Democrats must stop feuding, stick together

A recent Gallup poll shows 28 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters say John McCain would make a better president than Barack Obama.

Nearly 20 percent of Barack Obama supporters say if their man isn't the nominee, they'll vote for McCain rather than Clinton.

An obvious conclusion to this idiotic reasoning is a "protest vote" against Obama or Clinton by voting for McCain.

If Democrats do this, the consequences will be disastrous: A vote for McCain will be a vote for four more years of dead American soldiers and live Islamic jihadis in Iraq; further weakening of our military; worse economic deterioration; more crippling foreign debt; fewer rights and less privacy; more tragic disintegration of our country's infrastructure; four more ruinous years of Supreme Court appointments like Roberts and Alito; and who knows how many years of war with Iran (recall McCain's 2007 "American Idol" moment, when he laughingly sang, "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" to a VFW gathering at Murrells Inlet, S.C.).

The citizens of North Carolina have already lost 94 soldiers (http://icasualties.org/oif/) and wasted more than $14 billion (www.nationalpriorities.org/) on Bush's war. If you believe we must change how we do business, please vote Democratic in November.

Lighten up Portia. Not much difference in Hillary, Hussein, or McCain. While the democrats are up front about their socialistic vision of what America should look like, McCain can be easily bought with a few columns in the NY times and will sign on their ideals.

Interesting perspective. He may be left of where many Republicans claim to be, but I would not have though being easly "bought" was one of McCain's weakness'

.. and for those whining about McCain being left of where many Republicans claim to be .. need I remind them he got there though a "simple up or down vote" process .. .. a process those many Republicans where whining for just a couple years ago.

My my, that's a very arrogant statement. Perhaps these people who support Hillary or Obama have more substantive reasons to not support the other candidate. Calling the reasoning of voters in her own party "idiotic" is yet another example of democrats eating democrats. Keep it up Democrats!!

The new Democratic playbook page on McCain is to claim voting for McCain is voting for Bush. The two are exactly the same as illustrated in this letter except McCain will also invade Iran.

What ever happened to the "maverick" McCain, the media darling who took on Republicans and didn't follow their agenda lockstep?

Keep up the good work Portia, I know your letter is meant to unite your fellow Democrats, but calling their reasoning idiotic is rather divisive.

That just shoots through the heart of Dan's high "morality" opinion of his GOP. Dang, neo! You two should have a little discussion before you go off in that direction.
What is, is.
The GOP could have had a Ron Paul, or a Mike Huckabee, but they chose the lip smacking, adulterous "Grandpa Munster" candidate.
It is not my place to tell either party who to choose, but I will say the Dems still have a choice and the GOP base has spoken--totally rejecting the "conservatives".

He spent the last 6 years ingratiating himself with the Bush administration.

You mean the GOP could have had a candidate who is just as much a sexist as Hillary Clinton? Sorry, nobody's racism or sexism is a good thing. I don't care which direction it goes either.

The problem with Senator McCain (as opposed to either of the contenders from the Democratic party) is that his "GOP credentials" might lead some to believe that if he were in the White House, there would be "balance" between the executive and the legislative branches. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If Senator Clinton or Senator Obama accede to 1600, (s)he and her/his socialist camarillas will be eyed with at least a modicum of trepidation by the more conservative elements of Congress and society as a whole.

You'll find this paradoxical, Portia, but I will almost certainly NOT vote for Senator McCain. It remains to be seen whether I could actually pull the lever for Senator Clinton or Senator Obama.

Do they have barf bags at-the-ready at polling stations these days?

Hi, Dan,

Yeah, we have a remarkably "quick" internet connection "over the bar." Must say that the Styx does have a really nice cruise ship, but the captain is a bit surly.

But I have to warn ya of one little item I was surprised to learn: Ya know the old saw about nothing being certain 'cept death and taxes? An' how folks always refer to the "death tax"? Well, the liberals are in charge over here too and the taxes DO NOT END when one shuffles off the mortal coil!

Hey! If ya see DD(TLC), tell him to come on down! He'll fit right in!

Your pal,

Johnny L.
