Why favor one culture?

UNC-Chapel Hill has long favored African American studies over the studies of other ethnic groups that make up the entire student body. As an African American and UNC-CH graduate, I’ve seen the university pander to the baseless cries of black students concerning notions of racism.

When will the UNC system stop investing capital, intellectual or otherwise, in the study of one culture over another? The university’s rich heritage surely does not need African American studies to continue to be best university in America. UNC-CH should support all cultures, not the whining of a vocal minority.

As long as political correctness exists, never.

hehe, I noticed that too rahrah.

But I gave the writer the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to a typo at the N&R. Otherwise they may have put (sic) in there to clarify it wasn't them.

Dan,
As opposed to UNC-Chapel Hill, how are things done at YOUR alma mater, UNCG?
Just wondering if you kept up with your own university? : )

The Keating Five documentary is rising in YouTube popularity...! A new generation is learning about corruption at the highest levels, and about Charles Keating's two best friends, John and Cindy McCain.
It's morning in America!

How Racism Works:

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said 'I do' to? What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire?

With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background:

Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in
International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain: United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

Palin: Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire ?

PS: What if Barack Obama had an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

If the Democrats are pushing the proposition that John McCain was corrupted by the Charles Keating, you must also acknowledge that John Glenn was equally corrupted, since he was swept up in the scandal as well. John Glenn is an honored hero of America. Are we to slime his reputation as well?

I notice John Glenn is part of the sainted Obama campaign. Where are your little smarta$$ coments now?

At least not in football, although the ECU win was impressive.

Basketball, never mind.

“When will the UNC system stop investing capital, intellectual or otherwise, in the study of one culture over another?” Mr. Mack, you are missing an important point. African American Studies was not created to disparage other ethnic groups or ethnic studies. The programs at Harvard, Princeton, Temple, UW-Madison and other colleges/universities don’t exist for that purpose. The programs are in place to document the African American Diaspora. A good example of why they exist, can be found in the comment by JPRT. The programs in some instances, can dispel ignorance that exists towards African Americans, and in some cases as with JPRT, no amount of education can remedy ignorance and hatred.

A 1951 court order forced UNC-CH to admit black undergrads. Four years later, the school eventually admitted the students. In the history of this country, most substantial acts of integration came about as a result of a legal decree.

Even a conservative African American such as Condoleezza Rice has touched on America’s “birth defect.” If this “birth defect” didn’t exist, African American Studies would not be needed. But, you can’t rewrite history. And, I am quite certain that despite your protest, that UNC-CH’s African American Studies will continue. You should look for a better outlet for your disagreement with UNC’s policy. Ward Connerly has championed anti-affirmative action legislation. You could do the same with African American Studies. Good luck with that one!

Conundrum,
Once again, you have hit the nail square on the head. Woe be to those who see but still do not believe.

Oak Ridge Runner,
You are like a broken record, so let's get one thing straight: John Glenn is no longer a United States Senator. Got it? Understand it? He paid the ultimate "political" price for being introduced to Charles Keating by John McCain.

You also said recently that you knew of another governor from a small state who had done pretty well for himself.
(Comparing Clinton to Palin)

WAKE UP EINSTEIN!
Bill Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar!!!
Palin is a moron. Ever compare her courses to the courses taken and passed, at the highest levels, by Clinton? Unlike Palin, he liked to read.

You always do your "hit and run" posts so I do not expect anything in response
