Reduce Battle’s salary out of fairness to others

It is insulting to my sense of fairness, as well as my business acumen, that Stanley Battle, chancellor of N.C. A&T, has announced his resignation effective June 30 and now proposes to go on “research leave” until Dec. 31, still receiving his annual salary of $273,156 per year. After his research leave, it is proposed he will be a tenured professor.

All of this while cutbacks are being made to the state’s educational facilities and professors at A&T are being laid off. He came to the school only a couple of years ago, and has resigned.

How could we expect him to honor any prolonged professorship on his return from his $136,000 research leave? Surely the UNC administration will not fall for this boondoggle.

"The latest NCAA Academic Progress Rate Report shows for the fourth year in a row, football players' grades fell below the national average.

According to the latest NCAA report, A&T football players scored 856, far below the 925 minimum passing mark."

Where's the outrage for fostering dumb people into society?

"We will provide the support necessary for you to complete college and meet a new goal: by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world."

hugh, it's no secret. It's about quantity, not quality. Not just at A&T, but all over. Standards can't be maintained and graduation rates still increase, and I'm very interested in how this administration will tweak their national tests to show blanket improvements in education in a mere four years.

I wonder if the national test scores will eventually be part of college admissions, too. Maybe not even individual SAT-like scores, but group ones. That will be fun. Maybe just tie it to the driving exam. Can you parallel park? You're accepted!

And just wait until GOVCARE® births its doctor shortages. In 30 years watch the med schools and legislation closely. Guess what they'll have to do to "once again have the highest..."
