watch the national debt decline while implementing national healthcare".
Now I'm the first to expect it to get mucked up .. but you and I both pay $600 / month for our health care .. if that amount went instead to "health care taxes", it would be cash neutral .. but thepoint is WE DON'T KNOW .. but I dare you to declare your post had no Anti-Hillary Care inference.

Amen, Tony!

"but you and I both pay $600 / month for our health care .. if that amount went instead to "health care taxes", it would be cash neutral"
One key difference JDR. I use BSBSNC at the moment. If they piss me off I can take my business elsewhere. I choose to pay the $600, I don't have the govt. mandating I pay it and reporting me to the IRS for not paying it as the Edwards plan supported. If I want to pay less I can find a lower cost plan with a higher deductible and throw the money into a savings acct. for minor stuff.
Bottom line is I have choices as do you. More govt. limits choices. After all I'm pro-choice with mainly one exception as noted in the Coble post.

Agreed ... with distinction between "cash neutral" and "choice".

Forgive this re-direct, but since the Coble post is rapidly drifting into oblivion ... here's part of my response posted there:

Stacy "never revealed her situation nor her solution"; her parents had no clue.
Some argue if we were simply more open about things - if we could simply discuss it without hyperbole and hardened positions, there would be many fewer of these murders, American citizens and otherwise .. as well as fewer suicides. I happen to be one of those folks, and guess Stacy's clueless parents would agree.

James,
I can say I agree with you 100% on this one. Since when did "conservative" come to mean running up the largest deficits in the history of the United States? Rufus makes a good point, in that the two most "fiscally conservative" Presidents have been Democrats! Carter wanted zero based budgeting and Clinton, masterfully, trumped Gingrinch in the government shutdown game, making Gingrinch look like a fool. That enabled the serious ones to craft legislation and pass it right under the nose of the majority. Carter appointed Paul Volcker as his Fed Chief, who ratcheted up interest rates to break the back of inflation--it may have cost Carter his second term, but what the fed did, was the best thing for the country.
And for the seance crowd, working to conjur the spirit of Ronald Reagan.....Not ONE balanced budget was ever proposed by Ronald Reagan. Bush #1 was a good fellow, but fell victim to two things: 1) Perot's candidacy 2)Mess left to him by Reagan--the longer the party, the worse the hangover.
It is refreshing to see that at least one has seen the light on his party's misuse of the word "Conservative". Tip o' the hat to ya Dan!

Dan says,
"You sound surprised Rufus. Conservatives have blasted Bush for years on wasteful government spending (and illegal immigration)."
Conservatives blasting Bush? Where? Certainly not on FoxNoiseChannel. Today, Bush told the giddy "Conservatives" at CPAC to get behind McCain and they closed their pie holes and goose stepped right there to the music.
FWIW: Saw a bumper sticker out on
I-40 today that said, "Ted Bundy was a Republican".
I laughed so hard, I almost cried! My friend in the car reminded me that Ted was, in fact, a Republican. In fact, he was in the Young Republicans out in some western state.
The truth really is stranger than fiction.

Demon Deacon, John Wayne Gacy Jr. killed 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978 was active in the Democratic party. In fact, here is a pic of Gacy and Jimmy Carter's wife Rosalyn.
