A great deal on DVD players
Circuit City has Cyberhome DVD players (progessive scan) on sale for $24.99 (after $15 mail-in rebate), which is a great deal.
But is it junk or worth getting?
Worth getting.
I bought one at Best Buy almost two years ago and it's worked ever since.
I was so impressed I bought one for my mom and my mother-in-law during the past year.
This was their first DVD player, and they wanted something easy to use and cheap. Just something that will play movies on a standard television.
Not everyone agrees it's a good deal.
Reviews at Circuit City's Web site were mixed, although only five contributed.
One reivewer complained the remote buttons lacked certain features (didn't elaborate) and the buttons are tiny. That makes it even harder to see in the dark.
Yes, they are tiny, all right, but I haven't had a problem using it.
Another complained the screen freezes and the picture skips, although we haven't had that problem.
By the way, it received 2.5 stars out of 5 among the 210 reviews the DVD player received at Amazon.com, which is selling them for $39.94 (used for $29.99).
"True, it lacks the bells and whistles that the pricier players bring, but it serves its purpose," one reviewer writes.
That about sums it up.
