Shame on Dole, Hagan for campaign tactics
By the time this is published the election will be over. One will be a political winner, both will be losers in my opinion and that of many voters who are simply sick of smear and fear ads such as last week’s by Dole implying that Hagan is an atheist. Shame on both of them.
Dole: For appealing to the lowest common denominator in our society through fear and stretching the truth to the point of lying.
Hagan: For filing a lawsuit instead of just appearing in front of your church with your pastor who could vouch for your participation in your church over many years. I suppose filing a lawsuit, whether it is because your child did not receive the grade in school you thought should have been awarded or you think your political opponent has “defamed” you, is now an American birthright.
For goodness sakes, use your time to discuss the serious issues that confront this country.

.. maybe.
I had planned to vote Libertarian for this position, but the brashness of Dole's last ad caused me to support Fibber Kay. Fibber was bad enough but Godless was beyond the pail. It backfired, Libby.
Now Jerry - I don't know you reaction, but there are several within this blog whom if I were to publicly call "Godless", I'm sure they would sue me - even though they are "conservatives" that preach limited government. It's just one more case where on issues that concern them they want g-men; on issues that don't concern them they want no g-men.
Signed, the broken (but accurate) record.

Liddy was soundly spanked for her ad. Now, hopefully, we have someone to represent us in DC who will bring home some of that Kansas bacon...wouldn't THAT be poetic justice?
I wanna new Tahoe.
Praise be to Allah.

Jerry,
While I agree there are many frivolous lawsuits that clog the court system, I do not believe everything is fair in love, war and politics. Had Dole said to a friend that Hagan was atheist and Hagan overheard it, then filed a lawsuit, I would say it was foolish. But Dole said it to the whole world. The claim deserves to be challenged in our court system.
If more lawsuits were filed regarding the tactics used to try to win a position, perhaps more politicians would realize there is a price to pay for their lies. As it is right now, there is no accountability or responsibility for saying and doing what they please. Sort of like a Friday night free-for-all at the local bar where words, fists and booze are the law of the land. They all go home afterwards and wait til the next Friday to do it all over again, only politicians wait til the next election.
In my opinion, this is not what and who the majority of Americans want representing them (as proven by the recent election).

Amen Jerry!
I'm glad the ad blew up in Dole's face, but Hagan's lawsuit is frivolous.

"Hagan's lawsuit is frivolous."
Not only that, but insulting. Why would she need to sue for 'defamation' at being called an Atheist? It isn't a crime, or a bad thing to be an atheist! Immediately calling the ad's accusation defaming only insults we godless Americans. I hadn't heard about her lawsuit until after I voted early, and if I had before, I would have voted libertarian...

If I were on that jury, the words "fibber Kay" could not stop going through my mind. LMAO~~
Dole gets my respect if not for anything BUT that line.
They both acted like teenagers in high school.
Fibber Kay better get to Washington and represent like there IS intelligent life in Greensboro where at least, she has lived.

I saw the ad and I first thought they just took Hagan's statement (There is no GAWDDD!) out of context. Turned out, she wasn't even the one who said it.
So, I think the ad was misleading beyond a doubt and could have been done in a much better manner.
However, the truth of the ad is that Hagan DID take money from the Godless Americans.
I heard her asked 5 times whether she took the money and she would not answer. Even after the questioner said she was avoiding the question.
That is answer enough that she did take the money.
I would have respected Hagan much more if she just told what happened and stated that she had no idea the guy who handed her the check represented such an organization.
I agree with Slaan that maybe being an atheist or "godless" shouldn't necessarily be considered a slur.
I think the real reason Dole wasn't re-elected is because she hasn't really done much for NC during the 6 years she was in office. Additionally, there was a huge democrat turnout for Obama. I think that was the reason Bev Perdue escaped with a win.
