Obama now must end any racial preferences
Well, now that we have our first black president, let us hope that his first “changes” will be the correcting of the blind eye the government had been taking to the racist and discriminatory organizations that have populated the landscape since the late-1970’s.
First to go should be the Congressional Black Caucus, a blight on the Constitution since its inception. Then, every other organization that exists solely for the benefit of African American members.
Somewhere in there should be the dismantling of affirmative action and federal support to historically black colleges and universities.
Obama’s call for change was supported by a rainbow populace. He should be proud. Jesse Jackson should be proud. We should all be proud.
He can show us he deserves the support we gave him by being the president of all American citizens — and by removing these vestiges of racial preference.
If electing Obama our president doesn’t show that we have moved beyond these special interests, then we have not moved very far at all. And if he does nothing to dismantle these discriminatory organizations, then we have supported a man who has only just begun the failures of his historic presidency.

... and if he do so something to dismantle these "discriminatory organizations", it would be in violation of the Constitution.
.. note how the LTE writer focuses on Black "discriminatory organizations" .. no mention of the KKK which is allowed, or The American Nazi Party, or The National Alliance, or The National Socialist Vanguard .. or .. well how about this alternative list:

Golly Len,
Would you like a little cheese with that whine?
I think that you are probably right that the conversation between the races have been irrevocably altered but celebrate what has happened instead of being whiny and bitter.

Folks, always remember you can't fix stupid...Blacks are only 12 percent of our population. Why do you fear and hate them so much? Since Obama is half white, why am I not one of "his people"? These comments come from people who accuse blacks of voting for Obama only because he is black...
My daughter said her she was at her hair dressers and one stylist had a watermelon plant and made a "I be yo new President" comment. Interesting that a hair stylist makes fun of a Harvard Law graduate and thinks she is better just because she is white.
We have come a long way, baby, but we have a long way to go. I am truly proud that America and North Carolina chose a black man.

Peterman Reality-most serial killers are white men. How about all the guys killing their wives, many pregnant..mostly white! And the biggest crime of all...the Wall Street debacle? I would say ALL Americans were just held up for millions. What was the percentage of blacks involved in that crime? And their punishment to date? Million dollar bonuses! Glad you found those hold ups though. Their hold ups will never amount the amount of money this entire country was just robbed of...

Great comments, Carol and right on!
I had to go back and re-read this ltte after the comments to make sure I understood. I am someone who believes in equal rights, not special rights. I don't believe certain colleges should receive extra funding JUST because they are "black" colleges. Just as this mess out in San Francisco regarding the JR ROTC in the schools. Gays find this offensive? What about the students right to participate.
It seems to me the ltte is pointing out government money to back "black" groups. Does the government also back "white" groups? "gay" groups? If so, thats poor governing IMHO.
Its all about equality!

“He can show us he deserves the support we gave him by being the president of all American citizens — and by removing these vestiges of racial preference.” Mr. Docimo, these vestiges of racial preference were created because of the racial preference that benefited whites. Sen. Obama’s win does not mean that we no longer need the NAACP, HBCUs, the Congressional Black Caucus and the NMA. Sen. Obama’s win is definitely a tremendous sign of progress, but, it is far from being a panacea for race relations as evidenced by this little blurb in the Dallas News.

Should we assume there's no more hatred and racism in Amerikkka since we have a Black President elect? I see the hatred and fear of a Blackplanet in some of your comments.
When that son of a Bush stole the election in 2000 I was told to 'GET OVER IT" and I did because I had no choice. I suggest some of you do the same.
It's ridiculous to suggest that groups and certain organizations that guard against racism and bigotry should disband.
