Movie rentals for free
I recently mentioned a story comparing the cheapest way to rent movies.
But an article that ran in our business section Wednesday also points out libraries are joining the movie rental business, sometimes for free.
It warns the shelves can be pretty bare on a Friday night, which begs the question: What kind of choices are out there at other times?
Ah, not much, at least at the local library I checked out this morning.
The shelves that housed DVDs at the Greensboro Central Library were filled with multi-disc documentaries (a 15-disc "Women Unbound" series, whatever that means), or how-to advice - 20 DVDs on "Today's Homeowner with Danny Lipford" and "Leisa Hart's "Fit Mama Prenatal Workout."
Well, at least it's free. In Greensboro, you can rent up to six videos per person for nothing.
I did spot a few movies including "Phone Booth" and "How Green Was My Valley."
The library had four times as many movies on videocassette, so you had more choices. But I didn't say better choices. Just more, including such gems as National Geographic's special on Osteoporosis and a documentary on prostate disorders.
Oh, wait. There's a movie starring Jerry Lewis as "The Delicate Delinquent."
Break out the popcorn and the hijinks.
