Taking a bite out of Apple
Some consumer electronics companies have been trying to take a bite out of Apple's dominance in the portable music player market in the past few years.
Take iRiver's H10 20GB portable digital player as one example. Office Depot has it on sale for $150 (regular $300), a competitive price.
But is it the real deal or not worth your hard-earned bucks?
Hard to say. That's because reviews have been mixed.
Take pcmag.com, for example. Here's what it had to say in a review of the player in August.
Bottom line: "iRiver has dumbed down its H300 series in search of mass appeal, and the results aren't particularly impressive."
Pros: "Easy to use. Convenient extra features. Bass enhancement works well."
Cons: "Line-in recording requires optional cradle. No removable battery. Photos look bad. No on-device file deletion."
