Smokers in city park marred picnickers’ day

I am a member of the Guilford County Tobacco Reality Unfiltered (TRU) Youth Advisory Board. Recently, we went on a picnic at Center City Park in downtown Greensboro.

When we got there, we were happy to see that the park was smoke-free. We saw a sign where we parked the car and several others at each entrance into the park asking visitors not to smoke while in the park.

We were happy to see the park was exceptionally clean, that children were laughing and playing and adults were enjoying their lunch breaks.

However, as we walked around the park, we saw a few people smoking, and our group picked up quite a few cigarette butts inside the park.

We would like to remind the community that when you are visiting Center City Park, please refrain from smoking inside the park area.

We do not want to breathe in the dangerous chemicals found in secondhand smoke when we are enjoying the afternoon. We hope that more parks will follow the good example set by Center City Park and go smoke-free.

A full body cavity search by the smoke gestapo at the entrance of the park should protect you, Ms. Nguyen. Still, it may be a good idea to carry a gas mask just in case one of the lowlifes happens to bribe one of the storm troopers into letting them sneak in a pack of Luckies.

I wonder how much money confiscated from smokers went into building this public park?

Isn't this park in the middle of the city, surrounded by city streets, streets that flow with cars that are emmitting exhaust and carbon monoxide? And this person is worried about a few cigarrettes? Please. If you don't want to breathe in the dangerous chemicals, better wrap yourself in a bubble.

Until emissions are proven to be as deadly as SHS, is this a true comparison? Besides, cars are a necessity; cigarettes are not.

People today still ask how the German people could have let the Nazis take over theor country. The idiot that wrote this letter shows exactly how they did it! Wasn't Hitler one of the first, prominent anti-smoking Nazi!

On top of that I hear some people were farting too . . .

. . . couldn't smell 'em because of all the smoke . . . but that's beside the point . . .

. . . Kristy, is it wrong if we don't maintain the missionary position? I don't want to offend you . . . BTW the new missionary position is BEND OVER . . .

Kristy, why didn't someone in your group try to locate a police officer (either one on foot or on a Segway or trying out a horse)?

I can only hope that protective coverings were worn on hands when picking up the cigarette butts. Those things have saliva on them. Yeeeoooowww!

But now that you have opened this Pandora's box about unacceptable behavior in a "city" park, I'll go on record with my pet peeve.

I'm tired of alcoholic beverages (including those under the guise of "but-it's-good-for-my-health" wine) being consumed in open-air public areas designated as "parks."

Hope you didn't have to smell, step over, or even worse clean the remnants of alcohol-laden stomach contents from your shoes when seeking to enjoy the Center City Park.

Yvonne,

I believe that carbon monoxide is much more dangerous than SHS. What do you think would kill you faster, breathing in SHS for 8 hours or breathing in exhaust fumes from a car?

Bishop [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Mark,

Not to nitpick, but BOTH car exhaust and cigarette smoke contain carbon monoxide. I assure you that both cigarette smoke and car exhaust are quite deadly in large amounts.

Emissions are MUCH more dangerous Yvonne!! They cause global warming that will kill hundreds of millions!!! Most coastal areas will be underwater!!!

Global warming even causes kidney stones!!! We're doomed!!

Back to the letter:

1) Show some balls Kristy and inform the offenders (perhaps they didn't know) that smoking isn't allowed in the park or;

2) Relocate elsewhere in the park.

I wonder why we are rebuilding NO if its going to be under 20 feet of water in 10 years? Also wonder why the professors that are preaching global warming. are building them ocean front houses?

Good question Dog, NO should have been evacuated permanently after Katrina due to global warming. After all, Katrina was Bush's fault as he didn't sign Kyoto, according the esteemed climatologist RFK Jr.

Yes, Bishop, I am aware of that. But which one do people use to kill themselves quickly and painlessly?
