Give stimulus checks to people who need them

Now that we have our economic stimulus payment notices (sent at great cost), you may be marveling, as I am, at the unfairness of giving money to people who have it and not to people who don't: people who earn less than $3,000, people who are disabled.

Maybe like certain friends of mine, your distaste for the Economic Stimulus Act takes the form of deciding to give that money that comes to you unearned and unasked for to someone you know who can really use it: a man on SSI who gets $10 in food stamps a month, a shy woman who house sits for a living.

If you don't know any people like that, you might consider passing your tidy bundle on to one of many charitable institutions in Greensboro that goes: the Beloved Community Center, Faith Action International House, etc.

Just a thought.

Spoken like a true lazy socialist, Mary. You do your people - and your country - an injustice.

No sacrasm.

How about we all send our checks back to the government and tell them to pay down the debt and stop wasting money in Iraq.

Truly amazing.

"the unfairness of giving money to people who have it and not to people who don't..."

UNFAIRNESS??? Where the hell did that money come from in the first place Ms. Wakeman? Hint, hint, it didn't come from the people who "don't".

Yet another example of our gimme, gimme, gimme govt. dependent entitlement society. How did we get so far so fast?

BTW I think this rebate is a bad idea. Borrow more money from the Chinese so we can buy more products from the Chinese.

Unfairness. I love it.

Perhaps school bond supporters will consider writing their "tidy bundle" over to the county.

rahrah,
Your points are lost upon most of the posters above. Good points all the same.

This letter is so appalling, I don't even know where to begin.

This is the kind of attitude we can expect more of if we elect King Hussein into office. Take from those that earn and give to those that don't.

What I am marvelling at, Mary, is how those that pay the most taxes in this country get no rebate while those that pay the least taxes get a rebate.

A shy woman who house sits for a living? Give me a break. She probably gets paid in cash, which means she probably pays no taxes, but yet she should get a tax rebate. This entltlement attitude sickens me. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I was going to give mine to the shy girl, but she's so shy, I don't even know who she is.

Looks like a new titanium driver for me!

Yes, the tax rebate is a bad idea. Yes, this is a hysterically funny letter.

My God, where do these people come from? The government (The Taxpayers) is not GIVING anything to us. For those of us left who actually pay taxes, the government is simply returning some of our money that was extorted from us and GIVEN to foreign countries, unwed mothers with 6 children, illegal immigrants, etc.

Of course, the rich among us (those earning $75,00) can't have any of our money back. Mary you need to move to Cuba where everyone needs it, but don't get it. Sounds like another "white guilt" vote for Obama

Have my travel plans all made for the windfall from my economic stimulus check.

Gonna hop into my car and drive straight to the U. S. Post Office to mail the June installment of my 2008 Estimated Income Taxes. 'Course, the stimulus check won't cover both Federal and State, but it might cover one of them.

I'm SO excited to be a front line soldier in the fight to stimulate the economy!

Listen, Mary. I don't know what kind of crack you've been smoking but it must be real good if you think I'm gonna start complaining when the government decides to give ME some of my money back for a change instead of rewarding people who sit at home and collect a check.

$10 in food stamps? I ain't never met a soul who got just $10 in food stamps.

"A shy woman who house-sits"? Is that what they call sitting around the house doing nothing these days? In my day, it was called a no-count. Trust me, I was married to one long enough to know what one is.

Mark [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Right there with you JackArmstrong. I'll be using mine to pay my 2007 tax bill. Economic recovery here we come!

Illiterati [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I'll be carpooling to the Post Office with JackArmstrong and Mark, returning the guvmint's money to pay part of my 2007 tax bill. Too bad there wasn't an option on the 1040 form like, "apply my stimulus payment to my 2007 tax due."

The last time the govt sent us a "rebate," didn't we have to claim our "refund" on the next year's tax return? Or am I imagining that? I seem to recall paying taxes on my free money.

Go for it

Mines going to Raleigh. I do not even have it yet.
Brian, try out a Corbra, I love mine. Sounds funny when you hit it. Ball flies. A lot of my Buddies like the new Taylor made.

Earnestine, near the end of the month, for 10 bucks, one can purchase $30, $40, even $50 worth of food stamps.

Could this be what Ms. Wakeman had in mind?

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Careful neocon, or TLC will ask how you know that (and automatically assume it's because you're the guy buying them).

neocon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

rahrah, THE LIBERAL CANADIANETTE doesn't have to ask me. I'll tell her. I've been approached and offered such deals. I've also been approached and offered rib eye steaks at a tremendous discount from the back of a Ford van. Still had the cellophane wrapper on them and the store logo...purchased with gubbermint coupons and sold for hard cash. The peddler was unabashedly honest about his business.

Just another one of those 'unintended consequences' that happen to pop up now and then when the government gets involved in social engineering.

rahrah,
You are dead on, sport!

neocon offers advice:
"Earnestine, near the end of the month, for 10 bucks, one can purchase $30, $40, even $50 worth of food stamps."

For a guy who 'claims' he is against government completely, he sure knows all the scams. Coincidence? You be the judge.

Hehehehe!!

This guy probably stumps his toe and blames it on the Democrats!

What a freaking cartoon character Tonymo is, but has no idea. He's obviously threatened by Obama as he can't post without mentioning the name. Of course, this blog's probably all he has now---the like minded have tucked tail and run away. With neo and Dan, he still has TWO folks he can slap high fives with! LOL!

Thanks, Dog. I'm thinking about a square driver--maybe the Nike. They sound funny, too, but I like the ball flight.

Unless, that is, the world's shyest housesitter identifies herself.
