Wright’s new mansion shows he isn’t hurting

I respectfully disagree with the letter, “Wright expresses years of pent-up frustrations” (April 17).
We had the means to win the war with Japan by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Just imagine where we would be today if we had not used our resources.

I visited Nagasaki during the Korean War. How do you fight a war today without knowing where the “front lines” are? You use whatever resources you have.

As for the impoverished underclass, the civil rights movement brought about the EEOC, which will help “those who want to help themselves.”

It appears that Rev. Jeremiah Wright has prospered very well with his frustrations by moving into a 10,000-square-foot mansion close to a golf course. Equal rights are in place.
Education is available for all classes when those who want to lie around on welfare will get up and go for it. It’s free!

As for Dr. Wright’s “damning” of America, you can’t put a spin on that because he meant what he said. His inflammatory rhetoric was not centuries of reprehensible abuse.
It’s just his way of stirring the volcano the writer referred to in this political season.

Your letter is a day late--Wright is now in the dust bin. He is now but a orgasmic memory of the right wing nutz!

You really think Obama just had an epiphany and now does not believe what Wright believes? How convenient for him to suddenly understand his pastor after twenty years, just when it is politically expedient to look less extreme.

Cynical? Yes, experience has made me so.

One thing I AM sure of---YOU were never going to vote for him and you still are not going to vote for him. So what difference does it make?

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I truly believe that Obama is a good man. I do not think he has a black agenda. I admire him for not immediately disowning a person who was his pastor for many years. I think that Wright has greatly harmed Obama. I wonder what Wright's agenda is. I will probably vote for Clinton in the primary because I think she has a better chance of beating McCain.

Carol Dunn,
I understand your feelings, but I soured on Clinton when she began her "slash and burn" strategy that looked more like, "If I can't win, I'm gonna make sure Obama can't win".

She's a smart, savvy politician---in fact, she is a "Professional" politician. I am also swayed by the fact I detest that those who think we should continue electing people from "political families". We've had two Bush's and one Clinton. Enough is enough. There is no royal family in our country and it is unfortunate that some wish there to be one.

I am excited that America has a formidable candidate of color, who is not only smart, but brings a rich tradition with him. I've read so many right wing 'disses' on African Americans--always pointing to Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, etc. I think Barack Obama is a great role model for his race and a great symbol of what our country is all about.
That's my two cents worth.

P.S.
John McCain is dead on arrival (pardon the pun). When he speaks about being in Iraq for 100 years or when he gives undying support for Bush, he becomes a walking target for ridicule. He is tired, old, and carries the baggage of decades of votes in the Senate. He is about the last thing this country needs.

LC,

You are never going to admit it, but Wright has badly hurt Obama where it really hurts. There are many blue collar white workers (those lunch bucket, gun-toting, church-going, six pack Joe's that people like you like mock and make fun of) who were considering Obama, because they liked him. They have started seeing who Barack Obama really is recently. He is not Wright, but we are starting to see who Obama is through the words of his associates. And the people that he has associated himself with are not hopeful and positive people on America. Not too long ago, Obama said that Wright was his spiritual leader. He named his book, Audacity of Hope, after one of Wright's sermons. (Who's hope is he speaking of?) His wife says she is just now proud of her country, and that America is a mean country.

I suspect that Obama is a good person, LC, but just like you, he is an elitist.

No, Obama has been wounded, perhaps fatally in the voting sector that would make the difference in the election. The Democrats have him as their candidate, and now they will have to hold their collective breaths and hope nothing more damaging comes out in the next six months.

Sorry, LC, as much as you would like for Wright to be history, as he has said, he is coming after Obama, and with a vengeance of those scorned. This isn't going away, because Wright doesn't want to go away. You see, as far as Wright is concerned, it's about him and his agenda, not Obama.

The EEOC. The EEOC does not level the playing field when it comes to fair employment. The agency’s role is to investigate complaints. And there is a question about its efficacy.

Wright’s 10,000 sq. ft. house. Wright was the pastor for 30 years. He grew the church from 87 members to 8,000 members. He also established several outreach programs. Whether you agree or disagree with his statements, he served his church. You should see the Cardinal's residence in Chicago.

“Education is available for all classes…” It has been established that a 12th grade education in an urban setting is equivalent to an 8th grade education in the suburbs.

Carole, with all due respect, what’s a “black agenda?”

Carol Dunn [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

It appears that Wright has an agenda which promotes hatred for whites and promotion of blacks at all costs...that is what I call his black agenda. I don't see that in Obama.

Reverend Wright has literally discovered- to his astonishment- that he's no longer "preaching to the choir".

He is well-read, but he's been reading the wrong stuff.
He is articulate, but says the wrong things.
He is brilliant, but unenlightened.
He is worldly, but xenophobic.
He is bold, but paranoid.
He is a decorated veteran who neither understands nor appreciates the nation he served so well.

It's sad. For Rev. Wright and for Barack Obama.

Congratulations Carol, you get it.

"Your letter is a day late--Wright is now in the dust bin."

As much as Obama and his supporters wish this were true, it isn't. Wright has a large ego, now he has a national stage. Combine the two and watch the fun.

Reread the last paragraph of Oak's 8:58 post.

Obama dissed Wright yesterday but that isn't going to make Wright go away. In fact it may have the reverse effect, Wright may come on even stronger after being dissed, remember the ego.

This is way too much fun. Thank you Rev. Wright!!

PELOSI, DEAN, REID, KENNEDY AND KERRY HAVE DESTROYED THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. WE HAVE 50 STATES — NOT 48. I REALIZE PELOSI WANTS TO BE THE FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT BUT SHE SHOULD NOT DESTROY THE PARTY IN THE PROCESS!

OBAMA DIDN’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WRIGHT UNTIL HIS POLL NUMBERS DROPPED! Obama has had plenty of opportunities, during this race, AND during the past 20 years, to do what he did on April 29, but Rev. Wright had never put Obama down before. That made him willing to turn against the pastor, who — a few weeks ago Obama said that he could never turn from. Obama will say anything to get what he wants.

Because he has now disrespected Obama, Obama is now willing to confront Wright’s horrible remarks — one by one. HE SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS AT LEAST A YEAR AGO! TOO LITTLE — TOO LATE.

Obama listened to and approved of Wright for 20 years. It’s impossible to believe that he never heard Wright’s radical rants. Obama is not that stupid. This is the very philosophy of the church that he has attended for years. If he has that much “blindness” on something as important as foundational philosophical beliefs of his own church, why would he think he could deal with crafty foreign leaders and run our country?

If you listen to Michelle Obama, it certainly sounds like she has heard and believed the teachings against America, that have been preached by her pastor. Don’t forget Obama’s ties to Ayers, Rezko, Farrakhan, Malcolm X, the Black Panthers, and many other anti-Americans and terrorists.

May God help us to have the grace and love to do what s right for our country — no matter what our skin color. Race is a factor — we are all members of the Human Race!

Hopefully, by November it will be Hillary or McCain!

I am not condoning his anti-Semitic remarks or his government induced AIDS theory, but, Wright is simply trying to instill some pride in his African American church members. He’s telling them that they are just as intelligent and deserving of others.

And please don’t evade my next question. What exact statement or statements has Wright made that espouses an hatred of whites and a promotion of blacks?

Conumdrum,

From the Trinity United Church of Christ's website:

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

1. A congregation committed to ADORATION.
2. A congregation preaching SALVATION.
3. A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
4. A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
5. A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
6. A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
7. A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
8. A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
9. A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
10. A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

Click here to read about Dr. Wright’s talking points for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System.

The church's own website says the pastor and the congregation (which includes Barack and Michell Obama) are committed to the Black Value System.

Black liberation theology is heart and soul of this church. Here is a link that defines it:
http://www.wfu.edu/~matthetl/perspectives/twentyseven.html

"James Hal Cone is an African-American Christian theologian best known for his advocacy of Black theology, which is related to Liberation theology and the Black Power movement. He is currently the Charles Augustus Briggs Distinguished Professor of Systematic Theology at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York. Jeremiah Wright has cited Cone as an influence on his thinking."

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_theology

Conundrim and Carol Dunn, does this answer your questions? Carol, you may not see this in Obama, but he has gone to a church that has espoused this philosophy for 20 years, and by the church's own words, he is committed to its principles.

Wright's a cartoon character, a selfish cartoon character. He got a chance to be news so he went he brought it. Balls out, he brought it.

When the Wright story first surfaced, Obama tried to explain the man who was preaching from his pulpit (pretty good sermons a lot of the time). Now's he prancing around wagging his peacock feathers on PBS and in front of the National Press Review. He pissed Obama off. You could see it B's face and hear it in his voice. He was genuinely pissed and used about every word he could to separate his views from Wright's and recognize how dumb Wright's views are.

The story's not over (especially on Fox News) because Wright will keep parading himself as long as anybody will listen. But I think it has been made clear that Obama's finished with the guy.

Gee I wonder why NPR on their 1:00 broadcast interviewed a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She was less than pleased with Rev. Wright's actions of late.

I wonder why NPR's lead on All Things Considered at 4:00 featured the Wright story. It ain't just Fox News.

"He pissed Obama off. You could see it B's face and hear it in his voice."

We agree rahrah, but ego and a national stage make a powerful combination as I mentioned. Obama was less than his eloquent self during that speech yesterday.

Perhaps this is a conspiracy theory, who knows, but I've heard ideas that Wright is intentionally torpedoing Obama, reason being Wright's made quite a good living off of race pimping and a black person as president would be bad for business. Personally I have no idea, I don't know what's in the mans heart and mind. But is sure is entertaining.

As usual, Oak Ridge and "little Danny" offer up the usual disingenuous comments.

Disingenous?

Yes, because not matter what Obama said, or who he hung out with, these two close minded individuals would NEVER vote for him. Reverend Wright gives them cover in which to hide, but the real reason is quite evident.
Little Dan is a full time "waterboy for the GOP" and weighs in on things he has absolutely no clue about, as if he had any some real, deep, personal concern.
He's very much like his Fox News heroes---they were talking about the "Lincoln-Douglas" debates and had a graphic showing a picture of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas!! Not Stephen Douglas, but FREDERICK DOUGLAS!! That's the mentality we are dealing with here folks.
As for Oak Ridge, he has yet to show an ounce of thought past the usual drivel. He's angry at anything that threatens his narrow world view. He weighs in, then runs....Same old, same old!

While “The church's own website says the pastor and the congregation .. are committed to the Black Value System” … they define their mission HERE: ..

… which says different things – defines things differently - than the link you posted .. which is a very old ("All photos and this Web Page layout are ©1995") and totally unrelated opinion from some college professor http://www.wfu.edu/~matthetl/index.html

You also use interchangeable “Black Value System” and “Black liberation theology” …and link to a page that starts with "The neutrality and factual accuracy of this article are disputed.”

… but all an honest mistake, I’m sure.

Just proved your statement about Wright being in the dust bin incorrect as the folks from NPR aren't right wing nutz, so it's time to switch gear with some new insults eh? That's Canadian, I'll be there in 3 weeks so I'm practicing.

One thing more fun (and easier) than Hillary/Obama is proving Demon Deacon incorrect.

Ahhhh, pray tell Demon Deacon, the REAL reason? Do offereth thy real reason. Care to play the race card? You won't be the first or the last.

I wish McCain would pick Micheal Steele for his VP. If I had been a resident of MD I would have voted for him in his Senate campaign. Oooopps, just busted your theory. Sorry 'bout that.

I won't vote for Obama for one reason, I don't agree with his policies. Ditto for Hillary and I'm not too keen on McCain's policies. Maybe I won't vote for McCain either. Ooops, that's not being a waterboy for the GOP eh?

************************************************

"It makes me sad to see folks enjoying and finding entertainment in the mistakes and foolishness of others."

Remember the words of Rev. Wright Carol, "Americas chickens have come home to roost".

If you are going to listen to such a nutcase for 20 years as your pastor and then run for president then your chickens will come to roost as well.

You have to admit, Rev. Wright is purposefully providing entertainment.

#1: "Your letter is a day late--Wright is now in the dust bin. He is now but a orgasmic memory of the right wing nutz!"

Disproved. The Wright story was on NPR twice yesterday, perhaps more but I only listened twice. The Wright story is on the front page of today's N&R.
Just looked at the NY Times, LA Times, CNN sites, Wright is on every one. In fact CNN has it listed under Hot Topics. I could do more news sites but you get the point.

#2 "Yes, because not matter what Obama said, or who he hung out with, these two close minded individuals would NEVER vote for him. Reverend Wright gives them cover in which to hide, but the real reason is quite evident."

Disproved. You are correct that I would never vote for Obama, but incorrect in citing his being black as the reason. I don't agree with his policies. Again, I wish Micheal Steele would be McCain's running mate. Had I lived in MD I would have voted for him for Senate. BTW, unlike you, I understand the concept that I have to vote for senators in the state where I live.

That was a classic.

#3 Little Dan is a full time "waterboy for the GOP"

Disproved yet again. Whenever I get a GOP solicitation for money I send it back with $0 and a note: You will never see a dime from me until the Republican party changes it's policies on excessive spending and illegal immigration. I don't care for McCain and may not vote for anyone in Nov.

This is too easy. Sweet dreams!!

THE LIBERAL CONSERVATIVE [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Little Danny, do you have a mental block?

Sorry little fellow, but you'll just have to accept it as it falls. But don't worry, the GOP will resurrect Reverend Wright as a "Willie Horton" type ad---so you'll be able to acheive your orgasmic heights again. As for now, you'll have to live on re-runs. LOL!

Don't fret, Uncle Jeremiah will resurface. He's like you, ego knows no bounds eh?
