Golf cartoon insulted president, servicemen

Someone displayed extremely poor taste, insensitivity and rudeness in choosing to publish the editorial cartoon, “Bush reveals he stopped playing golf in 2003 because of the war.”

It was an insult not only to our president but also to the servicemen depicted.

I may or may not have seen the particular cartoon the writer is speaking of, but I've seen a couple others with the same message.

And, why is it wrong to insult the President? As for the servicemen, I don't know if I've seen the same cartoon as the writer, so I don't know, but isn't it a bit insulting to the servicemen and their families for President Bush to say, "Oh yeah, I put you or your son or daughter in mortal danger and will continue to do so with no end in sight, but it's ok, I stopped playing golf (although I do sneak in some putt-putt in the underground bunker from time to time, heh hehe heh)."

K. So maybe it's not a direct quote....

Was this the cartoon?

Here's the quote:

“I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf,” [Bush] said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

Bush said he made that decision after the August 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, which killed Sergio Vieira de Mello, the top U.N. official in Iraq and the organization’s high commissioner for human rights.

“I remember when de Mello, who was at the U.N., got killed in Baghdad as a result of these murderers taking this good man's life,” he said. “I was playing golf — I think I was in central Texas — and they pulled me off the golf course and I said, ‘It's just not worth it anymore to do.’"

“I don't think you want your president trying to be the cool guy and not end up with policies that actually make a difference. So the policies I've outlined are policies that will actually make a difference [for example] ethanol.”

Ethanol- further proof of the law of unintended consequences.
BTW, did I hear that NOAA state that hurricanes are becoming less severe? I guess that's attributable to algore's reduced bellyaching.

" Ethanol .. the law of unintended consequences"

No .. further proof of the bozo's in Congress.

Lighten up, Francis!

President said he was 'sacrificing' by giving up golf. He's been spotted, by cameras, playing golf just a few weeks after making that deeply moving sacrifice.

In his continuation of peeing in the faces of soldiers and the country, he just peed in your face and told you it was raining. So when you call it an 'insult to the President' maybe you should think of the insulting way he's treated the soldiers? Maybe you should think of the conditions at Walter Reed? Maybe you should ask why he and John McCain oppose giving returning soldiers a new G.I. Bill?

Play your little games with a cartoon--you're no different than the muslims who get upset when Mohammed is depicted....but I'll bet that little rift made your hair stand on end, now didn't it?

If this is all the liberal pundits have to berate Bush about, he's having a pretty good year.

At least he wasn't choking an intern while radicals were dragging the bodies of our servicemen through the streets...

Rufus_T.Firefly [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Actually JDR he was misquoted and that's why he was seen playing golf a few weeks later. A corrected quote came out a few days ago and read so........

“I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing 'go fish',” [Bush] said. “I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing 'go fish' during a war just sends the wrong signal.”

Of course that correction wasn't picked up by the liberal media.

And to give him his due he hasn't been seen playing go fish since! (Besides, he finds it too complicated).

PAYDIRT!
Poor neocon has to resort to "relative" moral argument!!

At least Dan doesn't try to hide his inability to admit things, which I call the "LOOKY, LOOKY! DEMOCRATS/LIBERALS DID IT TOO!" defense.

neo,
You're such a 'Rambo' when it comes to military affairs, so why do you support a man who obviously does NOT support the troops?? A man whose disdain for the military is palpable?
Never mind, we know we'll never get a serious answer. Have a "blessed" day.

Maybe the writer should riot like some people who are insulted by cartoons. Perhaps the framers of the Constitution forgot to include the unalienable right not to be insulted.

I have no knowledge of how well equipped dubya is, but Paula Jones can provide testimony as to slick willie's capabilities:

Only you would be interested in that kind of stuff. Most of us don't roll that way.

(Couldn't resist. Low hanging fruit!)

Bush cares so deeply about the families of the soldiers....He gave up even trying to 'appear' intelligent.

Better inform with old yeller.

"(Couldn't resist. Low hanging fruit!)"

So where's the punchline, Einstein? Sometimes you're slightly amusing...most of the time you're simply an echo of the last liberal poster. ie: "Your best post ever James!"... "Great point, Carol!"..."Conundrum, thanks for blah, blah, blah"...

Sometimes amusing, but mostly pathetic. A sad little sack craving attention from his/her peers, and when that fails, as it normally does, you resort to your "Danny Boy/neoclown" mantra.

Kinda funny and sad at the same time...but mostly just pathetic.

'I await your learned response.'

He steals good sources and ideas too and then presents them a loud, insulting manner so it becomes less likely anyone will review the source.

Sigh.

Never did understand people getting all worked up about a damn cartoon.

If you don't like it, skip over it and read something else.

Nobody really gives a flip what you find offensive and what your take is on everything you just happen to read.
