Kennedy’s poor speech diminishes her appeal

Your article on Caroline Kennedy’s speech patterns (Dec. 31) was most interesting. If Sarah Palin had shown such inability to put together six sentences without using the idiot phrase, “you know,” the media would have drummed her out of the human race.

Four people of some note tried to justify Caroline’s inability to speak properly, and five examples were given of other famous people’s speech oddities as an attempt to downplay her lack of speaking ability. She is a graduate of the Harvard Law School. Surely it taught her to speak properly.

And she wants to be a U.S. senator!

I'm not defending her, but public speaking is an art that requires practice. MOST of us fill the gaps with aaa's and ya know's and like's.

I'd be more interested in her "policies" but being a Kennedy we probably know them already, and besides, Congress needs fewer career or dynasty members.

No surprises here about the media bias, John. After all, we're talking about the same folks who chastised Bush for his working out 'while neglecting the business of the country' and yet we are treated to vivid descriptions of the little messiah's rock hard pecs glistening in the sun and shaped by rigorous workouts'.

They have no shame.

Nary a peep of criticism for 'sweet Caroline' will we hear from those who dragged Palin through the mud for her media manufactured miscues when she spoke. The same people will bow down before a Kennedy and praise her 'ability to connect to the common person'. Now they will be more interested in her 'policies'...which will be exactly what the democrats tell her it will be.

The hypocricy is sickening. But this, too, is nothing new.

Neo - with all respect, your dismissal of earnest and intelligent discourse is sickening.

I take it you have no problem with the media's pom-pom shaking for the little messiah, while deriding Bush for the same thing?...of course you don't.

Try some Pepto Bismol...sometimes it helps me, but it can't overcome a 10 minute session of the talking cockroach, Keith Olbermann.

You know uh, I think uh, we, you know need a senator who you know can work for the uh workers who uh you know need us to you know help them. That's why you know uh uh I'd, you know work hard in the uh Senate.

And to think that anyone would seriously contemplate this woman in the Senate.

Caroline Kennedy probably has the same amount of global knowledge. At least Miss SC doesn't say 'you know' twice in every sentence and is much easier on the eye.

You betcha John Taylor and Neo are correct about the double standard in the media. Any SNL skits on Kennedy yet?

It seems this particular seat is awarded by name recognition. Hillary Rodham would have never won it, but add Clinton to the end of the name and that makes all the difference.

"You betcha John Taylor and Neo are correct about the double standard in the media."

Well I don't watch much .. but the coverage I've seen is all abour her "You Knows" .. which hardly feels like the lame-stream is giving her a free pass.

Neo - why don't you produce a Dec. 2000 or Jan 2001 link showing the media deriding Bush (articles about the election controversy do not count). THEN I'll attach some credibility to your post.

JDR a glowing CNN article on Kennedy:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/29/kennedy.senate/index.html

And a CNN article on Palin:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/25/palin.tension/

Can you see a difference? I could spend all day doing this but gotta go spend some time with the family.

you're full of baloney, Dan - or reading what you want into what may not be there.

The glowing CNN article on Kennedy says " ... some are questioning whether she's ready ... " The rest is mostly her talking about her and a discussion of name recognition .. kinda like George Bush getting the nod in 2000 over Jeb Bush (a personal theory).

While the other CNN article is "McCain sources say ... " and "Palin adviser[s]" and "Her lack of fundamental understanding of some key issues was dramatic," said another McCain source " ... "Yet another senior McCain adviser lamented ... " So CNN is ruled by McCain sources?

Dan [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Look no further than the titles JDR:

"Caroline Kennedy says she's best for the job"

versus

"Palin's 'going rogue,' McCain aide says"

I am always skeptical when unnamed sources, aides, advisers, etc. are cited as fact.

Enjoy the fantasy world my friend. You betcha I'll check in later today.

"If my last name was not Kennedy, maybe I would have run for office a long time ago,"
Sweet Caroline (from the above link)

Perhaps she should have run under her married name 'Schlossberg', then, uh... you know, there would have been no, uh... you know, any appearances of, uh... you know, any favors, and uh... you know, any accusations of uh...you know, using the old Camelot/Kennedy name in order to add another rubber stamp to Dirty Harry and the socialists' agenda.

cRock-o-...feller, show me a Dec.2000 or Jan. 2001 link where the smitten media was agog with Bush's 'pecs glistening in the sun'?

We peons do not have the right to question the of succession of political royalty.

.. that's not what you said, Neo .. you said they were "deriding Bush for the same thing" .. and since Obama is enjoying a holiday before assuming the presidency .. show me where the media was "deriding Bush" for enjoying a holiday before assuming the presidency.

Of course you can't 'cause your basic premise is pure crap.

Throw a rock over the fence, the one that yells, is the one it hits.
Keep up the good work Neo and Dan.

Uh, no. I don't believe that is what I said. I said the smitten media was all agog with the little messiah's workout regime and the body it produced for them, while Bush's workouts 'bordered on creepy'.

Bush workouts= 'creepy'
little mesiah workouts= 'chiseled pecs glistening in the sunlight'.

LOL! Your twisting of this is laughable.

But go ahead and pat yourself on the back. Makes no difference to me. You'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind (or willfully ignorant...this is my guess) not to see the media bias taking place.

You know, it's uh kinda like you know fun to watch you know uh what's his name er, you know JDR believe that, you know he uh you know thinks the media are well you know unbiased.

A seat in IL is for sale to the highest bidder, another in NY is for sale to a family name. I hope Gov. Paterson has the balls to say no and appoint someone better qualified.

As for Obama's pecs, you betcha they give me a tingle up my legs.
