Obama bests McCain on handling complex issues
Don Mulligan writes about John McCain’s direct answers to questions posed at the Saddleback Church forum. Then he spins Barack Obama’s answers as evasive, because he was more detailed. This kind of thinking is what brought us the catastrophe of the Bush administration. George W. Bush gave short, simple answers during the debates leading up to the elections. Sadly, this appealed to many people.
Questions about religion or morals are not simple and deserve complex answers because there are many different schools of religious thought. In the same vein, questions of public policy require complex answers, for the solutions are not simple.
As we all know, George W. Bush was not a scholar, so it is logical that he gave short, simple answers. McCain, the son and grandson of Navy officers, graduated fifth from the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy. Not being a scholar, he also gave short, simple answers, with military brevity. We’ve had eight disastrous years of a guy who thinks simplistically.
Obama graduated from Harvard Law School with honors and he headed up the Harvard Law Review. He has the intelligence to address the complicated issues of our times.

So, McCain was just a graduate of the Naval Academy, and that means he is not a scholar, huh? I guess that means he was an evil member of the military. Everybody knows that members of military are just people that can't make it in college and are drop-outs.
Obama is a brilliant scholar and that allows him to address complicated issues, huh? So, if that is true, why did he punt when asked a simple question as to when a child gets human rights and say it is above his paygrade? Did he use his vast intellect as a scholar to answer a simple question by saying it is above his paygrade? So, what answers and decisions would be above his paygrade, if he was elected president? If they are above his paygrade, who is going to address them?

I think it was very wise of Obama to not get bogged down in the mire of the religious right. Besides, let's face it and be truthful ourselves, Obama could not have given an answer to suit you unless he echoed your thoughts on the matter, ORR. You do not support him no matter how brilliant he may or may not be.

"Questions about religion or morals are not simple and deserve complex answers because there are many different schools of religious thought."
Agreed, but Obama was not asked a question about religion or morals of greater American society, his IL constituency, or even those of his buddies in South Chicago. He was asked when HE, Barack Obama, believes a child gets human rights. That is a basic core belief.
To the contrary Yvonne, I would have been pleased to hear Obama answer truthfully, but he knows speaking truthfully would harm him not only with the religious right but most Americans in general. I don't believe that most Americans would agree that a baby who survives a botched abortion should be denied medical care and left to die.
McCain gave short answers initially but then expounded with his beliefs and reasoning. I prefer that to a muddled response followed by its above my paygrade.

Yvonne,
It's not about Obama giving answers to suit me. Obama agreed to participate in the Saddleback Forum, and as such, you would think that meant that he was going to honestly share answers that reflected his values and beliefs. If that answer didn't meet with my belief, so be it. I want candidates to give honest answers to their core belief questions, not political spin. If Obama didn't want to get bogged down in the mire of the religious right, why was he even there?
The writer was extolling Obama's vast intellect and how he was a scholar. Scholars are usually able to answer even simple questions regarding core beliefs. The question of when he "believed" a child should have human rights was directed to his core beliefs, and one that he had to have considered before. It could not have been such a remote question that he would never have even considered the matter. With all of the issues surrounding abortion, he had to have given this some thought in the past. No, Yvonne, Obama simply punted the answer as he did not want to take a position in that forum. If Obama was authentic, he should have simply said that he didn't choose to answer the question. His answer that it was above his paygrade was comedic, but maybe all that he could think to say at the time.

The heading on this letter was "Obama bests McCain on handling complex issues", and maybe that is true. But, Obama has shown us, Yvonne, that McCain handles simple questions better than Obama, because they are above Obama's paygrade, even with his vast intellect and being a Harvard scholar.
You know, Harry Truman was a pretty good Democrat president. He was a simple man. His first elected office was as a Jackson County judge. He served a few terms in the Senate before being selected to run as FDR's VP. Harry Truman was placed on the ticket with FDR, even though it was known that FDR might not live out the term. Most people thought that Truman was just a hick from Missouri, and he had no qualifications to be president. It took him awhile to grow into the job, but in the end, Harry Truman did a heckuva job, surprising all of the elites.
Harry Truman never attended college. Harry Truman replaced a man in FDR that came from a wealthy family and had a privileged youth. He went to all of the best schools and graduated from Harvard, a scholarly place. Yes, he could give complex answers to complex questions as well.
But, in the end, Harry Truman proved to be a great president, even though he was not a scholar and was just a simple man. I bet he usually gave short, simple answers to questions as well.

"So, McCain was just a graduate of the Naval Academy, and that means he is not a scholar, huh? "
Yep, McCain had to have strings pulled to even get him INTO the Naval Academy, and then he graduated
894 out of 899. Pretty much says it all.
To keep the names straight, let's call McCain "Dumb".
Now for "Dumber":
Sarah Palin supports "Abstinence ONLY" sex education and that's really working well for her. Working so well, that the campaign is now telling the press to "back off". Methinks that if Sarah Palin were not such a rabid opponent of teaching sex education, the press might not have been interested in the first place! (Hypocrisy? Oh surely not)
We've already had a moron as a President, so can't we just try a smart guy for a change?
If you really liked the Bush/Cheney administration, you should vote for McCain. That is a great choice for anyone who thinks the past eight years have been high water marks for America.
If, on the other hand, you have tired of having a total moron in the White House, then let's put someone who has proven they can handle reading more than "The Pet Goat", into the White House.
Oak Ridge Runner: Bush/McCain/Palin suits you and those with similar thoughts to a 'T'. I strongly suggest you support them with the zeal of your spirit. It is a free country, so have at it.
For me, and many others, we would prefer to focus on the economy, the war, and not the flat earth society issues like "Abstinence ONLY" sex education, No abortions--even if the life of the mother is in danger, or even in cases of rape or incest, and of course your usual show horses, "GUNS" and Gays".
Bush/McCain/Palin are too extreme for America. Too extreme to trust and too extreme to risk our votes on.
BTW, Mr. Palin is a member of the Secessionist Party and Sarah has attended their rallies---if Reverend Wright was unpatriotic, then how will you spin this story?????

"Sarah Palin supports "Abstinence ONLY" sex education and that's really working well for her. Working so well, that the campaign is now telling the press to "back off"."
As for telling the press to back off, here is a word of advice Demon Deacon, who takes his posts from Kos/Micheal Moore/Huff Post/Mediamatters/Soros directives. Read the following quotes:
"Let me be a clear as possible, I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people's families are off limits and people's children are especially off limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and, you know, how a family deals with issues and you know teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who's supporting me understands that's off limits."
Sen. Barack Obama
“The press has been asking me that question and I’ve not answered it for two reasons, first of all, I don’t know the governor. There’s no reason not to respect her and I believe she’s qualified to be the vice president. I simply don’t know her, I take her on face value. She’s a governor and that’s no mean feat, and she seems to have a strong personal story.
“Children are off limits. We’ve all been through things with our children. It’s about common decency. Just treat people with common decency.”
Joe Biden
It seems your candidates have much more decency than you Demon Deacon, good for them. In fact, you are the only one posting tabloid nonsense. I don't see Howie, Yvonne, Carol, Kornbluth, Slaan, rahrah or ANYONE ELSE posting similar BS. Isolated as usual.
Keep going however, it's indicative of the Kos/Micheal Moore/Huff Post/Mediamatters/Soros spin and very revealing.

BTW Demon Deacon, tune in O'Reilly tomorrow night, he will be interviewing Obama.

Note how much time and energy the left wing blogs are devoting to such a 'lightweight' as Palin?
The desperation and worry is palatable. She has the village idiot babbling and foaming at the mouth every time he/she posts. LOFL! I'll bet Barry would give his left arm to have his pick to do over again. (Too late, Barry...you're stuck with a hair plugged plagiarist blowhard who has been in DC for about 197 years now...now THAT'S what I call change!) :]
Fun to watch.
BTW, wonder what percent of those illiterates down in the big easy will pull the lever for the lower case messiah? This, after all, is His "base". LOFL!

Did you hear Biden today in Ohio?.. He said "Ask not what your country can do for you"...
:]

Then he said something about a cherry tree and how he was incapable of lying...

I'm in Ohio today, didn't see him, good luck on my part.
