The election of Obama is a high point for nation
My wife and I viewed the historic election results with friends from different walks of life. We watched the rebirth of America and saw an America that has crossed a huge barrier, an America that gives an equal chance to everyone who was born under its flag, regardless of name or ethnic background or creed.
At that defining moment in history, when the major networks announced the election of a half-black African American as president of this great country, tears ran from my wife’s eyes as well as from mine. True tears of happiness, which was shared by most of those present. I felt pride in the country that I have chosen to live in. I felt hope for the future of my children and grandchildren.
As a naturalized citizen, I held my head high, as did all my friends who were there.
Happy rebirth day, America. And congratulations on a great choice of leader who will, by God’s will, guide our country to prosperity and peace and regain for it the respect and leadership it once held.
May God bless you and bless this great nation.

Fox News is planning a five part series commemorating the upcoming anniversary of the Lewinsky scandal...just as a reality check.

Neocon:
That sounds about right coming from Fox News. A reality check now? What's the point? The election is over and a democrat won. So,the point would ibe to cause more hostility and division in the nation, nothing else...

A half black African-American? Where do people come up with this stuff?
Posted on November 12, 2008 7:55 AM
Dan- guess that would make him more black than white which I would imagine is how some prefer to see him.... although incorrect.

As usual, neo misses the significance of the election and chooses to change the subject. Glad to see that his one cheerleader just ignores him this time, choosing to deride another part of this letter.

More of an alternate reality check.

The Lewinski series is the first in a multitude of documentaries in the works from Fox News. There are also plans to revisit Chappaquiddick, never seen before footage of the swift boat vets, and images from the Iranian hostage crisis era with the reverend Jeremiah Wright providing the sound track.
It's a public service provided by Roger Ailes to help those of us in exile survive inauguration day. The general consensus is after that there will be no need to delve into the archives, we'll go live and on location.

No one noticed your little smiley face on the first post Neo. A mere mention of FNC and the blogdragons start breathing fire. You need to put disclaimers in all caps, lest they take everything at word.
Perhaps FNC could run a series explaining what a half black African-American is. : ]
True news, Glenn Beck left the dismal failure that is CNN and joined FNC. Musta been difficult for a conservative to survive with Larry King.

Dan,
Since you and neo seem to be all consumed with right wing media, I had to laugh today when Rush Limbaugh began blaming Obama for the recession. He earned his moniker of "comedian" with that rant, but it does indicate a disconnect with reality. Guess, like Palin, he exists in some parallel universe.
The problems we now face are ominous, and it's very obvious that "W" checked out months ago. Guess when he lets GM go under, Rush will claim that was Obama's fault.
(For the brain dead: Obama does not take office until January 20th 2009)

Sometimes I think that conservatives want to have it both ways. Call Obama African American or black and they complain, "Why don't people remember that he's half white?" The LTE writer correctly calls Obama a half-black African American , and a conservative blogger derides, "Where do people come up with this stuff?"
As you know, African American is the current terminology for anyone with any African ancestors. It has taken over from Afro-American and the "N" word. Back in the day, it didn't matter that 15 of your great-great-grandparents were white, if you had 1 who was black, legally you were an "N." The term has changed; the common usage remains the same.
To use another prominent figure as an example, Tiger Woods is almost exclusively referred to as African American even though he could just as legitimately be called Asian American.

Glad you are listening to Rush Demon Deacon. I've been too busy making money to listen lately.
Obama has been wonderful for the economy, that is if you are in the business of making and selling guns.

BTW, I don't blame Obama for the recession.
Beadbabe,
Obama is oft referred to as a black man, I agree. I've never complained that he is half white, dig through the archives if you wish, you won't find it. In fact I don't really care what color he is as I don't see people via the prism of their race. My response was in reference to the ridiculous term "half black African-American".
Using the same terminology would make me a half Irish European American.
"As you know, African American is the current terminology for anyone with any African ancestors."
Yeah but it's not factually correct. In case you didn't know there are white people born in Africa with ancestors there. I met some last year while in Tanzania. If one of said people moves here and becomes an American citizen does that make him/her an African American? Their children?
Screw all this hyphen-American business, it's divisive. We are all Americans.

Dan, I knew the reference to Fox News would be a titty twister to the liberals. Sooo predictable.
Half black AND African American. There ought to be something in that phrase to get offended over.
A black co-worker who is 53 years old and this was the first time he ever voted. I asked him who he voted for and he said "Obama of course". I asked him why and he replied "Because he is for the little man and will finally stick it to the fat cats of this country".
This is what liberalism, with it's big gun, class envy, has produced. A fairly large segment of society that hates the risk takers and innovators to the point that they are blind to the fact that they depend on them for their paychecks. I wonder how many millions of times this serrano played out last Tuesday?
Posted on November 12, 2008 10:26 PM
At least your co-worker didn't say he was voting for Obama because he's a half black African American.
Posted on November 12, 2008 10:31 PM
neo,
I am as white as the day is long and I, too, want to see Obama "stick it to the fat cats" who have stolen billions of tax dollars and squandered it. No class envy here, just a gut full of crooks who call themselves men of God while robbing us blind. I envy no on because God has blessed me beyond words. And I might add, beyond such pettiness.

Relax Yvonne, your man is on His way to Pennsylvania ave. If He is a man of His word, the fat cats are about to pay through the nose. (along with the innovators/risk takers who create jobs for 'the little man'.
But I'll be honest with you...I don't think the 'fat cats' you have in mind will have their business disrupted one iota. In fact, I have a feeling they will get fatter and fatter under the little messiaah's reign.

Yvonne,
. "A day after being elected president and acknowledging 'the worst financial crisis in a century,' Barack Obama asked one of the biggest recipients of Wall Street campaign contributions to be his chief of staff. Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the Illinois congressman who was an aide in the Clinton White House, was the top House recipient in the 2008 election cycle of contributions from hedge funds, private equity firms and the larger securities/investment industry -- not the most popular of industries in the current economy. Since being elected to Congress in 2002, after working as an investment banker, Emanuel has received more money from individuals and PACs in the securities and investment business than any o ther industry." (Center For Responsive Politics Web Site, http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/11/obamas-pick-for-chief-of-staff.html, Accessed 11/6/08)
Yessiree, not ALL of the fat cats will be stuck, that's for sure...
