Obama's words, deeds go their separate ways
Barack Obama has garnered a lot of attention this election for his support from educated voters and the youth. Well, as a 22-year-old college graduate and law student, I fill both of these molds … and I am supporting Hillary Clinton.
I concede the point that Obama is an inspiring speaker. But underneath the roaring rhetoric and the whimsical words, who really is Barack Obama and what does he stand for? He says he's a new kind of politician. But these past weeks have revealed otherwise, with double speak on the Iraq war, NAFTA and even public financing.
I am cognizant that all politicians break promises now and then. But Obama has based his campaign on being different, yet he has consistently said one thing in public and done another once the lights and cameras are put away. He argues judgment over experience, especially on Iraq. When he ran for the Senate a mere four years ago, he promised to vote against Iraq war funding. He broke that promise to the tune of $300 billion. Judgment does matter. But it's difficult to judge one's candidacy when he continually changes his position on the issues. That is not change we can believe in.

"Name one politician that does not talk out of both sides of his mouth - or "consistently said one thing in public and done another once the lights and cameras are put away".

"..as a 22-year-old college graduate and law student, I fill both of these molds..".
Andrew has not yet learned that it doesn't matter who you vote for.
Arm yourself- it's later than you think.

"But underneath the roaring rhetoric and the whimsical words, who really is Barack Obama and what does he stand for?"
Hope and change of course.
Here is the video link reference to your post Neo.

It's worth the 4 minutes to watch it. This guy has been Obama's pastor for 20 years.
I loved Obama's recent response to the "Reverend" (I use the term loosely) Wright.
"Stressing that he had not been present when Mr Wright made the offending statements, Mr Obama said that he had become aware of them just over a year ago and had remained part of the church only because the pastor was retiring."
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article3555561.ece
A direct Obama quote:
"“None of these statements were ones I had heard myself personally in the pews,” Obama told FOX News.
Let's get this straight, this guy has been Obama's pastor for 20 years and Rev. Wright NEVER made an offensive statement while Obama attended????
That excuse is as bad as "I tried it but didn't inhale".

I'm glad Jesus taught this dude "not to sink to the level of bigotry and hatred" of rich white people. Imagine what his sermons would sound like had he not seen the light.
“None of these statements were ones I had heard myself personally in the pews,”
I guess it depends on the definition of "in", huh Dan? I mean, he wasn't exactly "in" the pews...he was seated "on" the pews.
I've learned, you can take nothing for granted when it comes to liberals...

neo,
I value freedom of speech, but your overt racism, which is beyond palpable, is offensive to me, and I am sure others. As one who has read more of your posts than I care to, I can say, without doubt, you are one bigoted, narrow minded person. Your comments on this thread are unnecessary but do show your total lack of understanding of anything other than your own life's experience. With your posts here being so corrosive, I can only imagine how you must throw the "N" word out in private. Mocking the way a certain race may speak, in your estimation, must be effective. Hate to break the news to you, but racism is ugly whether overt or covert.
_______________
Dan,
Since you are a Spartan graduate, I thought you would have a little more class in matters like this. Guess not.
I am glad I am in no way judged by the pastor at my "former" church! For a few years I was buffaloed by this fellow but found later that he was a charlatan. While we are all sinners, I find it curious how you have the time to research Obama's pastor but don't have the time to look at the issues. Of course, it might have something to do with the fact FoxNews just can't let it go.
In an effort to "SHOW" you how ridiculous your retorts have been in the past, I am going to play the "Danny Game". You know, the "looky! looky! He did it too! game that you play all the time.
Every GOP candidate visiting Bob Jones University---see anything remotely wrong there?
Maybe it was Okay for John McCain, three years ago to endorse a racist?
Washington, DC - Despite criticizing President Bush for campaigning at Bob Jones University in the 2000 Presidential campaign, Arizona Republican Senator and potential 2008 presidential candidate John McCain will begin his Thanksgiving recess today in Alabama endorsing a candidate who has addressed, and even praised, a prominent white supremacist organization.
McCain is throwing his weight behind Alabama Lt. Governor candidate George Wallace Jr., a man who has given four speeches to the racist Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), most recently in June 2005. [Southern Poverty Law Center, Intelligence Report, Summer 2005]
The CCC was created from the mailing list of the old White Citizens' Councils set up in the 1950s and 1960s to resist efforts to desegregate southern schools. The late former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall once referred to the CCC as the "uptown Klan." According to its website, the CCC's mission is to "oppose all efforts to mix the races." [http://www.cofcc.org/manifest.htm]
Okay, so you don't get it yet?
Falwell said America "deserved" the 9/11 attacks---but guess who kissed and made up with Falwell? John McCain.
Are you there yet, Danny?

Or let's just charge McCain as "Guilty by Association" with THIS GUY.... HIS FLORIDA CAMPAIGN CHAIR:

You have to stop being a Republican 'hack' first and an American second. Only then will you win the respect of intelligent people here, Dan.

"Boo Hoo Hoo"...pass the kleenex.
Looky, Looky!! Wascally Wepublicans went to Bob Jones U. This clears Hussein of any 'guilt by association' with his "mentor" and bigoted anti-America racist who shouts "GAWD DAMNNNN AMERICA" from the pulpit, I suppose, huh dear?
I'll never get to sleep tonight thinking I have offended you, madame. I axe you again: does your African-American boyfriend have one of those black ethnic names like "LaShanka or "Damarion", or is it one of the more traditional names?

BTW, LIBERAL CANADIANETTE, your constant sucking up to AJ by calling everyone and anyone who disagrees with your warped, fevered, and asinine views 'racists' seems to be working.
You can attack, attack, attack, without fear or worry of reprisal. Congrats.

"Dan,
Since you are a Spartan graduate,..."
Cut Demon Deacon a little slack Neo. He must be cantankerous after his WFU Demon Deacons lost in the play in round of the ACC tourney and my UNC Tarheels won the tourney and a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney. Meanwhile his Demon Deacons are headed back to campus to twiddle thumbs.
I was pulling for WFU to at least beat FSU so they could lose to the Heels. Oh well, FSU dispatched them in the play in round. So sorry.
Just looked at my diploma right above this very computer. Given at Chapel Hill, in the State of North Carolina, this thirtieth day of December in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and eighty five. Still glad I attended UNC-G for my first to years however.
"For a few years I was buffaloed by this fellow.."
That must have hurt really bad, I've never been buffaloed by anyone and don't plan on it. What does it feel like? Were you buffaloed for 20 years like Obama was? BTW, you mention "former" church. Rev. Wright is the pastor at Obama's "current" church. Nice try at weaseling but waaaay to short.
"Of course, it might have something to do with the fact FoxNews just can't let it go."
Too funny, this is a direct quote Obama gave Fox News. They simply printed his quote, but the same quote can be found elsewhere. Check out the UK Times link I provided.
Go on about McCain all you want Demon Deacon, I'm not a McCain fan either.
Weak, weak, weak (yet hilarious) arguments, you are capable of more. Try again.
Posted on March 16, 2008 10:13 PM
So if Hussein Obama has had the wool pulled over his eyes (buffaloed) for 20 years by the reverend Wright, we can trust him to handle Kim Jong Il and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without any problems, right?
This is the typical convoluted thinking we get from 'progressive minded' folks..."Don't look at his track record, just listen to his message of 'hope and change' ". ("change we can believe in", BTW)
Maybe we can have a new government program to supply free Canadian flag patches for those who dare face those buffaloing Brits and French while on vacation.

neo,
You no longer try to hide your disdain, you are such an ugly person on the inside that you resort to showing it on the outside. Your racist comments are unwelcome, and I would appreciate it, if you would keep your mouth shut and be "thought" a fool.
---------------
Dan,
Sorry to crash on your Spartan degree. You've tried every way in the book to separate yourself from your past, so we'll just give you credit for the courses you took elsewhere. : )
Do you see the type person you have crawled into bed with above?
Where does this---
"I axe you again: does your African-American boyfriend have one of those black ethnic names like "LaShanka or "Damarion", or is it one of the more traditional names?"
have to do with anything? Seems he has you under his spell, but then again, water seeks its level. Yes, you've sunk to the level of the company YOU keep. While you rant about Obama's associate, you cuddle up to the most obvious racist and homophobe on these threads.
It really is unfair to fight an unarmed man, therefore I will leave you with your white supremacist friend.

Neo says,
" I axe you again: does your African-American boyfriend have one of those black ethnic names like "LaShanka or "Damarion", or is it one of the more traditional names?"
Beam me up! No intelligent life here!

"therefore I will leave you with your white supremacist friend" = "therefore, since I have no valid defense to offer for Hussein's association with his bigoted, anti-America 'mentor', I'll tuck tail and run".

"Sorry to crash on your Spartan degree."
If I had a degree from UNC-G I would be proud of it as well. Is UNC-G an inferior school? That's what you infer.
"Do you see the type person you have crawled into bed with above?"
I only crawl in bed with my wife. If you have a problem with Neo direct it towards him not me.
Nice dodge and spin. Obama was a member of a church for 20 years who employs a racist, America hating (referred to the United States as the “U.S. of K.K.K. A.”) pastor as documented in many, many video clips. This story is being reported everywhere even in your beloved NY Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/us/politics/15wright.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
Of course Obama rejects Rev. Wright's statements and comes up with a lame excuse that he never heard these statements from the pew over a 20 year period. Yeah right.
This is the subject of debate in this blog. Your response is about where I went to college and calling Neo a racist and homophobe. Try to debate the issue instead of the usual insult dodge and spin routine for a change.
Posted on March 17, 2008 10:50 AM
"he never heard these statements from the pew over a 20 year period. "
That's because he only attends on the Muharram.
Posted on March 17, 2008 4:26 PM
"never heard these statements from the pew over a 20 year period".....you gotta be awake to hear dem sermons !
let's re ask it another way "obama have you heard that your pastor made these comments and if so how can you support that type of ministry?". as a regular church attender myself i believe i would hear from someone in my church if my pastor was making inflammatory comments. so obama can bob & weave all he likes and try to convince us that he is deaf and ignorant to his pastor of twenty years - that probably speaks to his character, huh ?!
