Suspensions at Grimsley should still be enforced
Please read the story from Memphis (News & Record, A7, Feb. 12) to help explain why officials are correct in their enforcement of the suspensions discussed on page A1, the same day, about the fight at Grimsley High. Is this what you want to happen?
Luckily, at Grimsley, it was a fight without guns. But unless there is meat in the administration's action and support from the community, it will surely escalate into worse. What kind of example are these parents setting by defending the undisciplined actions of their children?
Stick to your decisions, administrators. The parents should be inconvenienced, not the rest of the students attending school in fear.

Mr. Rives,
Remember who you are addressing here, the Guilford County School Board. Through past actions, they have demonstrated that they have backbones of jelly. Of course, they will roll over from a little pressure from those parents.
You might want to tune in to Channel 2 at 11:00 pm tonight. They are airing a special about the school's cover-up of violence. This matter would seem to fit right into the theme.

I loved how the parents of these kids protested the school board meeting demanding their little darlings suspensions be revoked. "They won't be able to become doctors and lawyers with this on their records", paraphrased, said one mother.
