Nonpartisan elections editorial was partisan
Well, here we go again.
Every time the Democrats get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, the News & Record trots out and calls for a nonpartisan election.
I speak of the editorial (Feb. 26) calling for a nonpartisan election for state auditor.
Before Leslie Merritt, our state finances were the playpen of the likes of Jim Black and his cronies. Why this sudden call? Could it be that Merritt is doing his job?
When Republicans began to be elected as judges -- because most voters see them as being more law-and-order than their counterparts -- here comes the News & Record to call for nonpartisan elections.
After running this state for more than 130 years, the Democrats just can't give up their corrupt power and sense of entitlement.
Don't fool yourself. There are no nonpartisan elections. The former state Democratic chairman has bragged about pumping money into mayoral races to get Democrats elected in nonpartisan races. (As an example, the mayoral race in High Point.)
Come on, News & Record, can't you be honest at least for once?

Well, here we go again, another non-partisan letter. Not! It is another biased, partisan person who wants to criticize every one else for being biased and partisan.

Kindley,
Why don't you expose, for all the world to see, that you were ONCE the chair of the local GOP?????? You, like Tony Moschetti of High Point, cannot see the world without putting on partisan glasses.
People are tired of your brand of politics, so grow up and try thinking about what is right for the community and not how you can advance your agenda.
By the way, folks should know that you were disavowed by the state GOP officials and were totally neglected in your attempt to be State chair. How about a little truth in advertising there Marcus????? The GOP doesn't even like your brand of "us vs. them"!

I see lots of folks who are unhappy about state of NC. I agree that some were caught doing wrong and they were Democrats. I seriously doubt that all Republicans in state offices are totally without blemish. Our state budget is balanced, the state employees retirement fund has been handled well and is still in good shape, we have good roads, our state taxes are not unreasonable. While not all is perfect, I like calling North Carolina Home. And you don't see scandal after scandal or constant bickering in High Point. Maybe someone is doing something right?

Folks: I hate to point out the obvious, but facts are facts. Our State budget is not balanced, we are borrowing against our pension funds our road funds and on and on. Learn the facts.
Fact Two I never claimed to be non-partisan. I find it laughable that those who holler non-partisan are usually Democrats in sheep clothing. Why, because the left has found this is a way to win without divulging their true agenda?
As far as running for state chairman, well I traveled across the great state and talked to THOUSANDS of voters. The rank and file did not reject me but those seeking to hold on to power worked using their surrogates to spread lies and inuendo, alas that is how politics work.
(Reference: Ronald Reagan vs. Gerald Ford 1976)
And let me give a further fact or two, three of my political heroes, Lincoln, T. Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan failed several times before they and their ideas triumphed. At least I am fighting the good fight and not sitting on my rear end and pontificating like some we read here.
And Liberal conservative, let's set the record straight, I WAS ELECTED OVERWHELMINGLY THREE TIMES AS CHAIRMAN OF THE GUILFORD GOP. IF YOU WERE SO GREAT AND ALL KNOWING WHY DIDN"T YOU RUN AGAINST ME. I guess you know your limitations.

"You, like Tony Moschetti of High Point, cannot see the world without putting on partisan glasses."
TLC, I can't believe that you said that. It's not like you have never uttered a non-partisan statement on this blog, is it? I've come to believe that you are truly blind and dead to your own partisan biases. You are the classic pot calling all kettles black.

Regarding the State's retirement fund, we might have significant differences in how we view "handled well" and "in good shape."
The Iraq War isn't the only thing our children will be paying for.

Carol,
Great posts! Our State Constitution demands a balanced budget and that is one of the reasons we have such high credit ratings! When North Carolina's paper [bond(s)] is sold, it is always quickly bought up by banks, mutual funds, and corporations from coast to coast. Why? Because they know how fiscally responsible this state has been for years. While folks like Kindley and Moschetti try to compare apples and oranges, the truth usually rises above that kind of partisan "strawman". Nice try there Kindley.
Note to Marcus,
You won "overwhelmingly" because no one wanted to be chairman during the years when it didn't matter! I really hate to break it to you, but the "Rockefeller Republicans" in this County thought you were a cartoon character that should not be representing them--that's when the gig was up. You can paint the outhouse, but the stink's still in there. That's why they call this the OPINION page!

Liberal Conservative: Who ever cared what the Rockefeller Republicans thought. They have never worked for or supported the local party. All they do is talk ,no action.
As far as it mattering it always matters and as I remember the Rockefeller Republicans hated Ronald Reagan too, so I am in good Company.
And concerning our budget and bonds, as I am a Registered Municipal Principal by the S.E.C. and the MSRB (Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board) you again are wrong on our bonds.
We are to have a balanced buget yes, but we are borrowing to have it. This is causing doubt in the market of our strenght to repay. It seems that you need more information on what you are speaking about.. I've been dealing in NC Paper for oh around 30 years. For your information we do not have a balanced budget. You can't if you are borrowing from one to pay for the other. You know like that Social Security thingy!
