Hamas missile attacks justify Israeli response
David Pauly’s letter (“U.S. support for Israel embarrasses Americans”) and your choice to publish it are interesting. He claims that Israel is a larger terrorist organization than any named by the United States. I’m sure his initiative (and yours) are born of the recent Israeli attempt to put an end to missile attacks by invading Gaza, where the missiles are launched. Is that terrorism?
If Summerfield were hit by an ongoing onslaught of missiles from the democratically elected leaders of Browns Summit, would Mr. Pauly not be willing to fight back?
He goes on, “If Israel had not stolen the land it occupies, there would be no violence.” His hypocrisy is inescapable considering that surely he realizes land he occupies belongs to Native Americans.

That you for speaking up for us bred indians.
They put us on reservations and the liberal press, did not utter one word about our civil rights. Yet they raise hell about the terrorist that want to blow your butts off, about violating their civil rights.
I see Obama, who was pro Israel, before the election has now turned pro Hamas according to the media.

I'll be honest.
I've never really understood why the United States so faithfully supports Israel. I'd love to have it explained to me in a balanced sort of way.
Personally, I'm not too impressed with the way either of the players in this conflict operate. I'll say that, if I were a Palestinian, I might have a hard time accepting mediation from the US considering the obvious lack of neutrality.

Mr. Schorr, please do yourself a favor and read the book by Former President Jimmy Carter, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. It describes his efforts to broker peace and how the Israeli's continually found ways to create a new uprising. It will document for you the regional problems dating back to the war of 1946 with Egypt. And then the occupation of Palastinian land in 1967. If they would pull their boarders back to what they had in 1967, there would be peace. Read and learn! Finally, in 2005, Ariel Sharon entered a mosque in disrespect of the Muslim religon which started the seige with Yaser Arafat. Ariel sharon was also charged with war crimes by the UN! Pres. Bush invited him to the White House.
Please read up on the issues before having such a narrow mind. My comments are not about just the current situation. Thank You! I am proud to be an American, just don't approve of our government decision.

David, it seems odd that you'd just write "And then the occupation of Palastinian (sic) land in 1967" without noting what prompted it. Or don't you know?
Hints for anyone who'd like to "read and learn!"-
Iraq
Jordan
Syria
Egypt
(backed by Russia, which addresses rahrah's question a bit)
Israel
Six days
Khartoum Resolution ("no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with it...")
Selective retelling of history does little to actually further learning or help discussions, David. Unless you're only telling what you've been taught. I guess that would prove my point as well. Perhaps better.

rahrah, I don't know where I could point you to quickly learn more. Oren's "Six Days of War" is a decent start since it doesn't let either side off the hook. I doubt I'd suggest Carter's book alone (what's his motive?), but maybe JDR would have some other suggestions.
