Results of the 'penny poll’
Over the course of three hours April 15, a “penny poll” was taken at a local Greensboro post office. The poll featured five jars with the categories “Human Resources,” “Physical Resources,” “Military,” “General Government” and “Interest on the National Debt.” Poll participants were given 10 pennies, representing their tax dollar, to distribute among the five jars. Below are the results out of 51 people polled:
* Human Resources: 29.4 percent
* Military: 21.2 percent
* Interest on the National Debt: 18.4 percent
* Physical Resources: 17.8 percent
* General Government: 13.1 percent
Of particular interest is how Human Resources outweighed all other categories. The United States puts almost twice as much money into the military as human resources currently. Our military spending is equal to the military spending of the next 15 countries combined. (See www.warresisters.org for more info.)

The reason we can spend so much on Human Resources is because we spend so much on our military.
By the way, I thought you lived in Portland.....

"Actual" allocation of tax dollars as seen in the 2008 President's Budget:
Human Resources:
Social Security - $608 Billion
Medicare $386 Billion
Medicaid and SCHIP - $209 Billion
Unemployment & Welfare - $324 Billion
Total - $1,527 Trillion
Interest on Debt - $261 Billion
Department of Defense - $481 Billion
The U.S. spends significantly money on Human Resources than military or interest on national debt.

Oak,
You might want to re-check your numbers. Trying to help you here. Don't want the embarrassment to sting too badly for you.
Hint: Your defense budget number. Try that one.

Gave you plenty of time, but as usual, you just run your mouth...and then run away!

File Oak's logic under "If they say it enough, the people will believe it" file.
We now have someone who gives Dan a run for the money on being "inch deep and a mile wide".

LC,
Quit using all of those left wing blogs to attempt to prove a point. The United States federal budget for fiscal year 2008 reflected $481.4 Billion for the Department of Defense. If you want to include the $145.2 Billion, then the total is $626.6 Billion, still far less than the $1,526 Trillion for "Human Resources".
You need to learn to read. My statement was for the budget of the Department of Defense, and it is $481.4. Even your left wing blog doesn't show our military spending more than our "Human Resources". How long did you have to look for it?
Frankly, my dear, you are a foot wide and a foot deep, something like a square box. Is it possible for you to ever discuss something on this blog in an intelligent and constructive manner, rather than try to win by insult? Honestly, I don't think that is possible for you.

I would have kept all ten of my pennies.

The "Stockholm International Peace Research Institute'.
Sounds like a refuge camp for US draft dodgers where the uniform is Birkenstock Sandals and a double strand of love beads.

Oak,
You are nothing but a partisan, spouting figures and no back up. THE WAR IS OFF BUDGET! It really is that simple. Your numbers are as bogus as a three dollar bill---and you still don't get it.
Why don't YOU do a little reading sometime rather than hooking up to your I.V. of right wing propaganda??? Be an American and quit being such a partisan. Quit ignoring the facts, just to placate your own 'dug in' position.
I used to think you were some ignorant redneck, who would continue to move further out in the county--in search of "whiter" schools and less taxes. Thank you for taking any guesswork out of the equation.
