« I feel ashamed for nation | Main | No bank deregulation has occurred under Bush »

If you support Obama, then don’t read this letter

Things to ignore when voting for Barack Obama:

1. The Democrats have controlled Congress for the past two years. Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, and Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, refused to restrain Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae when warned by Sen. John McCain and other Republicans in 2006 that trouble was brewing with the two lending giants. The Democrats took no action because they, including Barack Obama, were receiving contributions from Fannie and Freddie.

2. McCain supported the surge in Iraq, which has been a huge success, while Obama opposed it. Obama instead called for an early withdrawal from Iraq, which would have meant a defeat by Muslim extremism.

3. Obama supports abortion, including partial-birth abortion, which is a hideous procedure killing a late-term baby in the womb and classifying the procedure as an abortion rather than murder. This procedure has been outlawed, but Obama has pledged to support its reimplementation. More than 48 million babies have been aborted in the United States since 1973.

4. Obama sat in church with the Rev. Wright for 20 years but claims he did not hear his hate-filled sermons.

3. I have not heard Barack Obama say, "I support partial birth abortion," nor do I currently have reason enough to believe that he does.

4. I'm waiting to hear, read, or see a 'hate-filled' sermon from Reverend Wright.

1. Elizabeth Dole is on the senate banking committee. A committee, though it has a head, operates as a democracy with votes and such.

2. Iraq has not been a failure, but it is a far cry from a huge success.

3. Abortion is a medical procedure, and should be covered under the new HIPPA laws. What gives any person the right to interfere with a person, her medical condition and her personal relationship with God?

4. Walk a mile in his shoes. Was it hate, or decades long anger being released?

For the record, I still am undecided. Had been leaning towards Obama prior to Biden signing on. I really have no clue now.

Winston-Salem police said the three men have been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and are being held in the Forsyth County jail.

The three men arrested and charged were Jamel Robertson Smith of 228 Montpelier Drive; Vincent Jermaine White of 2796 Piedmont Circle; and Derrick Monte Hairston of 2729 Piedmont Circle.

I am not sure I dislike Biden. If I said that, I misspoke. To me, a career politician is part of the problem, not part of the solution...ie: McCain/Biden.

Maybe someone with absolutely no experience is exactly what this country needs. Maybe and Obama/Palin ticket would be better off. It seems to me the policies of the last 20 years have all been fairly unsuccessful. I think I like the idea of a new face, and a new thought process. Maybe a politician that says to his opponet, you know- you have a good idea there- if I am elected I'd like to use that! Not that we will EVER hear anything like that---still nice to hope.

If you really believe in redistribution of the wealth, I live on SS and am a little short this month. Send a few bucks on over. Don't launder it through DC where I'll receive a few pennies, just cut out the middle man, send it directly to me and I'll get the full benefit of your sharing.

As for his relationships, even if he only attended church on Easter and Christmas he had 40 exposures to Wright and yet found nothing offensive about him until he appeared at the Washington Press Club. After that, he must have had pangs of conscience as he threw Wright under the bus, along with his white grandmother, I guess.

No takers? Thought so.

How about this?

http://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/viewarticle.php?selectedarticle=2008.10.16_George_Robert_Obama%20and%20Infanticide_.xml

Noteworthy:

"When Obama was challenged to explain himself, earlier in this campaign, he at first insisted that he opposed the Born-Alive Act in Illinois because it didn't have a neutrality clause. When critics contended that this claim was false, Obama accused them of ''lying.'' But then the critics produced indisputable documentary evidence that in fact Obama had voted against a bill that did include the neutrality clause. Obama had plainly misrepresented his record. Now he really had some explaining to do.

But Obama still did not tell the truth last night. As his original 2002 statements make clear, he sought to defeat the Born-Alive Act because he recognized that it bears at least implicitly on the larger question of abortion in America. He seemed to realize that the logical implication of protecting the child born alive after an attempted abortion is that abortion involves taking the life of a child in the womb, and that acknowledging that, even at the extreme margins of the practice of abortion, could put the legitimacy of abortion itself in question. Therefore, Obama chose to defend the widest possible scope for legal abortion by building a fence around it, even if that meant permitting a child who survives an abortion to be left to die without even being afforded basic comfort care."

....and:

"In light of the documentary evidence that is now before the public, it is clear that the accusation against Senator Obama, however shocking, has the very considerable merit of being true."

So what would you call that sort of thing?

I call it "infanticide".

Yvonne [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

I call it a matter of interpretation, Bubba. I did not see one iota of evidence that Obama said he believed in killing viable babies. Your link was some columnist's interpretation of what Obama said or thought and his take on what the bill said.

So what is your point? That some ignorant acting man has an opinion also? What's new about that? And what is significant about that? Abusing her power as governor, leaving her little town Alaska in the red when she left as mayor are but the tip of the iceburg. If you are proud of that, God help you.

GayTony,

Whatever you think about McCain, new face and new thought process doesn't fit.

Don't forget that Obama was the man that agreed with McCain 11 times in the first debate and was roundly criticized for it.

Good luck in your decision.

It's not what you say, Einstein, it's what you DON'T SAY.

However, understanding that concept requies critical analysis skills, so perhaps I should not expect any better of you.

As far as Yvonne's statement about my links being all about "my agenda, and not the truth", I would encourage her to do a little research about the "columnists", and what they represent before you embarrasses herself in public again.

On the other hand, maybe she actually LIKES appearing stupid......

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Look. I've read all the propaganda from both sides, Bubba. And, sure, Obama cast a vote against this bill with a neutrality clause in committee, along with 5 other Democratic Senators. After Obama moved to the US Senate, the Illinois legislature passed the bill with a more explicit neutrality clause than the federal bill and the bill Obama's committee struck down. This leads me to believe that it was the general feeling among pro-choice Illinois legislators that the neutrality clause in the federal legislation was not enough when applied to Illinois law.

Obama wasn't there when the bill with more explicit clause was passed, so I can't know if he would have supported it or not. And Obama was not in the US Senate when the federal bill passed, so it's impossible to know how he would have voted there.

The point is, a no vote on a bill doesn't equate to an endorsement of partial birth abortion or infanticide unless that no vote is accompanied by a statement that says such.

From what Obama has said, he voted against the bill because he thought he might affect the legality of abortion in all cases. Examining the legislative record, I find this to be consistent.

Bubba [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"The point is, a no vote on a bill doesn't equate to an endorsement of partial birth abortion or infanticide unless that no vote is accompanied by a statement that says such."

Of course it does, and no rationalization, parsing of words, or other diversionary statements by you will change the facts. Nor can you twist and contort the facts to make it say what you want it to say.

Babble on as much as you like on this subject, but you'll never be able to justify your comments.

Obama's actions supported abortion in every aspect, particularly partial birth abortion, and his opposition to legislation that supported the care rights of such babies who were born alive after a botched procedure is an endorsement of infanticide.

No "if"s, no "and"s, no "but"s.

It's an endorsement of infanticide.

Period.

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

If that's how you feel, that's how you feel...but I don't see the world in black and white. I think it's not as simple as you'd like it be...but it's your prerogative to feel that way.

And it's your prerogative to stay uniformed (purposely or otherwise) on this issue.

Meanwhile, chew on this. Pay special attention to Obama's own words in the both of his segments of the video, then tell me again he doesn't endorse partial birth abortion and infanticide.

Or just remain willfully ignorant.

I don't care either way.

All you redistribution Obamaites, I'm still waiting for you to stand tall and redistribute some of your wealth to poor old me. Or is, as I suspect, this stance is just so much BS.

This is, after all, the cornerstone of BHO"s platform...a shameful attempt to buy the election.

Biden has proven that he is all for distributing someone else's wealth but not his own...a measly $3600.00 in charitable contributions in the last few years.

I'll trade you one McCain birth certificate for one Obama birth certificate. You deliver first. What do you want for the rest of his withheld crap? McCains war record?

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

That's me, Mr. Ignorant.

Yvonne's right, you know. You come at this with an agenda. You already don't like Obama...anything you say, anything I say will be affected by our biases. I'm doing my best to come at this issue with an objectivity. I'll say that I'm skeptical of Obama, even though I voted for him. I tag myself as a moderate liberal when forced, but I don't really like putting myself in boxes. That's my bias.

When I look at the facts and progression of events with the bill, facts unhindered by emotion, his explanation seems reasonable to me. If reading and watching everything you've posted, searching for the original text of bills, dates introduced, and looking on fact checking websites makes me ignorant...then so be it. I'm ignorant.

But I think what really makes me ignorant in your eyes is that I've done all this and come to a different conclusion than you. Generally, this is known, not as ignorance, but what adults like to call 'disagreement.'

cutawad [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Yvonne-I've been gone three years and you still, apparently, don't have an original thought of your own. Why not sign off and take a long vacation.

Bubba [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

"But I think what really makes me ignorant in your eyes is that I've done all this and come to a different conclusion than you. Generally, this is known, not as ignorance, but what adults like to call 'disagreement.'"

No.

"Agenda" has nothing to do with the point in question, and if you possessed even a small portion of academic and intellectual integrity about the subject matter, you would understand that.

You are willfully ignorant in the face of clearly supported facts and documentation which prove you are wrong.

There is no gray area here. There is no "different conclusion" regarding the statement you made about Obama and abortion.

Obama supports abortion in every and all aspect, and tacitly supported infanticide so that he could protect the absolute, unfettered right to abortion, a staple of a cherished "progressive" belief. His words in both clips that appear in the video clearly establish that in no uncertain terms, whether you like it,or not.

Your continuing childish assertions won't change that. You are effectively sticking your fingers in your ears, and singing at the top of your voice "La La La La La, I can't HEAR you!" which is the response we would expect of a spoiled little kid who can't face the truth of being busted for his or her dishonesty.

Deal with it.

rahrah [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Like I said, I can't know if Obama would have voted in favor the Born-Alive Bill that finally did pass the Illinois Senate, but I suspect that he would have.

Here is the version of the bill that Obama voted against in committee.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/94/HB/09400HB0984.htm

His committee's down vote prevented this bill from reaching the floor in 2003, but this is the same version. It was reintroduced in 2005. After debates and committees it finally passed as this version:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/94/HB/09400HB0984enr.htm

This version added to the original neutrality clause these two statements:

(d) Nothing in this Section shall be construed to affect existing federal or State law regarding abortion.
(e) Nothing in this Section shall be construed to alter generally accepted medical standards.

This vote passed the Senate with a vote of 54 Y, 0 N, and 4 presents.

Four of the five democrats who voted to against the first version of the bill in committee with Obama voted yes on this bill. One voted present. You can crosscheck that here with Senate vote:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/votehistory/94/senate/09400HB0984_05182005_019000T.pdf

and here with the committee vote:

http://www.politifact.com/media/files/bornalive.pdf

This says, to me, that the primary reason for voting against the original bill was not an endorsement of partial-birth abortion or infanticide, but a vote to prevent the right to abortion to be chipped away at. Many on this board have argued that laws are often applied beyond the scope of their stated intent, and they are right. It seems to me, that once the law made completely clear that it's intention was not to end all abortions, but only these partial birth abortions, it enjoyed overwhelming support. I'd bet, although I can't know, that Obama would have voted for this final version of the bill as none of his fellow committee members that voted no in 2003 voted no when the bill was passed and only 1 voted present.
