Governor’s trip to Italy appalls this taxpayer

I was appalled to read about the governor’s trip to Italy compliments of the North Carolina taxpayers. Why would the outgoing governor go to Italy to get new business for us when he is not going to be in office after 2008? Why did he have to take his wife with him? What a great state we have.

I think the administration should be required to report to the taxpayers the so-called six promising leads to new business or expanding business.

I cannot imagine why the governor would only speak for four minutes at a 90-minute program. He and the entire administration should be ashamed and embarrassed about this “vacation” they took at our expense. I hope they enjoyed themselves.

Bill Wardell,

Every thing you said plus more. And we used to think former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards was the king of chutzpah. This empty suit little shrimp of a lame duck NC Governor takes the cake. What a rip off of the hard working taxpayers who can't even afford a weekend trip to the beach because of the high fuel prices( & and not having a State owned helicopter at their disposal like Tax Hike Mike ) For $4.00 per gallon gas, we can thank the Democrats and their refusal to allow drilling in ANWR and offshore.

Yes, Lord and Lady Easley must have had a grand time on their Italy adventure. And rest assured they were in no danger. You see , as I understand from the Rhino Times, the royal couple and their court were accompanied by a security detail of four plain clothes State Troopers ( riding in coach while their protectees were in first class @ a cost of $19,000.00 ). As John Hammer points out the officers were no doubt unarmed on the plane or while on Italian soil . Which raises the question why were they along on this boondoggle in the first place. Somebody with a strong back was needed to carry the luggage to the luxury suites, huh ? The expenses of the troopers and as well as others in the entourage have as yet to be reported . I guess the press has more important matters to pursue.

Well just a few more months of this mutt and then Pat McCrory can move into the Governor's quarters, after they are disinfected. What a refreshing thought.
