« Stop posturing and pass crucial bailout package | Main | A silver lining? Nah »

Americans need clarity on U.S. fiscal meltdown

Frantic reports of frantic negotiations held behind closed doors. Then solemn men in solemn suits congratulating themselves for rescuing us from oblivion. Rescuing us from oblivion one more time.

It was the latest episode of a long-running soap opera. Your Sept. 21 front-page headline announced: “Bush formally proposes $700 billion bailout.”

We are being asked to comprehend 700 billion of whatever the serpentine symbol is supposed to represent. That would be easier if we knew of what just one of them consists.

A definition in terms of something other than itself. A definition in terms of something that is rigid and tactile. A definition that won’t change tomorrow.

The solemn men in the solemn suits promise that new regulations will spare us yet another visit to the brink. The aforementioned definition is the only regulation that is necessary and the only one that will be sufficient. It also is the one that will be avoided like the plague.

$700 Billion Dollars.

It could feed every person in America THREE Taco Bell Crunchy Tacos every day for just about 28 months.

At least it will give the slobbering B-b-b-barney Frank and Chris Dodd time to find a new scapegoat.

Actually it would buy GWB enough time to ride into the sunset and leave the timebomb for the next guy. Think of the fun you guys will have ripping Obama (if he wins) over the state of the economy when he gets stuck holding the bag.

This is the stuff I’m talking about .. OK .. it’s not your quote .. but it’s crap ... unless s.o.m.e.o.n.e comes up with better data than what I’ve found.

Not that it'll make any difference, there's plenty of Carter/Clinton apologists websites to spin this and sooth the soul of the true believers, but here is the real scoop on this D.E.M.O.C.R.A.T.I.C. mess:

rah rah, (if you are still out there): loved your anology.... and also love tacos! am wondering how your stats would figure out if I insist on a side of guacamole and tomatoes (because the basic crunchy taco at TB comes with neither)... would I get at least 2 a day / if necessary, I would settle for just one, but gotta have the guac and 'maters!

"Why anyone would want to be president even in good times is beyond me Howie. Beyond me too, Dan."

Beyond me too! All I know is that I see good/ bad on both sides and know one has to be brave to run..... (esp. in our media age)... this is the most exciting pres election I've been involved with, (voted in 6 so far since I turned 18 all those years ago) I'm glad to be living and glad (despite the toubles of the times) that there are still folk brave enough to do it!

Hope to check out the videos you all sent tomorrow while I have a day off.... but they are busy days too......

Link one - I've read that before .. but I've not found anything to verify "President Clinton put on steroids the Community Redevelopment Act"

Show me that.

... and Raines Gorelick looting doesn't count. I'm not saying they didn't do it ... I am saying they did what all those bastards do. Maybe they are "worse" because it was a "public" corporation, but first off Fannie an dFreddy are really private - stock trades and all that. Second, all those bastards do it - why does this rape get all the attention?

==

Link two - Obama getting funding from Fannie has nothing to do with the topic ... which was, I think that Carter's Community Redevelopment Act cause all this.

Try again. I mean a.g.a.i.n. - so far you are down three strikes, Neo.

Not beyond me.

1 - everything provided - for life.
2 - unlimited power
3 - star power

what the hellmore could a power monger want?

Like I said, I never expected to change the heart of the true believers. Just posting links to the truth.

But... to poo poo a link clearly showing the democrats WERE in bed with Fannie/Freddy after posting a Jimmy Carter 'memo' where he never 'MANDATED' the loans be made is hilarious.

Comic relief at it's best. You struck out on this one several days ago, my friend when Tom S. handed you your ass on a platter.

James D. Rockefeller [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I've yet to see the "link to the truth" you posted. I did see you repost the same link Tom posted .. the same Tom who Handed me my ass on a platter?
Yea, right.

Post it here for all to see - I double triple dog-dare ya. Never mind - I'll save you the trouble - hey - what are friends for!

Tom S. said Barney Frank - with the aid of other Congressional Democrats AND the National Association of Home Builders - converted the Republicans who controlled of all three houses (counting the Whitehouse) into the meek, the inept, the no longer capable of taking action.

Gimme a freaking break.

Later he added George Bush to the pile along with Barney Frank.

I sarcastically say Carter was responsible in ‘77, to which Tom makes sure we understand he "made no connection" .. and then (above) you "tossing out diversions ... like "Carter did it" ...

Now THAT was hillarious.

I ask for the umpteenth time: Please show where "a hint to Fannie and Freddie" became Barney Frank "forcing" the gurus of wall street to make loans for "affordable" housing without so much as a credit check let alone to those without so much as a job.

You say Democrats were in bed with Fannie/Freddy? Sure. Republicans were too, as well as the Wall Street Investment Banks of which there are now ... is none the correct answer? I'm sure Bush will be given credit for "taking down" the evil Investment Bank structure and converting them all into responsible Commercial Banks.

I ask for the umpteenth time: Show where "President Clinton put on steroids the Community Redevelopment Act" - not an editorial that says it .. show me the data. What law did he sign? What did he to to Force the Wall Streeters to start making really stupid decisions with other peoples money?

neocon [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Uh, no I can't produce a signed letter from Barney or Chris Dodd threatening Fannie/Freddie with jail time if they fail to offer loans to people who cannot afford them. Admitted.

But the smartest person (certainly on this blog, and quiet possibly in the country...dare I say world?) said a few days ago, 'where there's smoke, there's usually fire'.

The F/F meltdown is a direct result of congress (DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS) promoting the welfare state by encouraging high risk/low interest loans in order to promote their ideal 'fair' housing schemes. Sure there were/are a few republicans with their fingerprints all over this, but the vast majority of the blame lies with the democrats and their social engineering schemes.

A 'memo' from the socialist peanut farmer as 'proof' of anything is a joke.

What's the matter, cRock-o-...feller, lose your nuts on this thread and decided to start the spin on another thread in the hopes that no one would notice?

Methinks you are all wind and spin. When you lose, it isn't pretty. Where is your flock on this one? Ms. Dunn? Yvonne? Seems even your most trusted admirers can smell the poop before they step in it.
