Give state justice system tools to reduce crime
It is time to demand zero-tolerance for juvenile violence and crime and hold elected officials accountable for providing resources to accomplish this. We are tying the hands of our law-enforcement agencies, prosecutors, the court system and probation departments and insuring failure by not providing resources for people and agencies to do their jobs.
Judges, prosecutors and probation officers who are not protecting the community should be replaced. There should be no suspended sentences or probation for violent acts involving use of a weapon or injuring someone. Carjacking, home invasion, armed robbery, domestic violence, child or elder abuse, shootings, gang violence and murder should never result in suspended sentences.
Juvenile records should be unsealed when offenders reach 18. Adult offenders shouldn’t be considered first-time offenders if they have a violent history as a juvenile.
There should be mandatory criminal background checks for people applying for jobs in schools, as teachers, in hospitals and nursing homes, day cares and probation departments.
We need to think about what candidates for local and state offices say about crime, particularly juvenile crime, and then hold them accountable for action once they are elected.

I have a better idea .. well more cynical anyway:
How about pregnant moms, no later than 18 weeks into pregnancy, be required to come in a check of their genome. We'll also test lifestyles, parenting skills, and what the hell ... have her pee in a cup. Maybe we'll check her political registration and see how many often she goes to church.
Based on the results .. we'll either suck the probable criminal into the sink, or provide prenatal care and post natal nurturing for the next Nobel Laureate.

... I forgot ... if the sperm donor does not join the mother during this screening interview, there is no need for further testing .... the decision is obvious.

I guess we've reached the point where law enforcement and the judicial system cracking down are the only solutions to juvenile crime. Notice nary a mention of parents in the letter.

There is a strong need for good parenting these days . . .

"It is time to demand zero-tolerance for juvenile violence and crime"...
If you follow this ploy, Mr./Ms. Hunter be prepared for an onslaught of 'discrimination' charges from the race pimps and their allies in the press and public 'education' system who refuse to acknowledge the truth concerning juvinelle crime stats.

I suggest an even better idea. How about we just publicly execute anyone convicted of a crime? I mean look at Saudi Arabia, isn't that a beacon of morality, justice and equality of the modern world. And it is not like that country exports many of the most vicious, immoral killers of the innocent we have seen in decades. Clearly, harsh sentencing laws do wonders for our security. It is just thrilling to hear people's knee-jerk reactions reprinted in the LTE week after week. Besides, we already have the largest prison population in the world (at least if you don't count Chinese slave camps) so why not increase it even more by locking up even more people. Its not like the taxpayers are paying for it or anything. Why, we should divert money from public schools (obviously the kids are all going to grow up criminals anyway) and pour them into more prisons. Then we can change our "land of the free" slogan to "land of the locked-up." My question is, what prison terms does LTE writer suggest we institute for these offenders? Because anything short of a life-sentence (and do you know how much that costs???) would just release the criminals back on the streets more hardened than ever.

Do we really want to compare crime statistics in Saudi Arabia with those in the United States?
Rapes and street crime in Saudi Arabia are virtually nonexistant.
It may sound bad when you say they execute folks for crimes, cut off hands for stealing, worse for rapist but those punishments are actually pretty uncommon. Maybe cause they are a good deterrent?

"There should be no suspended sentences or probation for violent acts involving use of a weapon or injuring someone."
But, but...where will we put all those gravely dangerous people who smoke marijuana if we put violent offenders in prison?

Where do we put all these offenders of societal morals? Why the people just voted Sheriff Barnes a fancy new jail. Now he should have room for the drunks and dope heads AND the violent monsters too. Otherwise, well until that new jail is built and ready to take care of everyone it will just have to be the drunks, deadbeat dads and addicts who get priority treatment.
There is a law enforcement program called Zero Tolerance that does indeed work. It worked in big bad New York City and cut crime dramatically. It does however require a police force with 1) leadership. Which GPD doesn't have, 2) a police force that is relatively criminal free. Again we don't have in the GPD as we have a small but controlling out of control group of offices who are very possible involved with the drug trafficking in Greensboro. or at least on friendly terms with the drug dealers. Police officers working other jobs when they are supposed to be on duty with the GPD, police officers who can't keep their zippers zipped, police officers who are so tough they slug handcuffed prisoners (remember Stacy Morton whom Wray fired and Mitch brought back? sending a message that this is okay behavior) and last 3) police officers who can have pride in their department and their career but whop are now so demoralized they too are finding it difficult to do their job.
When we get these things we will get a handle on crime, but certainly not before. And since our elected city officials seem to still have a love fest going with the city manager who demolished the GPD I don't see these things happening anytime soon. BB

Oh and I really don't understand why the complaints about the GPD cleaning up crime in Greensboro. After all we have really bad boy cops who just won't stand for being assaulted by 78 year old men. No siree, those sign carrying assaulting old codgers and thrown on the ground, handcuffed and hauled off to jail in a heart beat. And no worries about defending the cops actions since Chief Bellamy assures us he has, and will totally support, the manpower willing to take on these tough criminals.
The Greensboro City Council and the City Manager are apparently also 100% behind our fine men in blue who just won't stand for old men and unarmed bad guys who are out there.breaking the law. When they can't throw these criminals on the ground then they damned well shoot them or tase them. BB

Let me see if I understand this: You want us to consider re-modeling America using a country that has fully integrated religious doctrine with government policy .. actually I do see that as a possibility .. but I also see Madison, Jefferson and Adams hollering from their graves ....
Let’s try again: You want us to consider re-modeling America using a country that may be described as "Socialist Totalitarian" ... free education and medical care for the youth (long as they are not women, of course) … a country that as a true kingdom may be the ultimate example of cronyism ... a country that is also fascist (seamless integration of business and government) … a country that was saved from ruin by the father of America’s #1 enemy (at least Osama bin Laden USE to be America’s #1 enemy – last I heard “Wanted Dead or Alive” had flip-flopped as part of the “stay the course strategy” to “he doesn’t matter anymore) …
You want us to consider re-modeling America using a country that was home to 19 of 21 temporary airplane drivers that on 9-11 flew into a couple tall buildings and one funny shaped building?
You want us to consider re-modeling America using a country that doesn’t tolerate public sex unless you are part of the afore mentioned crony-crew, and then only when you are outside the country .. at which point pretty little first-time girls are a special thrill in between high-stakes gambling binges …
