To heat or to eat?
I know a man who gets only $600 a month to live on. His heating bill was $212 one month when he had his thermostat sitting on 68 degrees.
Two hundred dollars goes to buy groceries each month. That leaves $200 for water, lights and a few other necessities, like gas. We live in a free country -- the best in the world -- but it is getting harder and harder for people to live in so-called comfort.
God bless all those who live in cold houses and cannot turn up the heat because they still need to pay the other bills.

Don't worry, Iris, this poor chap, who gets only $600 a month (that's $20 / day) will soon be out from under that rock and a hard place - and in assisted care where he'll have $57.60 / day.

LTE you left out to many details, is this person sick, are just refuses to work? Our group was asked to help a middle age woman, a few weeks back on her heating bill. We learned a while back to check out everything. She had cable TV, Internet and a new SUV sitting in her yard. So while you may have a point, you need to clarify, with more details.

Ok JDR I followed your advice and submitted your abuse :)
Read Allen Johnson's blog "Throwing Cyber-mud". He took the now famous Nitpicker compilation of Demon Deacon cyber-mud and wrote about it. My favorite line:
"In still other cases, it appears that grown-ups seem somehow emboldened by the Internet to throw mud and insults."
http://blog.news-record.com/staff/outloud/archives/2008/02/throwing_cyberm.shtml#comments
That would describe the case to me. He also noted that Demon Deacon would be ousted if any more "off color commenting continues".
Nit you are the man. The time you took to compile you post was well worth the effort. How long did it take anyway?

TDBB brings up interesting questions. My guess is the man is retired. He likely owns his home as the LTE author didn't mention house payments/rental in the equation. Besides there isn't any way to live on $600/month with mortgage or rental costs involved. More information is needed.
Didn't notice any solution from Ms. Newby except for God to bless him. God can do that but he doesn't write checks to Duke Energy. Perhaps Ms. Newby could form a community or church effort to assist the man.

He gets only $600 a month to live on? He should get more to live on. Probably capitalists, Republicans, and the Chinese/Mexicans have made this impossible.

Brian 444, Unless you know more than the rest of us please explain why he should get more money to live on. If this man is not sick, why does it become the taxpayers job to support him. if this man is sick, I would hope the folks of Greensboro would help him. Taxpayers job no way.

I'm sure Brian was being sarcastic, Biting Dog .. but am not sure I disagree with his statements when taken literally.
Believe in Capitalism, but do not trust capitalists. (consider the corruption in the US Senate post civil war for perhaps 50 years).
Republicans do not walk on water, and neither do Democrats.
The Corporation of China is assisting in the Financialization of America. The Corporation of China is making money the old fashion way .. earning it. Much of America is making money the new way - financial games - a short term strategy that was also followed by the last three "World Leader" Countries to lose that status.
Ditto Mexicans (and other immigrants), who act in their own interest, are participating in the same feeding frenzy - supported by both American business and the American People.
