The perfect candidate?

I read with interest recently where Sen. Hillary Clinton admitted to misspeaking for the first time in 12 years. Really? Only once in 12 years? I find, as a normal human being, that I misspeak fairly regularly.

I am ecstatic to know she is so near perfection.

I was watching a repeat of late night news on WRAL just a few minutes ago. They were talking about this topic. Seems Hillary is not the only one in this campaign who is misspeaking. The newscasters gave instances of Obama and McCain making serious boo boos.

You know what they say about stones and glass houses, Tony.

James D. Rockefeller [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Maybe Tony can come up with examples where our Commander in Chief admitted doing anything stupid ... but if I heard the story correct, her claim of didging bullets in Bosnia was way over the top.

"Misspeaking"?
I always called it "lying". Ms. Rambo was called on this one by a media that is more interested in seeing the first black president than in seeing the first woman president.

Hey Neoblind,

seems your president has lied to the american people something like 900 times. I knopw that you don't have any comment on that

You're right mikey, Bush lies...Ms. Rambo 'misspeaks'. Hussein Obama is 'misquoted'. Uncle Jeremiah is 'taken out of context'. uncle ted was 'confused and dazed' by his repeated attempts to save Mary Jo Kopechne etc, etc, etc.

100% right on neocon. Its all in who says it.

Neo you left out Bill. He single handedly (well there really wasn't a hand involved, more like some lips) redefined the definition of the word sex, thus liberating the schilllrun.

Howie G [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Tony, if you're impressed by 12 years without a "mis-speak", let me introduce you to our neighbor neocon. He recently told me that the last mistake he made was over 40 years ago -- during the LBJ era. Twelve years is nothing compared to 40. I even suggested that an unprecedented string like that would make him either a) Jesus Christ, or b) full of crap. But he never replied. What humility. I think he was embarassed by the praise.

Buz [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

let's give hillary credit for keeping her lie afloat since 1996 - one can easily see that she is eminently qualified to govern this here united states. she lied for political gain - apparently she convinced herself that we (constituents) would somehow see her as qualified as an example of her foreign policy experience if she were able to dodge sniper fire. hillary told the truth in her book 'living history"...."Due to reports of snipers in the hills around the airstrip, we were forced to cut short an event on the tarmac with local children, though we did have time to meet them and their teachers and to learn how hard they had worked during the war to continue classes in any safe spot they could find,"..... but i guess she needed to jazz (i.e. lie) that story up a bit to make her seem more electable. she does what politicians do .... they lie and hope they don't get caught. :-(

Mick [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

All politics and above personal attacks on each other aside...

In order for me to believe she "misspoke" she would have to tell me when it was she and her daughter were sitting on flak jackets, during a cork screw landing and dodged sniper bullets on the tarmac that she mixed Bosnia up with. If you cant somehow show me she mixed up or mixed together some incidents then I would have to call it lying. I never been shot at but it seems something one wouldnt forget.

Everyone here who implied that others lied as well please answer this question. Do you believe Senator Clinton was lying? Yes or No? Why? Why Not?

My opinion: She made it up... period.

Howie G [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

And while we're at it, do you believe George Bush is a "gentleman farmer" from Texas?

ghost from white oak [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

The word "Misspoke" is only applied when you are CAUGHT telling a lie. It's the universal political catch word of the day. It does not apply for an undetected lie.

R. Bennet [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Buz,

Thanks for the bit from her book.

"landed under sniper fire" vs "reports of snipers"
That's a great line she wrote, and, to reference a recent N&R piece, similar to the difference between crying over the ditch in your front yard where your house used to be and merely being under a tornado watch.

Not something most people repeatedly confuse...

Mike,
You are so right. I will say that neo has calmed down a bit---maybe Dan complained about him too! Nope, that wouldn't happen as Dan parrots most of what neo says anyway:

Dan said:
"Neo you left out Bill. He single handedly (well there really wasn't a hand involved, more like some lips) redefined the definition of the word sex, thus liberating the schilllrun."

And wonder what Danny means by the word, "schillrun"??? Oh that's right, Dan says he's not a racist, but his brother was passed over for a job......

And talk about spin and making things up...Dan spins a UNCG degree into being a UNC-Chapel Hill Tarheel---probably got that under sniper fire!! LOL!

We have all heard the old hyperbole, "The greatest thing since sliced bread." Have you ever wondered what sliced bread was the greatest thing since ... as in, "Sliced bread is the greatest thing since ... " what? It's interesting to ponder what came before the current greatest thing.

Likewise, Senator Clinton has acknowledged that she recently "misspoke" (her euphemism for what is normally called a "bald-faced lie"). Her exact quotation is, "Last week for the first time in 12 years or so, I misspoke.

To use a fairly precise point of reference like that ... 12 years prior ... indicates that she must clearly recall the "misspeak" that she uttered at that time. Hmmm. That would have been around the time of the Rose Law Firm billing record kerfuffle. Is that the issue about which she last "misspoke," or was it some other issue?

In the interest of clarity, the Senator should be forthcoming about the previous "misspeak" ... or BFL ... don't you think?

Now we hear from Bill Clinton speaking in Ohio today that Hillary, a young McGovernite straight out of Yale Law, went down to the Army Recruiting Station and tried to enlist in 1975. Actually, Hillary had told this story once before, and it was the Marines (that sounds much tougher).

Bill Clinton - "I remember when we were young, right out of law school, she went down and tried to join the Army and they said ‘Your eyes are so bad, nobody will take you,’” he said, after heralding her record on issues of concern to the military, such as body armor and access to health care.

Now, this story is about as believable as the Bosnian Sniper Story, but I suppose there is no media video to dispute her valiant story of patriotism

In December 2007 from the Huffington Post (not a conservative rag by any stretch) - "It's a story she seldom tells, not even in her autobiography. But Clinton, who opposed the Vietnam War, says she once tried to join the Marines shortly after the conflict ended. She recounted the failed enlistment one time when she was first lady, in a speech to female veterans in June 1994. She said she went to an Arkansas military recruitment office shortly before she married Bill Clinton in fall 1975. Once the Marine recruiter saw the bespectacled law professor, she told the group, he rejected her by saying, "You're too old, you can't see and you're a woman."

"December 2, 1993 - Leading conservative operative William Kristol privately circulates a strategy document to Republicans in Congress. Kristol writes that congressional Republicans should work to "kill" -- not amend -- the Clinton plan because it presents a real danger to the Republican future: Its passage will give the Democrats a lock on the crucial middle-class vote and revive the reputation of the [Democratic] party ... The timing of the memo dovetails with a growing private consensus among Republicans that all-out opposition to the Clinton plan is in their best political interest."

Oh, and this question coming from cheerleader-in-chief for our first 'non English speaking' President....George W. Bush!

Bush continues to talk about 'nucular' power after this many years----he is intransigent as his followers.

neo, other than the fact Bush is a Republican, what is it that attracts you to his incompetence? Other than pointing to a Democrat and saying like your parrot Dan, "looky, looky they did it too" which one of Bush's screw ups has mesmerized you?
For Dan, it's all because he's got an 'R' beside his name, but surely you have something deeper to point to?? Especially since you've been carrying water for him for years.
I know that you and Bush have about the same level of language skills, but is there anything else?
Here's a good list for you, in case your memory is as bad as your reasoning ability:

1. Said we'd hunt Bin Ladin down.
2. Attacked "Wrong" country.
3. Gave multiple bullsh_t reasons for #2
4. Heckuva Job Brownie
5. Mission Accomplished
6. Insurgents in their "last throes"
7. "If someone in my adminstration leaked information, they will be fired"
8. Fill in the blank:_______________

Please, oh brilliant neocon, show us your wisdom!! : )

Tony,
Misspeaking seems, to some, to be a new thing. Ronald Reagan is the high priest and potentate of "misspeaking".

He had a stump speech about a "welfare queen" that was a total fabrication. It served its purpose, as it got the right wing, nutjobs all into a lather. He talked and talked about balancing the budget---I mean he talked and talked about it, both before and AFTER he was elected. What historians know, but the lemmings who STILL think the fellow was some form of messiah, have no clue that he NEVER PROPOSED A BALANCED BUDGET!
Oh, they'll tell you he was a "great conservative" but in actuality he was neither. He was a two bit actor who could mesmerize folks with his silver tongue and his fabricated stories. There is one organization, still operating at full throttle, whose raison d'etre is to have things named after Ronald Reagan!

So, I have to laugh at the shallow depth of Dan when he cannot string together a noun and a verb without villifying Obama for having the gift of communicating, or Hillary for embellishing the truth. He has no idea that we once had the combination of both those qualities in a President called Ronald Wilson Reagan.

And as Paul Harvey would say, "That folks, is the rest of the story"!

: )

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Last night after eating supper (half of which was still on my shirt front due to the missing teeth) I spread a tarp over my trailer to try and stop some of the rainwater from flooding my living room. (Can't have the satelite reciever getting wet). Later, I visited the UNCG website to do some research in advance of signing on for some social engineering courses. Looking forward to becoming a proud Spartan.

How ya like them apples, Dan?
