Person’s genetic makeup predetermined at birth
A few points to consider after reading Pastor Bledsoe’s letter to the editor on Feb. 28.
We all have a genetic makeup at birth. We have curly hair, straight hair, or no hair at all. We have blue eyes or brown eyes and many other shades. We have white, brown, or black skin and many shades and hues in-between.
Sexuality is predetermined before birth. It exists as a continuum from totally heterosexual to totally homosexual with bisexuality in the middle.
It seems that Pastor Jesse Bledsoe would endorse the ordination of a single homosexual, but not one who is married or living in a partnered relationship.
He seems to forget that homosexuality is genetic and cannot be changed any more than can the color of one’s skin.
I have a question for him: Since we are all sinners, is it right to single out anyone because he is different?
Oh, by the way, I am a Presbyterian too.

There are people with genetic predisposition to alcoholism, yet the Bible still calls alcoholism a sin. Just because all people sin, and sinning is therefore "natural" to us, it does not make the sinning correct or acceptable.

If the good pastor is excluding homosexuals because they are "unrepentant sinners" why not exclude those who continue to practice gluttony? Aren't fat people "unrepentant sinners?"

The city’s oldest Jewish synagogue is holding a special “GLBT Shabbat” service for the gay community — just as the latest salvo in the battle against homosexuality in North Carolina includes a proposal putting the prohibition of gay marriage in the state constitution.
I was really pleased to read this in today's news.
Also liked this ending to the article:
“There really should be, in terms of marriage in my opinion, a separation of church and state,” Guttman said. “If the church down the street from me doesn’t want to have anything to do with it because of religious reason, I respect that totally. But I do have a problem with the government trying to define what is a marriage and what is a civil union, especially at a time when we have so many other problems.”

Huck: could you please show me the quote in the bible that says that alcholism is a sin.
Of course it can't be a sin if it is genetic. No one can help what genetics predetermines for any individual. When the bible was written they had no knowledge of genetics and the role it plays in how people behave. The bible is severely outdated and if it is to be followed needs to be rewritten for modern times to reflect upon the technical knowledge that we now possess, and the diversity of each individual.

addeum: Jesus and his deciples drank wine quite often and so did alot of other people back in those days as well as ale. Could they have been alcholics too? Don't know do ya?

And just where in the helix is this homo gene?

Monica, I agree, and there are ALOT of fat people out there proving that one right. I know several ministers that are morbidly obese. Wonder just how much Pastor Bledsoe weighs.
Vengence is a sin too but I see ALOT of that on this site by those that claim Christianity. So you see there are alot of hypocrites that post on here as well as go to church.

"There are people with genetic predisposition to alcoholism, yet the Bible still calls alcoholism a sin. Just because all people sin, and sinning is therefore "natural" to us, it does not make the sinning correct or acceptable."
Even better, there is no such thing as sin! I know this is shocking to some of y'all, but you really don't need a threat of (an eternal, horrifying spanking) hell to be a good person. I am a good person and will continue to be one because... I want to be! Imagine that!
"And just where in the helix is this homo gene?"
We haven't found the gene itself yet. However, we do notice that multiple (if not all) sexual animals have homosexual relations in some form.

Molene, I think that the homo gene is pretty close to the gene in you that makes you stupid and narrow minded. Altho the homo gene is a more highly developed gene than the stupid gene. You are living proof.

Well said Slaan! now if we could convince all these blundering idiots of our theory and belief this would be a much nicer world. Those of us that are decent and good people by nature and not by fear and the only true people in this world, all the rest are hypocrites because they claim to be nice and good but in reality they are devious and hateful, vengeful people. Hell just read some of the vindictive comments on this blog. Enough said.

well not necessarily this paticular letter but any and all blogs on this site.

"Oh, yeah, Monica I forgot to warn you about Dan he will really try to engage you in a confrontation so just ignore him as he is one of the biggest blow hards on here. Dan has a tendency to take things very personal and thinks that all derogatory comments are directed toward him, I suspect he has mental issues."
Funny how a person who considers him/herself "decent and good", yet in the very same post calls others "blundering idiots" and "devious and hateful" and then rails about hypocrisy.
outspoken does the same thing with the personal insults. To his/her credit Slaan keeps it civil.
You just stepped in the doo again itsallgood. If you wish to consider yourself "decent and good" please practice what you preach.
Very Demon Deaconesque. Hmmmmm???

I thoroughly relish the covetousness of negroes and homos. Thanks again.

Dan is the man, this day, again. Neo forever!

Monica, you gripe my ass with your better than thou attitude. Get a frigging life.
".. nothing more than foul smelling druggies with bad breath who lack common sense,"
For a second there I thought you were talking about women who get vanity abortions.
Obviously not- they destroy many more lives.
Beware Monica- whatever your vice is can be taxed into the black market as well.
Oh, and while you are walking on water and healing the lame, perhaps you could shed more of your inspirational insight on the rest of us poor imbeciles.
Monica, it must be awfully high up on that horse you ride. It a wonder you can see any of us little people way down here. Don't get a nosebleed.
Monica, I guess we can put you down as a non smoker?
Please, be careful up on your soapbox, we wouldn't want you to fall.
Monica, I guess we can put you down as a non smoker?
Please, be careful up on your soapbox, we wouldn't want you to fall.YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE!
Before you leave, be sure to give ALL your belongings to the tobacco industry. Because most likely the tobacco industry in this state paid for most of them.
Monica, while you have the right to express yourself, we have the right to disagree.
It must be lonely being you. However I don't feel sorry for ya.
If I ever see you walk up to someone on oxygen and ask them that question, hopefully you will have your wings on. You will need them to escape. Oh, and the halo would be a nice touch too. *griN*
*mutters* Devil woman*, that's what she presents as.
these are just some remarks made on a previous letter directed to Monica I don't see alot of love and Christian behaviour here.

Well, I'm not Christian, so I'm not into this whole sin and going to hell thing. Oh, but wait, I AM going to hell though. I believe the line was, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live".
So, I guess I will be there with all the gays and sinners, (which is most people apparently). Well, at least it will be one hell of a party. And I will always look smokin' hot!

Dan, you must be gushing with pride to be given such accolades from someone like Molene Gunch, and on top of that, also being in the same esteemed group with neo.
I don't know why she didn't include JPRT to the mix, except like I said in prior threads, they're probably one and same person.

If sexual preference is genetic, then gay liberation may end homosexuality. Hear me out here. In the past, gays were pressured to marry in spite their lack of attraction to the opposite sex. They procreated and thereby passed this "gay gene" to the next generation.
Let them come out of the closet & bond with other homosexuals, and the gay lineage comes to a screeching halt.

monica, monica, monica. None of those posts came from me itsallgood, not my MO.
Soooo, let me get this straight please. Because some others laid into monica, and I'll agree some of the posts were not appropriate, does that justify your calling others blundering idiots, stating that you suspect I have mental issues, etc. all the while referring to yourself as "decent and good"?
Help me out here please, I'm confused.
As my momma always told me "two wrongs don't make a right".

new-sense, I don't control what others post here, if my post makes someone happy, well as Briscoe Darlin used to say "more power to 'em."

While I realize that atheists and followers of other religions can be and very often are "good people," I'd hope they understand that what drives a good number of Christians is a lot more than an "eternal, horrifying spanking."
Posted on March 4, 2009 8:31 PM
*...a lot more than the fear of an "eternal...."
Posted on March 4, 2009 8:33 PM
Of course, of course. That was a generalization of what the more conservative, evangelicals believe. They actually think that Hell exists, and their whole reason for behaving morally is to not go there. I.E: I am good because I am afraid or I am good because Daddy tells me to be. Level 2 and 3 on the ethical development scale IIRC that most are out of by adolescence.
Most Christians (and others) work on the higher end of the development scale like normal people with the reason for being good, goodness itself. I apologize if my example was a bit too broad.
"Let them come out of the closet & bond with other homosexuals, and the gay lineage comes to a screeching halt."
It would be a recessive gene(s) that carries the trait. And as it is more or less 'neutral' in the natural selection sense, it will keep popping up no matter what.

For outspoken's benefit: "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." (Ephesians 5:18)

I've been gone for a while because I am stupid enough to start *another* business in a bad market environment, but I am glad to see Dan and rahrah are still here.
And just to see the expression "eternal, horrifying spanking" in a N&R forum is worth the wait!
I see no lack of incivility--the demons of heck are in full force.
I have to dispute one point: our genetic makeup is not determined at birth, its determined at the instant of conception. It is, in fact, the definition of conception.
I do not claim to have the answers to sexuality, mainly because I am too busy to care what other people do with whatever's in their pants. But I had to laugh when I realized that IF sexuality is determined by genetics AND we know genetics are determined before birth, that means there MUST be gay babies :D

Huck: From what I have read in the Bible Jesus drank plenty of wine!! I have often wondered if he was drinking the day he cursed the tax collectors and turned over their table? We will never know will we. It certainly wasn't the reaction of a man in control of his emotions.
I see where it you quote makes no reference to "alcholism", just to not get drunk. Do you suppose it was interjected because of what Jesus and some of his disciplies did while under the influence?
