Just say no to trophies

It’s not OK to shoot grizzlies, cougars, giraffes, elephants and zebras for sport. It’s not OK to take down a living creature for the sheer thrill of it. And, it’s certainly not OK for the Natural Science Center to celebrate this behavior by allowing someone’s game collection to occupy space in a building that should appreciate the value of life (“Big game trophies donated to Natural Science Center,” N&R, Feb. 22). Children who visit this public space don’t need the extra affirmation of weapons and senseless killing. Just say no.

I'm not a huge fan of hunting for sport, but you have to admit that it's better than soccer.

...extra affirmation of weapons? Affirmation that what? They exist?

wonder how she feel about eating meat? Ever seen a chicken are cow killed for the sport of eating?

The museum would do well to build a big game hunting section, complete with a collection of large caliber rifles. I'd like to see a .577 Tyrannosaurus Rex. Doubt they could afford it though.

Wow- I was momentarily transported back to '68.
All those delightful little hippie chicks with daisies and face paint singing of their love and kinship with animals.

I feel the key word in the entire rant was "weapons".

We must pretend they do not exist until we can be rid of them.

Teresa Dail, each month you drop an unfertilized egg down the toilet . . . do you cry about what could have been?

Get real you hippie . . . and start stimulating the economy . . . thats where our real problems lay presently . . .

Ah, but she is! By ranting about not wanted DONATED heads, she is forcing said heads into the market. These heads will fetch a price from the market, that the previous owner will spend, which could be the final $ it takes to jumpstart the economy!

Oh ye of little faith.

I agree, we shouldn't shoot deer for sport. I enjoy running them down with my car.

A widow had stuffed carcasses that her own kids did not want. Her choice was the landfill or somewhere else. The somewhere else accepted either a Rothechilds (throphy hunted till near extinction), a reticulated or Masai stuffed giraffe. The stuffed zebra may be a Burchell's, Grevy's or Chapman. Maybe the Natural Science Center has a plan to exibit signs explaining hunted till near extinction or some other environmental purpose. The animals are dead and stuffed. Future upkeep on dead stuffed animals is high. Even with maybe some original expert taxidermy carcasses tend get stinky and dusty.

. . . running them down with a car . . . hell we all know the deer was going to commit suicide anyway . . .
