Obama gets hammered while McCain gets a pass
I've been closely following the controversy surrounding Sen. Barack Obama and his former minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. I find it interesting that there has been little mention of Sen. John McCain and his religious affiliations.
On Oct. 5, 2007, on Bill Moyers' PBS program, I saw a segment of Sen. McCain appearing with the Rev. John Hagee. I was concerned by this appearance because Hagee promotes attacking Iran to keep Iran from invading Israel. Hagee also indicated, after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, that it was because of the people's sinfulness.
In 2006, Sen. McCain campaigned at Liberty University and sought the endorsement of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell. When Sept. 11, 2001, occurred, it was Falwell who said it happened to us because of the way we lived.
I believe it is unfair to hammer one candidate to death on his religious associations while we never hear anything about the other.

Rev. (I use the term loosely) Hagee is definitely a hate monger, I'll even take Bill Moyers word on that, and McCain should have nothing to do with him.
There is one significant reason for the disparity in press coverage Ms. Kane, McCain sought Hagee's endorsement for political expediency, Rev. (I use the term loosely) Wright has been Obama's pastor, spiritual advisor, and friend for 20 years.

Are you insane, woman. The NT Times runs a 3000 word, unsourced, unsubstantiated, FRONT PAGE hit piece on McCain then buries the story about Obama's 20+ year relationship with a racist, anti-Semitic, anti-America, hate monger, in the middle of the paper.
If one listens to Mrs. Obama on the campaign trail we no longer need wonder why she was never proud of her country until now, or why she has been advising college students not to go into the corporate world. Right from the mouth of "Crazy Jerry!"
You fools who apparently got your talking points right from the left-wing websites are the pinnacle of hypocrisy. McCain, who I despise, did not not have a 20 year, ongoing relationship with either Hagee or Falwell. Did either of those gentlemen say God damn America, or that we are the KKK of America, or give an award to Louis Farrakhan, or post Hamas propoganda on their websites, or talk about the "garlic" nosed italians who hate Christ. You people are even more deranged than I thought, which is quite a feat.
Obama really expects us to believe that he never heard any of the vile sermons even though the church sells DVDs of them. But then he, for some reason (I wonder what) disinvites "Crazy Jerry" from being a part of his announcement ceremony for his run for the presidency. Isn't that strange! You might also want to take a look at the tenants of "Black Liberation Theology" preached by "Crazy Jerry" at his "hate whitey" center. Obama is nothing more than a black version of John Edwards who has twice been soundly rejected by his own party in his laughable run for the (vice)presidency. I guess Geraldine Ferraro was right about why Obama has been more successful!

Good points, Yvonne. Are you our Yvonne by any chance?
So, Dan, it's OK to sell your soul for "political expediency" but not OK to stand by someone who has had an important role in your life, even though they are far from perfect. I am thankful that my friends and family stand by me through thick and thin.
For those who crucify Michelle Obama, I ask you are you proud of what our country has done for the last 7 years, are you proud of slavery, our treatment of the Native Americans, our treatment of the Japanese during WWII, our treatment of the Irish immigrants in past centuries, the Salem witch trials? I love America but I love it in spite of all the flaws and mistakes and intentional mistreatment of others. Since I have never been a Black American, I cannot possibly empathize with their anger and fears. I can empathize with the anger and fears which White Americans have over some issues. This is a fact which Obama addressed. It is sad, but it is a fact of life and the human condition.

No, Carol, we are not one and the same.
You have made some good points, yourself, Carol. At least you recognize that having a friend with radically different views and standing by that friend despite their views, is not tantamount to condoning those views but is loving someone in spite of differences. This is what I call knowing the love-lip service divide. Only a true friend/spouse/relative would give love rather than lip service.
In this instance, Obama has been a man of his word. It would have been politically expedient for him to denounce and condemn Rev. Wright. He, however, chose the high road. Says a lot about his character.

Yvonne Kane,
In answer to your question:
A. Obama's currently running against a Clinton. McCain is not.
B. Obama's news was fresh while the McCain news is not.
Wait until the general election and you'll be happily satisfied with plenty of dirt on each. Whoever gets the most shit to stick wins.

Tony Mostshetti never disappoints. Being a partisan hack and nothing more, has turned him into a cartoon character of the editorial pages. Not once has he offered anything remotely different from:
REPUBLICAN = GOOD
DEMOCRAT = EVIL
Maybe next time, Tonymo can just click the "post" button and enter a period or a comma, then sign off. We'd all know what to fill in, as it's ALWAYS the same old crap, just a different day.
