Economic realities apply to public employees, too
Council representative Goldie Wells was quoted as saying, "People are feeling very badly about not knowing whether they're going to have their jobs or not," referring to city employees and the call for a work-force reduction. Welcome to the real world.
Wells' comments show just how out of touch government officials and employees are with the realty of today's economic situation. How does she think the textile and furniture people have felt for years? Government employees seem to think they're recession-proof and their job is some type of entitlement. Unfortunately, the elected officials treat them as such.
Government employees need to understand that they have a stake in this economy like the rest of the folks and are subject to the same harsh realities of a declining economy.

Yes, TLC, I do not agree with it either. Dot Kearns did, indeed, work hard, but it was the direction that she wanted to take the schools that was the problem. She was most passionate about things, but many people did not like how she used their children in pursuit of her political agenda.
Did you enjoy working with Dot?

TLC,
I'm a little puzzled as to what David is driving at too.
He seems hostile towards government employees & seems to revel in their misfortune. The statement he is commenting on seemed to be a perfectly natural and appropriate appraisal of the situation. Perhaps it was the sympathy that Dave didn't like. Hate to tell David but government employees are people too with similar concerns as employees of private industry. They get downsized too.
Kind of a sad comment.
