Columnists downplay Bush-McCain errors
In their July 26 columns, Cal Thomas and Kathleen Parker criticize Barack Obama for not admitting that the surge in Iraq has worked. But they are missing the forest for the trees.
Why aren’t they criticizing President Bush and Sen. McCain for not admitting that the Iraq war was a colossal mistake nor acknowledging that their desire to keep U.S. troops in Iraq forever violates the wishes of Americans and Iraqis? If the surge has worked, why aren’t Bush and McCain willing to talk about bringing U.S. troops home?
The truth is that Sen. Obama was right in opposing the war, and his plan for withdrawing U.S. troops within 16 months has been endorsed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Despite the president’s previous refusals, he was forced to agree to a “time horizon” for withdrawal of U.S. troops on the eve of Sen. Obama’s trip to the Middle East. The Iraqis will not sign the Bush and McCain treaty that would establish permanent U.S. bases in Iraq. Instead, the Iraqis want to govern their own country.
President Bush has said that if the Iraqis ask us to leave, we will. So why won’t he and Sen. McCain keep that promise?

Boy is the Democratic leadership dumb. They pledged to get the troops out of Iraq and succeeded by simply participating in an election, but Republicans have pulled the issue from their grasp, taking credit for a “noble, necessary, and just” victory.
Let’s look at history in reverse. Today (July 7th) the United Arab Emirates gave Iraq $7 billion in debt relief. Why? Security has been improved due to a surge of troops to focus on developing local trust. More troops because Rummy was fired the day after Democrats were elected in en masse. America would no longer “Stay The Course”.
The sad truth is this: Democrats offered voters nothing but an option, the American People were merely voting NOT Republican. It was ABR: “Anything But Republicans” with Democrats as the most recognized alternative brand. Had any another party been a viable option, folks would have voted for them too.
Last week they spend yet another $162 Billion in “emergency war appropriation”. One would think after 7 years we could better anticipate this spending.
One would also think they would grab faux credit due; after all they are politicians.

Perhaps Bush the Pharaoh wasn't willing to take the chance of having a plague of locusts descend upon the white house if he defied the Deliverer.
And who could blame him?

I think that I truly understand why we are in Iraq. If you look at the posts for this LTE and you look at the sentiments of those Republicans who have no positions of political power and you multiply those sentiments by 100, you get those Repubilcans who are in positions of power who got what they wanted by sending troops to Iraq. One of the most interesting comments that I read about Sen. Helm's career, was that Helms "was opposed to anything that obstructed his conservative view of the world." So, there are those Republicans/Conservatives who will not allow 4,000 plus deaths to obstruct their view of what Iraq should be like. And what's the big deal about 4,000 plus dead? After all, we are bringing democracy to Iraq. Whether they like it or not. I've included a link to an article that shows what wasted human capital, in the form of brave young men and women, looks like.

For the US, the war is a problem. For the 15 or so countries which enable the conflict, the war is a solution. The war squanders US blood and treasure. Which enemy in their right mind would want this to end? The rest of the planet is now buying up the crown jewels of the US-made possible by increasing the money supply- over 60% since the war began. Europeans are flocking to the US to trade dollars for Euro products. Tata motors of India buying Ford's division of Jaguar and Landrover. A Belgian brewer is trying to buy Anheuser-Busch. Abu Dhabi has bought the Chrysler Building. A British hedge fund has their eyes on and pockets on CSX. Maybe the Knubian Knight has a solution for the fiat money hoax. Maybe he don't.

"No President should ever hesitate to use force – unilaterally if necessary – to protect ourselves and our vital interests when we are attacked or imminently threatened"

As President Obama will soon show, Iraq was less about democracy as it was about creating a staging area for us and a safe flyover area for our allies in our coming war with Iran.
I look forward to the new excuses, though. Control of both the executive and legislative branches and _still_ sticking around in Iraq...
