As Thanksgiving neared, thieves took from family

Is this the season for giving or taking? The Tuesday night before Thanksgiving our vehicles were invaded in our driveway in a well-lit area of our property.

Taken were the necessities needed for a nice family road trip for a Thanksgiving-long weekend: my navigation system and cash. From my wife’s vehicle, her pocketbook.

Within the hour the “Thankstaking” bandits had used my wife’s debit card in Greensboro. Within six hours, it had been used in South Carolina, then Georgia.

I guess they were heading to grandmother’s house in Florida.

I am so glad these thieves were able to enjoy themselves courtesy of our personal property and cash. Regardless of our shock and sadness at our losses and the time it takes to cancel, renew and reapply for all the things imaginable in my wife’s pocketbook, we were not going to let it ruin our holiday.

Citizens of Greensboro, beware this holiday season, for it is not just for giving but unfortunately also for the taking.

why would you leave cash and a pocketbook in your vehicle unattended in the first place? When you do that you are inviting a thief to take from you. Learn from the experience and don't leave valuables in your car even in your own driveway.

I concur with noname. Why do half the crime reports sound something like this "purse taken from unlocked car" or "tools taken from unlocked shed"? I am not excusing the thief but some simple steps would go a long way in reducing crime of this nature. I even lock my car when it is in the garage.

troy, i hate to hear you were encroached upon, looted and plundered and then have to hear from the two idiots above. i know in your prime you could have handled them all and then handle the two nameless jerks who posted above. Locks and security devices only work on honest people as yourself. Keep doing what I know you do for people and the world will be a better place. Thanks for the warning. We all need reminding every now and then. Youre the kind of person who will get it all back, if thats what you want.

So Chucka, you feel that people should do nothing to reduce crime? That leaving pocketbooks and cash in your car is a smart thing to do?

I do not excuse the thief, what they did was wrong, and if caught should be dealt the full extent of the law.

But a little common sense might have had the thief move onto an easier target.
