Swim center approval was won on deception
I find it sad indeed that the people of Greensboro are not asking for the resignations of those members of the Parks and Recreation Commission who scammed residents out of $12 million. The third time was not the charm, but a well-orchestrated smoke-and-mirrors campaign to repackage the swim center and bury it in the greater park plan. By their own admission, they were proud of how they disguised the real purpose of the bond and duped the voters. Voters like parks, but a swim center isn’t a park.
And shame on city executives for saddling us with another load of debt, all for the benefit of a few. The voters turned it down twice. What part of no don’t you understand?

Same rule applies in my post in the sweepstakes letter:
"As long as stupid people exist, others will come up with schemes to exploit them."

Steve,
The problem with your letter is that it lacks truth. You used Allen Johnson's theory and tales of conspiracy for your argument. This has more to do with Mr. Johnson's ego than it does about the community, desires of the citizens and hopes of improvement. We realized this along time ago. He conveniently lopped another bomb for the new year by posting this old letter to the editor. Oh, the power of a dying breed!

I didn't know the pool was in the parks and rec bond. I might have voted yes anyway, but truth is I had no idea it was there. I do believe there was deception in this bond.
But, true or not, there is an answer. Circulate a petition to repeal the bond. If the voters really do want to axe this pool, they'll sign the petition.

Why are you writing a LTE to a paper no one reads. This is obvious, for if they had read this paper, the Rhino Times, Yes!Weakly, any number of blogs or watched any local news or perhaps even (GASP!) read the bond descriptions.... you would have known about the swim center. It was certainly discussed within the N&R bolg sites ad nauseum.
Panacea, you didnt read what you voted for or any of the MANY articles, editorials, endorsements, numerous blog posts on numerous blogs (such as say... this one)? Brave of you to admit that I must say.
I think the P&R bond passed by the widest of margins in the bond package folks. Get a grip. It wasnt HIDDEN. There was no DECEPTION.
There were no secret meetings about clandestine 12 million dollar projects. Sheesh.
As we speak/type both Smith and Grimsley have been closed for a week or so for repairs/updates. Grimsley for the second time in a few weeks. Lindley is in need of some repair and could use a major overhaul. There was/is no BS involved.
Who says a pool is not a park? Not the people of Greensboro! Bur Mil is a park and has a pool. Guess who owns and operates that?!
