« Ignore columnist Pitts; he spews vitriol at South | Main | Government priorities need to be realigned »

Don't rely on politicians; rely only on yourselves

Keeping America's promises? Whatever the "promises" are, you've been in office long enough to have kept them! Taxpayers know that more "hidden agendas" and "movements" will surface after the election, right?

We, the taxpayers, are fed up with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and the rest of the political bunch that's selling America out a job at a time. Our once-stable American economy has gone bye-bye, thanks to your so-called promises! American people of all races are suffering, thanks to politicians like you. There's absolutely no more money for health care, schools, jails, prisons, social and welfare programs, your salaries, your six to eight offices and all your freebies. Do you think taxpayers should continue to pay since you sold America out and gave their jobs and security away?

Being a minority and growing up in the South, we were taught to be frugal. If we didn't have money, we didn't spend money. What a concept! We grew our own food and raised our own chickens, cows and pigs. We were taught if you couldn't keep your promises, don't make them! Remember, folks, these promises and words are what made you who you are today.

Wake up, Americans! It's time to take responsibility for yourselves.

This lady "gets" it.

Did "Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and the rest of the political bunch " ...

I'm assuming this was unintentionally biased, and by including "the rest of the political bunch" Shirley really meant John McCain too, as well as other "politicians".

Regardless ..

Who is "selling America out a job at a time".

I see BOTH "politicians" and most American's as being guilty of standing idle as this country was "sold" and our jobs and security were given away?

If you supported the brand of "Free Trade" that was being sold, you are guilty, 'cause most deals were slanted against American jobs and security .. in the name of "Everyday Low Prices!" and towards the interest of well connected (mostly not-through the "hard-work" and risk-taking" that is so cavalierly bandied).

Ditto ... if you supported the "Capitalism is Good" (which it is) but did not equally require checks and balances on "Capitalists". Reagan's ol'
"Trust but Verify" should be applied here too.

Ditto ... if you voted a straight ticket. They're almost all selfish bastards.

JDR,
I couldn't agree more. Most of your statements ring true to my Libertarian mind.
The sad part is, as you know, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't push him in".
Miss deLong, I applaud your observations, even if you did seem to gloss over the repubs.

"Being a minority.."

Is this a cleverly disguised "Geraldine Ferraro type feminist" or is this lady of color? Just posing the question.

No, you weren't just posing the question-
Your thinly veiled racism and sexism is brightly spotlighted by your insinuation that Ms. deLong is anything but what she says she is.
Ms. deLong, your artistry and sensitivity is a blessing to our community.

Ms = minority as per applied rules.
Republican = minority most places
White = soon to be minority everywhere.

Yeah, I hated that Clinton-Gore surplus.

"Do you think taxpayers should continue to pay since you sold America out and gave their jobs and security away?" I seriously doubt that Ms. deLong could move around in her house without bumping into something that was made in China. If she typed her lte with an IBM Selectric, she is probably safe, but, odds are that she typed her letter on a computer, and we know that there are some foreign made components in most computers. If she owns a television, she is definitely watching one that is foreign made. My point is that it is hypocritical to rant about American jobs being moved overseas, when you go out and buy products that are certainly not made in the US. We complain about American jobs that are being moved overseas, but what about the jobs that Honda, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota and Hyundai brought to this country? With the exception of Honda, most of the new auto jobs and plants are located in the South. And believe me, these workers are enjoying wages that they would not likely see in a hosiery or furniture factory.

Unfortunately, not all people can be self-sufficient, in fact, I doubt any can without isolating themselves from society. Sure we should take responsibility for ourselves, but it'd be good if we could help out those in need. It'd also be good if we weren't spending billions on an essentially fruitless, misguided war.

How did women get to be classified a "minority"? Aren't there more women than men in America? I'm just saying...

And despite the Ghost's buying into the Rush Limbaugh scare tactics, none of us will be alive when white folks are outnumbered by another group. Rest easy white folks.

Busier than heck. I followed your example and went out and started "working". My wife kicked me out of the solar-powered geodesic dome house and made me give up my job at the food co-op for a real job. What a concept. Now that I pay taxes, I see what you were all talking about. I'm a changed man.

Just kidding Dan. Lots going on with the job, and it hasn't afforded me the opportunity to check in during the day. Just thought I'd pop by to see if anything's changed. Surprisingly, neocon hasn't come around to Obama, and DD hasn't become another Karl Rove. Maybe I didn't wait long enough.

Did I see that you were headed to PEI this spring? Biz or pleasure? I was in the Maritimes last year -- interesting place. Have fun.

Wow! It was obvious to me that this was NOT a minority, but for it to be a WHITE REPUBLICAN is really telling.

Shows how far these folks will go to provide misinformation. Probably a Regent University grad who "used" to work in the Bush administration.

Ghost, your lack of knowledge pretty much leaves you ignored here. I hear one can still find remote land in Idaho where they can sit around with other myopic folks, and talk about how all the minorities are ruining America. Maybe you need to head to the state of "Wide Stance" Larry and build that little OSB cabin you've always dreamed of. Okay, maybe part OSB and part Marine Plywood. Oh, take neo and Ellis with you, as they will fit right in too!

It really is a sad thing to go online and see such ignorant comments over and over and from the same two or three people.
-------
HowieG,
Scare tactics from the likes of Rush Limbaugh have taken hold with the ignorant white males who consider themselves "victims" every time someone else gets a leg up in the world. It is not just Ghost, but even folks who should have more sense than to "buy into" the screed. Sad indeed.

Liberal Canadianette,
I'm just curious, does your African-American boyfriend have one of those 'black ethnic' names like 'LaShaka' or is it one of the more traditional names?

I wonder if Ms. deLong thinks she pulled one over on us or if she is aware that she has been exposed online.

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

We could write her a letter and ask her to explain what minority group she feels she is a member of...there's more than ethnic or gender minority.

For instance, I'm a white male, but (technically) I fit nicely into a minority group, even if I don't feel like a minority (being that I'm a white male). Well, there was one time I felt like a minority--at Myrtle Beach on Black Biker Week.
