McCain has shown he’s no friend of U.S. workers

By most measures, our country is in dire straits with rapidly rising food and gas prices coupled with a weakening economy, job losses and declining home values. It’s little wonder a recent poll indicates nearly eight in 10 Americans feel we’re headed in the wrong direction.

It’s unnerving that Republican John McCain might be elected in November when his track record indicates he’s not a friend to American workers. For example, what is his record in response to the needs of these workers? He voted against extending unemployment insurance and providing much-needed worker training; providing low-interest loans to workers in job-training programs so they could continue making their mortgage payments; and allowing up to 52 weeks of unemployment benefits to individuals affected by Hurricane Katrina.

These are not the responses necessary to restore dignity and worth to those who are striving to provide the basics for their families.

From his voting record, there is little evidence that McCain as president would offer viable solutions to an embattled work force.

Rather than extend Unemployment Insurance we should be rewritting Unemployment Insurance so it encourages hiring.

Currently it merely adds stress (payments come from the employer) to a company presumable already embattled as witnessed them laying off people (due to a lack of business) ...

Why does everyone look to govt. to provide solutions to an "embattled workforce"?

Just yesterday in my class I had a single mom of three. She was a realtor in CO, but the market went bust. She always had an interest in medicine, so she relocated to Richmond, VA where family was near and got a job in a clinic. She is going to school part time to become a radiologist as they are in short supply.

I asked her if she was receiving any govt. assistance and the answer was no. Nor was she receiving assistance from her drug addicted deadbeat ex-husband. She said she rented a modest apartment and her family does help with the kids. That's it, she isn't relying on govt. to "restore dignity and worth".

Why in the minds of Mr. Kollar and likewise thinkers is the measure of a politician's worth based upon how much taxpayer money he/she can dole out in social programs?

Because they have been steeped in socialism brought about by FDR and his hyper-vote buying clone, LBJ. With the full support of academia elites and the media, of course.

The "socialism" you speak of was largely corrected with the welfare reform of the 90's.

There's more to correcting socialism than slick willie's welfare 'reform' package which, btw, was rammed down his throat by Newt.

rahrah,

Don't forget that Barack Obama opposed welfare reform when he was in the Illinois legislature. On May 31, 1997 Obama said on the floor of the Illinois state Senate, "I probably would not have supported the federal legislation."

Excellent link Neo. I noticed the central part of the piece was the wasteful Medicare drug bill, championed by GW Bush. You and I often get labeled as GOP mouthpieces in this blog, but I assume you agree that GOP wasteful spending and entitlements are no different than Democratic wasteful spending and entitlements. Pigs from both parties feeding off the trough that is our wallets.

The fiscal irresponsibility by Bush & the former Republican Congress was disgraceful as it is with the current Congress.

You assume correctly, Dan. It's the choice of the lesser of two evils, as I see it. Both parties spend like drunken sailors on shore leave, but at least the Republicans are more committed to the defense of the country whereas the democratic party, the party of defeat, was waving the white flag on 9/12/01. And now they have won the battle to give the terrorists access to American courts where OJ style juries can release them to kill more Americans...go figure.

This looks like a viable alternative, but the deck is stacked against 3rd parties:

Meanwhile, I'm looking at Bob Barr.
