Those who apologize should offer thanks
As a citizen of the United States, I am writing to the whole world, to Michael Badgett (letter, Feb. 2), and to all the other American apologizers out there.
You are welcome for thanking the United States for the end of British domination of the world in 1776, for the Ford Model T, for the incandescent light bulb, for the airplane, for fighting the Nazis in Europe and ending World War II, for the microwave oven, for the World Wide Web, and the list goes on.
Lastly, you are welcome for the gratitude that you show us for electing a president who has the gumption and foresight to take on radical jihadis head on. Our brave citizens and their families have already sacrificed nearly 4,000 brave men and women, and we are ready to carry on until all of you are safe.
Once again, you are welcome.

Mr. Deshmukh, It must be the liberals do not want us to be the land of the free.
Berkley voted to kick the marines out of town.
Marty Finkbeiner, told the marines to get out the town of Toledo , Ohio. Now where is the out cry from the liberal press on this? Where are the LTE on this? We always hear this BS from the liberals we support the troops, we are against the war. Now show me the support.

"Lastly, you are welcome for the gratitude that you show us for electing a president who has the gumption and foresight to take on radical jihadis head on."
Obviously an uninformed slouch who never read any of the books written by bitter has-been pundits who would prefer the US dig the islamofascits' sewers and hope they appreciated it to the point that they would decide not to hit us again.

Uh, and committed the total of our discretionary forces to one place where there was no significant terrorist presence. Interesting usage of the phrase "head on".
I'll agree with you Neo on your point that Sanjeev isn't very well read.
"Wow .. Bushy ranks up there with the Light Bulb!"
And the microwave!

The sad part Rufus, is Mr. Deshmukh most likely 'chose to be uninformed' by not reading those pacifying handbooks on "How To Survive BDS".
Posted on February 10, 2008 9:24 AM
So the headline reads:
Toledo to Marines: Drop dead
But is that a quote, or just spin? I'm not defendnig the guy - he did someting stupid .. but I've not yet read where anyone ever "Drop dead".
Maybe you're making a mountain out of a mole hill, Biting Dog. Listening to FOXX too much?

" ... has-been pundits who would prefer the US dig the islamofascits' sewers ... "
... ahh weren't you the one .. when asked to show "proof" this surge was going well ... then posted stories how Soldiers and Marines were Winning the Hearts and Minds of Iraqi Citizens .. by getting city services working (sewers etc.)?
Oh how selective thou art, Neo.

He lost me with: "You are welcome for thanking the United States for the end of British domination of the world in 1776."
You see, the British are still the dominate world financial power and have been the #1 foreign investor in the United States every year since 1776 and now that they've got the United States Military to do their heavy work they've little need for military might as it's well known you can kill more people with a briefcase than a gun.
America's liberals AND conservatives need to get their heads out of each other's butts and see the world for what it really is.
What's amazing is the arrogance of people like Sanjeev Deshmukh when they are the ones who are being forced to suffer at the hands of the real world rulers-- multinational corporations whose corporate histories go back to England, Holland and Germany-- who have no regardnor compassion for their own best defenders like Sanjeev Deshmukh.

And who said the comedy writers were on strike!
This letter caused me to laugh, thus releasing those good old healthy endorphins. Thank you, Sanjeev!
NOTE: If by chance you are here illegally, then all the supportive posts above, will diminish instantaneously.

'The sad part Rufus, is Mr. Deshmukh most likely 'chose to be uninformed' by not reading those pacifying handbooks on "How To Survive BDS".'
The good news is that scientists are testing a cure for BSD & expect it to be ready early next year.
The bad news it that there is a distinct possibility that it will be replaced by CDS or ODS. Fortunately these 2 diseases aren't expected to affect the same populations as the epidemic of BDS that is going around so that 68% of the population (and growing) will at least be spared.

"Our brave citizens and their families have already sacrificed nearly 4,000 brave men and women, and we are ready to carry on until all of you are safe."
Sanjeev,
Unless you're posting from Iraq your usage of the royal "we" is a bit bold.
Like TLC I got a tremendous laugh out of this letter and I thank you!
"Once again, you are welcome."

Dawg,
How do you know Mr. Finkbeiner is a liberal? What else do you know about him? What are his other policy positions? It sounded like a bureaucratic breakdown more than anything as sinister as liberalism gone a muck.
Or is liberal just a meaningless word?

"How do you know Mr. Finkbeiner is a liberal?"
That's easy, he's a Democrat!!
Posted on February 10, 2008 3:45 PM
"You are welcome for thanking the United States ....for the incandescent light bulb..."
Ah the incandescent light bulb, eeeeviiilll contributor to global warming and soon to be banned so run down to Home Depot and stock up now if you like 'em. And the Model T, predecessor of todays assembly line vehicles that are the root cause of drowning polar bears. Let's not get started on the airplane, damn Orville & Wilbur.
Global warming is America's fault, we invented all these things!!

Ah Dan, to live in such a simple uncomplicated world! You're a lucky man.

My bad Rufus, I had this silly notion that most liberals are Democrats. 'Scuse me sir, I called Barbara Streisand and Harry Belefonte and they said they always vote straight Republican.
How about a few of these:
Finkbeiner was the focus of a segment on the Daily Show poking fun at statements he made suggesting that Toledo could be the next Hollywood. During the interview, Carty expressed his ideas while the camera fixated on Toledo's most rundown neighborhoods, contrasting them with the glitz and glamor of Hollywood.
******************************
Finkbeiner suggested relieving the problem of noise complaints from neighbors of Toledo Express Airport by selling homes nearby at low cost to deaf people.
*************************************************
Finkbeiner has also suggested a cafe be built on the Martin Luther King bridge so city employees could eat there while the bridge was undergoing construction.
****************************************************
In May 2006, he called Toledo's African-American Fire Chief Michael Bell “King Kong” at a staff meeting. Finkbeiner later clarified his remarks as relating to the Chiefs physical stature, and Chief Bell has acknowledged in public that he took no offense to the remarks.
******************************************
If it makes you feel better Rufus there are some liberals in the Republican party as well, RINOS they are called.
Posted on February 10, 2008 4:53 PM
One more Rufus as you didn't seem to grasp my humor, anyone named "Finkbeiner" has got to be a liberal. :)
Gotta go watch some football, last game of the season and then I go into football withdrawal for six months.

" ... RINOS they are called"
Like Christine Todd Whitman - whom Cheney personally elbowed out of the R Party because she was a moderate.
"The defining feature of the conservative viewpoint is a faith in the ability, and a respect for the right, of individuals to make their own decisions - economic, social, and spiritual - about their lives. The true conservative understands that government's track record in respecting individual rights is poor when it dictates individual choices."
... so make your own decisions ... but make sure you agree with Us.
No Dan - it's not Liberals vs. Republicans .. it's "Us against Them" and Radicals against Radicals with no room for responsible moderates.

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/cheney/chapters/leaving_no_tracks/index.html
"The Klamath case is one of many in which the vice president took on a decisive role to undercut long-standing environmental regulations for the benefit of business." ... especially "when the Bush-Cheney ticket lost by less than half of 1 percent" and lord knows "Bush and Cheney couldn't afford to anger thousands of solidly Republican farmers and ranchers during the midterm elections and beyond" .. even though - talking about RINOS - the 2006 Republican Congress approved "more than $60 million in disaster aid to help fishermen recover their losses. That came on top of the $15 million that the government has paid Klamath farmers since 2002 not to farm, in order to reduce demand".

ok - it's the Washington Post .. but that does not automatically make the reporting erroneous.
Posted on February 11, 2008 4:06 AM
... and even Bushy has said .. many times, "It's Hard Work!" .. and after all, someones' gotta do it.
Posted on February 11, 2008 4:09 AM
... and just so we're clear .. I do believe "Cheney believes he is "using his authority to serve the American people .. " ... but the same could be said about either Clinton, Sanjeev Deshmukh, and even Neocon.

I hear Ambien works really well JDR :)
Posted on February 11, 2008 11:20 AM
Ambien does not make all people sleep. It just makes them forget they haven't slept!
Posted on February 11, 2008 11:35 AM
I wouldn't know Yvonne, never tried the stuff but believe you. I just worry about my bud JDR up blogging at 3:30 in the morning.
Posted on February 11, 2008 12:42 PM
Dan - thanks for the concern .. but I'd rather you pay attention to the facts discussed than worry about my health.
Posted on February 11, 2008 7:34 PM
Sorry you missed the smiley :) face in my post JDR. I'm simply curious. What on earth are you doing up at 3:30 am firing off numerous posts? Do you usually get up that early? Just curious.
Posted on February 11, 2008 8:22 PM
I saw the smiley face - thanks. Truth is I only need about 5 hours sleep, and am just an early riser - usually taking a short nap mid-day to recharge the battery.
When I wake -up, I get up. I usually read the news online, and check in here, 'cause often it's civil and local and thought provoking. If I get up "too early", sometines I go back to bed for a bit, but that usually screws up my internal clock.
Frankly I blog because writing it helps me organize my thoughts. Feedback causes me to research my positions, making sure they are not just fantasy - that there is legit' basis - and sometinges adjusting them. So when another throws out fantasy, I do get frustrated when - as Roger recently noted in a similar thread - my follow-up seems to go un-read.
Challange I can deal with. Agreeing to disagree I can deal with (often there really are two or more legit' positions) ... but BS is just BS.
