Stop the annexation until services are on line
The N.C. General Assembly is trying to get a moratorium passed on cities annexing properties without being able to provide the services as they are annexed.
In the May 23 News & Record, it was said the soon-to-be-annexed areas would not have proper fire and police protection until well after we are annexed.
This is what the General Assembly is trying to stop, but I will bet you Greensboro will not do the right thing and not annex us until we have the proper protection in place. They are too greedy for that. And, to all the annexed homeowners, watch your back because the city will not be able to do it until October or November.

The answer is simple; in fact, too simple to ever be taken seriously by the League of Municipalities. I have contaced state representatives about amending North Carolina's unfair annexation laws to include a provision stating that annexed property not be subject to property tax by the annexing city until the property changes hands, either through sale or inheritance. Cities couldn't go for the "money grab" of annexation, property owners in annexed areas would not be subject to taxes they did not "volunteer" for when the land was purchased, and buyers would know what they were getting in to when they buy a piece of property. It seems completly fair to me - but, of course, fairness is not the goal of annexation in North Carolina.

That sounds like a decent idea. Although, I'd say that only the sale of the land should start extra property taxes. Inheriting is not volunteering either.

Just another "sponge" who wants the advantages of city life without paying for it. Too bad.....free ride is over! Quit your whining and, oh yeah, welcome to the city.
