Bush shows contempt for the Constitution
Michael Crouch (letter, Feb. 20) shows how inconsistent and intolerant a conservative and a true believer can be toward opposing points of view. Crouch is concerned about Supreme Court appointees by a Democratic president, who might interpret the U.S. Constitution differently than authoritarian Republicans would like.
While his concern for the Constitution is touching, perhaps he should be reminded that, for more than seven years, a right-wing Republican has been in the White House and he has shown nothing but contempt for the Constitution.
King George W. has, in fact, attempted to set up an unconstitutional monarchy, answerable to no one. Bush has violated the letter and the spirit of the Constitution through flouting habeas corpus, warrantless wiretaps, unlawful torture of prisoners of war and claiming executive privilege when asked to cooperate with congressional oversight committees exercising their constitutional duties.
Conservatives hold six seats on the Supreme Court as opposed to one moderate and two liberals. Radicals are not satisfied with anything but total domination, which is the authoritarian mind-set of right-wing Republicans and true believers. Fair-minded people would want all sides heard.

You "fair minded people" have been engaged in property confiscation by the government to fund their vote buying schemes for 75 years now, Danno.
No constitutional crisis there, huh? But when Bush wants to listen in on the terrorists' phone conversations...well it's Nellie Bar the Door! Can't have the jihadists' right to privacy violated now can we?

Both parties steal from us. Democrats and Republicans alike.
There is not an ideological difference at all between the two. Each is after more power. They don't even pretend anymore that they are after anything else.
Only a fool could possibly believe that one party is more righteous than the other.
And it is because of such fools that America is fast becoming a lost cause.

"Can't have the jihadists' right to privacy violated now can we?"
How stupid are you, neocon? Your inability to grasp a complex situation is no different than our Commander-in-Chief's. Hyperbole, and/or fear, are your only methods left to argue in favor of gutting the Constitution.
Your mother's calling you now, neo. Run on home and play with your remaining "friends". Oh, you might want to pick up a copy of the 9/11 commission report AND information on the Downing Street Memo. That, alongside a dictionary, should keep you busy for hours!

"King George W. has, in fact, attempted to set up an unconstitutional monarchy,..."
Use of the King George reference is a clear symptom of BDS. Newsflash Danny, there is an election going on. If GWB were king, there would be no election, he wouldn't vacate the White House in Jan. '09.

Hey, TLC, what's the chances that you get the public to buy the $1/2 Billion school bond package? I especially liked this line to justify them: "That is approximately equivalent to one Big Mac from McDonalds per week or one Latte from Starbucks per week." Appealing to the lunchbucket crowd and the liberal elite at the same time. You just might need that lunchbucket crowd to get our bonds passed, huh?

Lib- no need for ad hominem attacks on Neo.
Over the past couple of days, he has stated his views very clearly.
Yesterday, he argued only the wealthy are entitled to be healthy and, today, that the President's "rights" are more important than the Bill of Rights, particularly the 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th Amendments.
He is entitled to his opinions. That would be the 1st Amendment. Perhaps he's unaware of the others.

Another insane liberal. So the court has six conservatives two liberals and one moderate. Ginsburg, Breyer, Stephens, and Souter all hard core liberals, and Kennedy who doesn't know what he is.
Any idiot knows that if there were six conservsatives on the court, Roe.vs. Wade would be gone, The McCain-Feingold blatan attack on the First Amendment would have struck down as blatantly unconstitutional, waterboarding would be "required", the right of giovernments to take our property and turn it over to a developer or builder simply to increase tax revenues would never have seen the light of day. There's more if you're interested!
You should never write another letter when you're off your meds!

First of all, Danny Glenn, I will stand on the front line of defense and fight for your right to speek freely. Even, if I truely believe you're so far off the target, you've the lousiest shot, ever!
We are in an age of total and senseless murder. Whether it's committed by a lone mean-ass monster, or an army of mean-ass monster shouting "JIHAD". If tapping every telephone, everywhere saves one life, I'm for it.
If some intelligence agent wants to listen to my conversations with my family and/or friends, well! He better be ready and waiting for a boring and uninterested waste of his time.
If a neighbor, Ishmar, as nice as I think he is, happens to talk to his terror cell leader about the upcoming attack somewhere in town! I sure hope the intelligence agent listening takes the needed action that has to be done!
You can agree or you can agree not to agree. I just don't care what you think. But, I'll defend your right to openly speak about it, idiot! The Dog's outa here.

I think to really save lives, the Federal government should be allowed to secretly install speed limit monitors on all cars and I believe they should put Federal red light cameras in secret locations at every intersection. In fact, let's go ahead and install monitors in every home to keep an eye on people there, too, just like George Orwell said we would. After all, think of everything we're missing when the terrorists aren't actually on the phone.
I also think its cool that the President has the power to listen in on any phone call he wants to, without a warrant. Karl Rove must have loved that idea.
Can't wait for President Obama (President Hillary Clinton?) to have the same power.
And, hey- it's working. In the past 7 years, wiretaps have busted thousands of would-be terrorists! Well,
not thousands, exactly, but hundreds...dozens?
Hmm.
How 'bout just Elliot Spitzer?

"Yesterday, he argued only the wealthy are entitled to be healthy and, today, that the President's "rights" are more important than the Bill of Rights"...
Gimme a bruckin' fake, dude.
So if I don't support the socialist health care system liberals pine for, then I think only the wealthy should enjoy good health huh?
It's this type of convoluted thinking that drove me away from the lunatic ideology of liberalism years ago. Don't want government confiscation of firearms...(you must be in favor of youth violence and armed robbery.) Don't support government sponsored racism known as 'affirmative action'...(you must be a card carrying member of the Klan)...Don't agree with government mailing a check - backed by money confiscated from those who earned it - and turning it over to someone who never lifted anything heavier than a lever in the voting booth...(you must want to starve the 'shilldrun').
Thank God I outgrew their skewered vision of what America should be.
******************************************************
This Elliot Spitzer episode will only serve to elevate him in the ranks of liberalism. They are already rushing to the microphones to condemn anyone who thinks prosecuting prostitution rings by day while checking their oil by night is hypocritical. We'll most likely see comparisons to slick willie and just how awful those nasty, wascally wepublicans are by his apologists before long.

Some here don't see a problem with the government spying on them, in violation of the Constitution.
Most here can't break away from the two-party mentality.
Many here are downright infantile.
If this is typical of the kind of citizenry we have become, then it must be said...
America is screwed.

Please offer solutions, viable solutions to the two party system. I'll agree they both have lost their way.
If someone is being infantile please explain why with details.
As for the citizenry on this blog, I would say people here from all points of view are taking the time to make their voices and opinions known, even Demon Deacon.
Meanwhile many Americans are more concerned about American Idol or which rehab center Brittany Spears is visiting.
Methinks thou art a bit condescending Christopher.
Please tell why attempting to intercept FOREIGN calls from suspected terrorists is breaking the Constitution?
Broad brushed statements like this are tooooo easy.

"Please offer solutions, viable solutions to the two party system. I'll agree they both have lost their way."
Dan, ya see, that's a big part of the problem right there: this ridiculous notion that we're supposed to WAIT for a "viable solution to the two party system", when you and I both know that such a solution will never be tolerated by that system. One way or another, The Powers That Be will keep it from taking root and becoming a threat to them.
Here's the solution: STOP waiting for a solution! We start taking charge of our own destiny, instead of looking to elected officeholders and their sycophants to create our destiny for us.
Dan, have you ever run for office? Have you ever *considered* running for office? If not, you should. I've done it. Didn't win, but I got the satisfaction of knowing that I got off my duff and *did* something more than just voting.
That's what we need Dan: MORE PEOPLE willing to stand up and take charge, and to hell whether they "win" or not.
Winning an election is NOT the goal here. The goal is to know what you believe in, stand up and share that, and if you feel strong enough about it fight for it on your own. You don't have to win one election to win the war. Sooner or later, if you are steadfast in your beliefs and they are sincere ones, they will bear out. It might be someone else who wins an election with them, but if they were sincere beliefs to begin with it won't matter.
That's why other than *one* man running for President from either major party, I can not trust any of them enough to cast a vote for them. It's why Bill Clinton and George W. Bush will share the title of worst Presidents in American history. Because "winning" and acruing of power matter more to them than simple principle. They see winning an election as a triumph for themselves instead of a triumph of their principles. And going along with that game and continuing to enable them is costing us dearly.
I won't mince words here: America is falling. America is almost at the point where it will not be able to recover from its folly. But it doesn't have to be that way... IF people like you and me and everyone else in this country can wake up from the illusion that we "don't count" and that we are supposed to look to the two-party system for answers instead of to ourselves.
Because like it or not, it is ONLY going to be you and me and other regular Americans who can get us out of this mess enough for our children to have something better than we've had.

yea, Praggy, cut Neo a Break.
He doesn't support the socialist health care system liberals pine for ... but he does take the health care program his employer offers, which is in part paid for by the Federal Tax System (deductions, et. al) ... and he claimed to have relatives on welfarem in full paid for by the Federal Tax System ... and soone he'll be accepting Social Security and Medicare checks, although he is "fully" against "the socialist health care system liberals pine for".
After all, Praggy .. and unlike YOU - you socialist Bastard - Neo ... Thank God ... outgrew their skewered vision of what America should be.

Sometimes your ignorant assumptions astounds even me...and that ain't easy to do.
No doubt, you're clear on the "viable solutions" now Dan.

I'd venture to say that you, neocon, make just as many generalizations and skew just as many statements on here as any liberal.

OK - so let's be clear .. are you willing to swear on your Dead Mother's Grave that you .. nor any one on your 1040 ... receive in any way company assisted medical plans?
Are you willing to swear every time you go to the Doctor you - nor any one in your family - pay the full $250 (or what ever) bill that is submitted?
Are you willing to swear that if .. God forbid .. you - nor any one in your family - get cancer, or are in a serious car crash, or have a real medical emeregency, that you pay the Doctor the full $2,500, or $25,000, or $250,000 (or what ever) bill that is submitted?
Are you willing to swear that if .. God forbid .. you get in an accident at work that you will pay the Doctor the full $2,500, or $25,000, or $250,000 (or what ever) bill that is submitted?

That's just one the great thing about being a neocon, rahrah...you can paint liberals with a very broad brush and speak in terms of generalization and STILL rest assured you are 99.99% on the money.

"deafening silence"
.. so you answered my question a couple weeks ago, but like you, I too have other things to do to check every post every day - but I confess too much time in this stupid blog, although I rationalize it as a place to stimulate personal research.
Do I get a nickel for every one that doesn't follow through on things I ask or challange? Frankly, you're fairly good at follow-up .. but so am I.
==
"I do have a 'cancer policy' through my employer."
That to me is what Health INSURANCE ought to be .. kinda like Collision Insurance for cars, which I'd like the other driver to have so when he slams into me, I'm not put out by HIS error.
Similarly - a 'cancer policy' - should that slam into me, I'm not ruined - the risk is spread thoughout a group and actuary tables.
What ruins health care insurance is the bleeding hearts of all political persuasions (yes they come in all colors) who go to Dr. for every hic-up, then insist on the finest of care regardless of cost. For that reason, I'm generically OK with the storied long waits in Canada ... perhaps if you sit long enough waiting, your minor-ache will disappear at no cost to anyone.
==
btw - and from your other post: What the bleeding heart liberals [AND so-called-conservatives AND every other person] ever can't seem to get through their mushy heads is the politicians don't give a damn about them...only their vote and of course their (our) $."
