Let’s get beyond race in picking candidates
I would like to address this letter to all Americans, black and white, who won’t vote for a man, Sen. Barack Obama, because of the color of his skin. I overheard a conversation between two Caucasian women the other day. One remarked that she is a Democrat but is voting for McCain because “I just can’t bring myself to vote for a Neeegro.”
My question for those of like mind and low intelligence is this: Do you know how many “Neeegroes” have helped shape your life?
George Washington Carver discovered uses for the peanut and other products. Are you not going to use those products because he was black?
Garrett Morgan invented the gas mask. Are you not going to use the mask because the inventor was black?
Dr. Charles Drew created new techniques for blood storage and helped develop large-scale blood banks. Are you not going to get a transfusion to save your life because he was black?
Come on, voters. Don’t set us back a hundred years. Vote for the candidate who can identify with the average American’s issues — who is going into this election with his eyes wide open — not the one with blinders on. Vote for Barack Obama.

Let’s get beyond race ...
Isn't this a political race? How can one "go beyond" that which something is? Fourth dimension stuff?
Posted on October 7, 2008 4:12 AM
Skin color has nothing to do with inexperience, association with Tony Rezko and Bill Ayers, ACORN, Violation of the Logan Act, support of Marxist political leaders, failure to produce a valid US birth certificate to end a lawsuit in US Federal Court, failure to release grades at Harvard, failure to release a Master's Thesis, or going from being a low paid community organizer/State Senator to living in a million dollar house.
Obama is hiding things from public scrutiny. Why?
Posted on October 7, 2008 5:44 AM
at least one of your claims is bogus, Hugh .. makes me question all of your claims

I say so what . . . I overheard a Neeegro say on television the other day . . . "We all gonna vote for Obama and make it rain for McCain. We gonna run stuff around here then . . ."
Carie E. Cauthen . . . what the hell is this supposed to mean?

So if we don't vote for the little messiah it will 'set us back a hundred years'?
This makes about as much sense as 'hope and change'.
Hugh, it's not allowed to question why He hasn't produced a valid birth certificate to put an end to the lawsuit brought about by a dyed-in-the-wool democrat. You risk being flashed a copy of a birth certificate on 'Snopes'...the same one you will see on His 'stop the smears' website.

I can remember not so long ago when Obama's pastor made quite a few very racial remarks.... oh but they were directed toward caucasians, so they really don't count, right?
Oh yeah, (silly me!) and because Obama "denounced" Rev. Wright after all those years (when his comments hurt his campaign), we are supposed to have forgotten all about them.... that way we can focus on how horrible Sarah's church is!
What a double standard!

Hugh,
if you want facts, instead of spreading lies, innuendo and other misstatements, go to factcheck.org. That will answer all of your questions. that is, unless, you don't want to hear the truth.

Did anyone see yesterdays print N&R front story? I featured several groups who are working to restore the voting rights of ex-felons, particularly black males. Nothing illegal here, but the article stated that the effort creates a lucrative voting block for Obama, as many of these people are black.
Of course the article stated that these workers, several whom said they support Obama, were not going to tell ex-felons who to vote for. Riiiiiight.

If we are going to go beyond skin color in deciding our president, someone should have slipped a cue to Joe Biden.

Dan, Good find. From your link:
"Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, campaigning in North Carolina where white votes could help swing the state to the Republicans, said today that electing a white person to the White House would be transformative.
Palin said the policies of running mate John McCain make his presidency even more urgent and declared this to be the most important election that any living person has seen in their lifetime. But she particularly singled out the meaning of electing someone who is white."

Good letter. Too bad the "race baiters" and the "truth-be-damned" folks overlap. I suppose the race baiters who don't want to be so overt, resort to being, like Hugh, "Truth-be-damned" folks.
Nice try to the usual suspects. Nice try.

“I would like to address this letter to all Americans, black and white, who won’t vote for a man, Sen. Barack Obama, because of the color of his skin.” Unfortunately, Ms. Cauthen, you are going to find a lot of whites who will not pull the switch for Obama because of his skin color. I came across two quotes that shine a light on this point:
“But race is just one manifestation of the emotion that defined the Palin rollout. That dominant emotion is fear — an abject fear of change. Fear of a demographical revolution that will put whites in the American minority by 2042. Fear of the technological revolution and globalization that have gutted those small towns and factories Palin apotheosized.”
Dick Armey, the former House Majority Leader, said that “There’s an awful lot of people in America, bless their heart, who simply are not emotionally prepared to vote for a black man.”
So, Ms. Cauthen, these quotes shouldn’t give you any comfort, and neither should the majority of posts that will follow your letter.

How Racism Works:
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?
This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.
You are The Boss... which team would you hire?
With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.
Educational Background:
Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in
International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.
McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism
Now, which team are you going to hire ?

"PS: What if Barack Obama had an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?"
That's an easy one, LibCon. Obama wouldn't want his daughter "punished with a baby". He'd simply get her an abortion.
But, Obama's own mother was an unwed, pregnant teenager herself, so he was fortunate that she didn't see him as a punishment.
Posted on October 7, 2008 10:05 AM
By the way, LibCon, whatever happened to Barack's white granny? I don't ever see her at any of his rallies. It's almost like he doesn't want to be seen with her.

As neo suggested earlier on this thread, someone would post a copy of Obama's birth certificate. Glad to oblige:

ORR, you keep asking, and we keep telling you. She's old, not in good health, and can't really travel. Obama doesn't appear to be ashamed of the white portion of his family. At the Convention, he brought out his old, white uncle.
But I doubt it matters that I even typing this, tomorrow or next week, you'll be spreading the same BS.

new-sense, forensic analysis of digital image codes embedded in the "supposed" Obama Certificate of Live Birth have proven it's a forgery.
The DNC is fighting Phillip Berg's lawsuit tooth and nail. A simple, certified copy from the Hawaii State Dept. of Vital Records would put this to rest.
I wonder why Obama doesn't comply?

We have lived in this culture of fear created and pounded into the American people by GW and his gang for too long. It's obvious that is the tactic still being used by McCain. We should all be sick and tired of this Chicken Little syndrome and color coded guides.

"And if it's so "simple" to get, why don't you post the evidence on this thread, and save someone else the trouble of finding it."
Simple for Obama, impossible for anyone else.
Hawaiian State law prohibits the disclosure of vital statistics (birth certificates) except to those who are directly connected to those records. Since his mother and father are dead Obama is the only one who has the authority to release the information, which he refuses to do. I wonder why?

"Let's see, McCain has a 13 percent lead with white voters, Obama has an 81 percent lead with black voters. And the letter writer is complaining about white people voting based upon skin color?"
Dan, sometimes it is incredibly hard to follow your logic. I would say that most black voters better relate to someone who has always supported a MLK holiday, who supports affirmative action, and who supports voting rights. McCain comes from your party and the party of Helms and Lott. Even now, Palin is using code words "he's not one of us" to describe Obama. What on God's green earth, would an African American find appealing about your party's message? Even your friend, ex-lieutenant governor Michael Steele, complained about the scarcity of blacks at the Republican National Convention.
I am quite certain that JFK got the majority of Irish voters.
Posted on October 7, 2008 1:22 PM
"McCain comes from your party and the party of Helms and Lott."
Let's see, black voters prefer Obama because he's a Democrat and not because he's black? Oh, I get it now!!
"I would say that most black voters better relate to someone who has always supported a MLK holiday, who supports affirmative action, and who supports voting rights."
I would venture to say Hillary Clinton supports the above correct? So if it's simply the party and not the person as you claim, why did black voters pull the lever overwhelmingly (80-90% in most states) for Obama, when Clinton espouses similar political ideals?
Be honest conundrum.

Conundrum, you are fooling yourself. Which of your three reasons for blacks voting for Obama are not true of Gore, Kerry or the Clintons? Blacks will vote in record numbers and overwhelmingly for Obama because he is black.
Personally, in their shoes, so would I.
I will vote for McCain because I am a Republican not because Obama is black. You guys suck for thinking otherwise. I tire of the constant race baiting.

Conundrum,
I really don't think Dan is a racist. He's just not too bright.
From his posts, he's shown that he has little depth and that puts him in constant struggle with what is right, and with the majority of folks who have little or no intellectual curiosity.
If one were to answer the questions, with honesty, listed in my earlier post, I believe one could see how racism works and how they have no idea they are doing it.
Certainly, I do not expect the bottom dwellers to admit it, nor do I expect the cerebrally ill-equipped to handle it. But hopefully, those who knock folks down to get to their pew on Sundays will stop and think about it---think about what it really says about all of us.

I have had no problem following Dan's logic in these posts and appreciate that he backs his opinions up with attached articles, etc.
Mick, I too am sooooo tired of the race card... but this blog has easily demonstrated that it is ALIVE and WELL, and being used to its full extent to get Obama votes!
(you're racist if you DON'T vote for him, and (yet)his skin color alone is A GOOD reason TO vote for him....) What a double sided coin!

Ms. Malone,

Interesting that you found the post script worthy of questioning, but never bothered to mention the others. Any particular reason? Strike a chord?
Posted on October 7, 2008 3:19 PM
If John McCain were black and Obama white, what percentage of the black turnout would go his way? I bet most blacks would still go for Obama, although probably not by as wide a margin.
But, people voted for George Bush because they thought they could have a beer with him. Biden and Palin both play up the fact that they're not far removed from 'Joe SixPack' and 'Hockey Moms.' I'm sure some blacks are voting for Obama just because he's black...these days it's all about how the candidate is 'one of us.'
Howeveeer, electing a black candidate could do a lot for this country just by virtue of his being black. Think about black children having a successful black man to look up to that isn't in the entertainment business. Remember the letter from WWII Vet about the black child that said he was going to be President one day?
Should that be the only reason? Probably not, but maybe this is some of what gave Obama an edge over Hillary. But it's not racist.
"I'm not voting for Obama only because he is black."
"I'm voting for Obama only because he is black."
Those are racist and I'm sure sure there's some small percentage of people that fit in those categories.

"When the birth certificate arrived from the Obama campaign it confirmed his name as the other documents already showed it. Still, we took an extra step: We e-mailed it to the Hawaii Department of Health, which maintains such records, to ask if it was real.
“It’s a valid Hawaii state birth certificate,” spokesman Janice Okubo told us."
"Because if this document is forged, then they all are."
"And there’s the rub. It is possible that Obama conspired his way to the precipice of the world’s biggest job, involving a vast network of people and government agencies over decades of lies. Anything’s possible.
But step back and look at the overwhelming evidence to the contrary and your sense of what’s reasonable has to take over.
There is not one shred of evidence to disprove PolitiFact’s conclusion that the candidate’s name is Barack Hussein Obama, or to support allegations that the birth certificate he released isn’t authentic.
And that’s true no matter how many people cling to some hint of doubt and use the Internet to fuel their innate sense of distrust."
I know that's copy and paste, but I wanted to give it to you without a filter.

Dan,
Try thinking before you touch a key pad!
Black people in these United Snakes Of America historically vote Democratic. If Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas ran for President of this country he would probably get very few votes among blacks. That probably goes for any so call Black conservative that forgot his roots.
Bill Clinton, who is WHITE got a large percentage of the black vote in both terms he ran for president. So, this thing goes a little bit deeper than race.

That in mind, to humor you, I will answer your questions:

No, libcon not against reading at all. In fact I LOVE IT!!!... just don't have a career that allows me to blog on my favorite websites all day long.... Maybe YOU are the jealous one.... of those that actually have INTERESTING work and stay busy at work, doing work!!! Secondly: "Ms. Malone, Did you feel the least bit uncomfortable when you thought about the questions I posted above? Why did the P.S. bother you? Interesting that you found the post script worthy of questioning, but never bothered to mention the others. Any particular reason? Strike a chord?"
Answer: No, I didn't feel uncomfortable-- still don't-- and No,it didn't strike a cord..... I just didn't have a lot of time. Besides, you just stole the idea from hugh, who inserted his Rep. (Palin) into what Biden said in the article that Dan posted early a.m. (which, btw, did not end up as the enlightening piece you just knew it would be when you posted it). Try reading my post first and then look in the mirror regarding the key pad bit.
My point that you, conundrum, et. al. conveniently miss is the following:
I'm not debating that more blacks vote for the Democratic party candidates, that is a given. More blacks will vote for Obama than McCain, that is a given.
Conundrum tried the exact same thing and you struck out too Myron. Leave out Republicans for a minute.
My question is this Myron, if race isn't a primary factor in the voting patterns of black people, rather the Democratic party is as you and conundrum infer, please tell me why 80-90% of blacks voted for Obama over fellow DEMOCRAT Hillary Clinton (91% in MS) in the primaries? Leave out the Republicans, I'm talking Obama vs. Hillary Clinton.

Thank you for providing SOMETHING related to what I was asking for rahrah. Even that link mentions Hillary lost 9-1 among black voters and states she could have only lost 4-1 or 3-1, both of which are still wide margins.
My bottom line is this, the letter writer laments one personal encounter in which two white people agree they wouldn't vote for a black man. Hell I'll even venture out and guess there are many more like them.
To be fair, the letter writer and others like conundrum and myron should admit that many black voters are voting for Obama partly if not primarily because he is black. The stats from the Obama/Clinton primaries lay the case.
That's all.

As far as I know, he hasn't denied the fact that he's half white. He often talks about his mother and grandparents and it's generally known that they were/are white. He shouldn't have to play it up. There should be no playing of it.
Either way, John McCain hasn't claimed or played up his 'Caucasian ancestry.' Does this trouble you?

Fairytales are on the disney channel. There will always be race issues in the US and world.
I see 2 sets of people running for President/Vice President and neither a winning team. It has nothing to do with black and white, man or woman.
You have to decide within yourself who you think would be the best team without regard to what you think about their race or gender
This should be one of the most important elections for president in a long while. Watch the debates, cut the TV's off on the negative ads, clear your thoughts and go with what your heart tells you to do. Just dont sit there and not vote.
