A wonderful tribute
When there is so much that is negative in the world, it’s very refreshing to look around and see something good. The Greensboro Police Department certainly meets this criterion. Not only do officers daily put their lives on the line for our citizens, but recently the care and compassion of a group of sworn and non-sworn personnel within the department were evident. They purchased and planted a holly tree in memory of a beautiful 18-year-old girl who lost her battle with leukemia last May. The tree was placed at the substation on South Elm/Eugene Street.
Many in the department knew Holly and were very supportive of her and her family during a very difficult time. What a wonderful tribute by an exceptional group of people!

Yes, I suppose that was a nice tribute, so what!! That little act does not really reflect the mindset of the police dept. Many of our "finest" are incompentent and prejudice, they have laid blame where blame is not due (David Wray) and covered up more inconsistancies than any of you can ever imagine.
I feel for Holly's family and wish them the best in the future.

Outspoken....Why did you feel the need to take such a nice comment that was written about a wonderful act of kindness and turn it into yet another slap in the face to the many that are in the dept that have nothing to do with the all the controversy surrounding the PD? The letter was written by the grandmother of the beautiful teenager that lost her battle to leukemia. A group of officers both sworn and non-sworn were the most supportive group of people to this family while this child literally fought for her life. When you say "many of our finest are incompetent and prejudice" what you are forgetting is that..... MANY ARE NOT! Before you comment on something you know nothing about, remember that this girls family may be reading this. Her death is still very vivid and fresh for them and to have you try to smear a wonderful gesture is yet another slap in the face of those that lost this incredible girl... I should know..... I'm her mother.

bookkeeper: first of all I would like to offer my condolances, it is a most difficult thing to loose a child, been there myself, twice.
Please don't pay any attention to outspoken he/she has a tendency to be,.... well, outspoken and often rubs people the wrong way. This forum is full of insult artists.
I think that the "Holly" tree was a nice remembrance, is there a plaque also? if not there should be.

"many of our finest are incompetent and prejudice" what you are forgetting is that..... MANY ARE NOT!
BUT MANY ARE!
Until the GPD and city council decide to get rid of the troublemakers and those who are incompetent within the GPD, you can expect to hear more of these comments. The only way to get rid of the smell is to get rid of the garbage.
My thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Holly also.

Could we as a community just water this new beautiful holly tree for the first year of its young life? In a few years it will grew tall and strong creating berries our winter birds survive on in our winters. This tree is a new life to be nurtured and cared for. I hope Mitch doesn't run over it at the Kitchen Center backing out of his parking lot. The child honored with the love and care of her family deserves our best wishes. Not our battle with lawsuits.

" I hope Mitch doesn't run over it at the Kitchen Center , backing out of his parking lot" Eloise, your comment had me until I got to that sentence, I'm assuming you are directing that little jab to Mitch Johnson, you just lost all credibilty with me, lawsuits or petty insulting drudgery, neither is commendable.

This isn't about the PD, Mitch, lawsuits, or anything else other than a wonderful tribute made to what appears to be a wonderful young girl. If you would take the time and go to the website the child's mother posted, you will see what a hard battle it appears that she fought... look at the girls album and you can see just what cancer did to her. Stop trying to bring the politics into a place where there are none and just remember this young girl. That is why the tree was planted to begin with.... to remember a life lost too soon. Maggiesmom and bookkeepr..... I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine being the parent of a child lost too soon. My heart aches for you both. Bookkeepr... I just spent an hour on your daughters website and I must say... I am ashamed of myself. I read some of your updates on Holly's relapse and impending death and I wept. In one hour, I realized that I have no problems. It would be an eye opener for everyone to read the updates dated just before this child's death and to read the link titled... The ugly truth of cancer. I will remember Holly daily. Thank you.

From Holly's site: "On October 18, 1989, at 6:51 pm- a wonderful red-headed child breathed her first breaths of life in my arms.......my heart was filled with joy."
I've experienced that same joy when my children were born and cannot imagine the pain and suffering of losing one or both of them. The site is wonderful bookkeeper. My condolences to you and your family, same for you maggiesmom.
Very eloquent post proudparent, I don't see the need for politics on this thread, it's about the GPD doing something positive, to offer a glimmer of hope for a family that lost their beloved child. Thanks for the reminder of how precious life is each and every day Ms. Crutchfield and bookkeeper.
