Accompany tax cuts with spending restraints

The Republican solution to any domestic problem is to cut taxes. This has become their single most important issue. But getting it right eludes them.

Cutting taxes dominates their campaign rhetoric. Read my lips: Taxes are a necessary evil. It takes money to run a government. Things don't happen in a vacuum. You have action, reaction -- cause, effect. Cutting taxes without a corresponding reduction in spending is unconscionable. Spending and taxes are like a tooth and its ache. You treat the tooth to get rid of the ache. The road to lower taxes is through fiscally responsible spending.

If Republicans had guts, they would preach spending cuts. It takes guts to confront special-interest groups and lobbyists. Entrenched government bureaucrats are also a problem. It's politically expedient to offer a small tax cut to a gullible electorate while granting huge tax breaks to corrupt corporations. There is no quick fix.

We may need a black man or white woman, separate or together, to right the ship.

We the people. The truth and soul of this country. Peace.

...but Max, you forget the Laffer Curve .. the logical if undefinable rational for all things Republican!

.. and while I agree with "The road to lower taxes is through fiscally responsible spending." ... you missed a key point: "Republicans [do] preach spending cuts" ... it only that they have not been practicing what they preach.

Yea just look to Raleigh! They will show you how to pee away taxpayers funds and still get the endorsement of the lame stream media. I am always amazed we get these letters that know how to solve all the national problems, were are the ones on how to solve state problems.
$20 million on repaving I 40 dot screw up!
Parton Theatre 25 million shot!
One new highway caving in from word go!
Black had to solved by the feds.
The Duke men would be in jail, had it not been for the Yankee press!
Barry Saunders of the NO still preaches these men should not receive compensation. Seems he thinks it ok as long as democrats got elected over this. So show me one letter in the lame stream media on things like this. Looks to me we should clean our own house first.

I had to take a second look at the date of this letter, and sure enough it's dated 3/14/08. I thought it must have written on or about 10/06 and was lost in the mail.

Hey Max, haven't you heard...the congress was taken over by the democrats in 06. You know... the same congress that controls the purse strings?

James,
The GOP has done a good job of brainwashing their lemmings (neo, doggie, etc) into thinking that if taxes are cut, everything runs just fine...no deficits and no problems!
It is pure "borrow and spend" and when compared to how they characterize Dems as "tax and spend", it has far more dangerous consequences.

So, neo, just go on thinking you can cut taxes and run an 18 million dollar PER HOUR war in Iraq and create the largest bureacracy in the history of the U.S. You are truly out of touch with reality.

Liberal Canadianette, you need a refresher course in civics AND reading comprehension.
Your democrats are in control of the purse strings dear, not the wascally wepublicans. It is they who passed the 3 Trillion budget. (with funding for the Iraq war, I might add) I think Harry and the Queen pulled the wool over the eyes of the lemmings when they promised to end the war...but that was pre-11/06.

I agree with this, problem is govt. is incapable of fiscally responsible spending or reducing spending.

If Mr. Roseman thinks either Obama or Hillary is going to promote fiscally responsible spending while nationalizing health care and initiating a myriad of other social programs then I have some proverbial swamp land for sale.

Just curious about the black man and white woman reference, why not just use their names?

Max, you make some great points. When it comes to spending the Republicans learned well from the Demo-Rats 40 year reign that the way to keep power is spend the taxpayer's money to hand out gifts to big donors, get as many people dependent on governement as possible, continue to reduce the number of us who pay income taxes so they will support any tax increase "for the wealthy" (anyone who earns more than them), and when polled say they are against tax cuts.

The Republicrats of recent years were even worse on spending than the Demo-Rats. Now we have to pay the price by having the Keystone Kops running the congress. They can't even competently hold their own primaries, yet they are running the country. Get out your calculators and add up the proposed dollars needed for their goodie packages.

Do you remember how everyone decried "divided" governement? Yet those periods prevented what we saw when either party controlled the White House and Congress. Clinton's first two years were a fiasco, then the Repubs took the congress and we got many needed reforms. They lasted until Bush had both houses, and things got out of hand again. The Demo-Rats took the congressin 06' and Bush discovered the spending veto. It ain't that complicated!

Gosh Tony! Under your myopic thinking, we should all thank the GOP for ending the drought too!

You never disappoint. Your hyperbole, and your epithets like 'demorat' etc. define you as a first rate clown. You are never an American, but instead you are ALWAYS a Republican. You personify what the great majority objects to in our national discourse. : )
