Did Tiger Woods help pave way for Obama?

Tiger Woods was instrumental in the election of Barack Obama. There are remarkable similarities in both men. They are tall, handsome and athletic with wide, toothy smiles. Both are smart and well-spoken. Both are biracial ... family men with high moral standards untainted by scandal ... highly motivated, goal-oriented. Both are respected worldwide.

Tiger Woods conquered a white man’s sport. Americans saw Tiger, the man, and not his race. They liked what they saw. Tiger earned the respect and admiration of all.

Now here comes Barack Obama, presidential candidate. Undoubtedly, he had the qualifications, the oratory and a message to transform America.

That wasn’t enough. At first, he didn’t have enough white support to close the deal.

But Tiger Woods before him had cracked open that door to white America — the door that is tightly closed to so many. Tiger greased the way for Obama to open that door wide. Maybe it was easier for Tiger’s fans to embrace Obama because Obama had many of the same traits as their hero. Sometimes people react for odd reasons.

Maybe it was subliminal. Nonetheless, that white vote was crucial. Meet the new voting bloc: golfers, the true “swing” vote.

One key difference, Tiger Woods doesn't have the power to confiscate my grandchildren's money before they are even born.

I'm soooooo glad liberals are colorblind when it comes to race, lest they look at people and the first thing they see is the color of their skin.

I don't think Tiger Woods was ashamed of his country while accumulating his fortune and I don't think he looked at government as the solution to all of society's ills. I think his father (he actually had one that hung around) taught him that anything was possible in America with commitment and hard work. The lesson from hope and change?..."government is your ticket to prosperity'.

"Tiger Woods was instrumental in the election of Barack Obama." No, he wasn't.

"Americans saw Tiger, the man, and not his race." No, Americans saw Tiger's money. And when money and African Americans are involved, money trumps some white America's inability to get over race. Oprah, Michael Jordan and even OJ, were given entree into that stratosphere of being okay by white standards. There were other black golfers before Tiger. Calvin Peete and Lee Elder never enjoyed the financial rewards that have benefitted Tiger Woods. If they did not have to play on segregated courses, Calvin Peete and Lee Elder might have accomplished what Tiger has in terms of tournament wins. But, as Mr. Roseman alluded to in his LTE, "Tiger conquered a white man's sport." And, I think that Tiger appeased a lot of whites when he described himself as a "Caublanasian." I always found it interesting that he started the description with "Cau." Because when you look at Tiger's appearance, you see the "bla" and you see the "nasian." As Charles Barkley said to him, "Tiger, the death threats are being sent to the black part of you."

Just pick a subject and you can find many similarities between most, if that is what you seek to find. Take a rose and a camilla. Both are pretty, fragrant, have many uses, are multi-leafed, come in many different varieties and have been "cross-bred" for centuries.

Closer examination reveals there are stark differences also. It is all a matter of how one chooses to see things, a matter of one's own interpretation.

Take some on this blog as an example. They choose to see black and associate it with negative thoughts. I see black and think of it as a color in a box of crayons. It is neither better than the rest nor worse than the rest. A black tree might be unappealing but so would a white tree. It is all a matter of perspective.

with the cigarette smoking and other bad habit leanings, wouldn't Barack compare more favorably to John Daly?

John Daly never would've married an orangutan with a wig on...

rbennet [TypeKey Profile Page] said:

Daly has a bit of a divorce (or marriage, perhaps) habit though, so credit to Obama for sticking with it.

Tiger still trumps, but credit where credit is due.

PS- Sorry for the double post, but I left something out and almost might've seemed like I agreed. The orangutan comment was uncalled for. I might not be able to find hardly anything that I agree with Obama about and he might worry me regarding the direction he's taking our republic, but love and commitment is important and I respect his, his marriage, and his fatherhood.

First, Spanish and English should be capitalized. And marginally was misspelled. If you don’t know these fundamentals of English, you might not want to use education as a topic to belittle people.

I am thankful Christine

Molene,

it is just so nice to know that bigotry is alive and well in this area. You are really dangerous. I hope you are not a doctor or in any job that might require you work with another person. You really border on being a nut case.
