Family dining out deal

The Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon off Battleground Avenue in Greensboro lets the tykes eat free on Tuesdays off the kids' menu, according to mykidseatfree.com.

As a side item, before you toss the junk mail, be on the lookout for any free appetizer coupons from Lone Star. You'll see one in the mail from time to time (I believe it's something like get a free appetizer with the purchase of two entrees).

Going ape over a video game deal

Sears has the King Kong video game on sale for $20 for the Xbox 360. That's a good deal when you consider 360 games typically sell for $60. And Kong is a fun game.

I'm playing the Xbox version as we speak (got that for $18 used last week). Enjoy killing mutant bugs and dinos so far but can't wait for the main course - doing battle as Kong, kicking some dino arse and wreaking havoc in New York.

Ahhh. There's nothing like unleashing your inner Kong after a long day at the office.

$2.73 a gallon?

That's what GreensboroGasPrices.com, a GasBuddy Web site, is reporting this morning concerning the lowest price of gas in the Triad area. But hey, the morning's still young.

Not that paying $2.73 is something to celebrate. But that's lower, not higher, than what was reported at that Web site late last week.

Maybe it gets better before it gets worse?

I'll have to ask our resident gas guru - Don Patterson - about it.

Replacing your cell phone

If you need to replace or upgrade your cell phone but are reeling from sticker shock at the local cell phone store, there may another alternative.

You can get an upgraded replacement for just under half the retail price at eBay, according to Jennifer Openshaw's column at marketwatch.com.

$2.64 a gallon?

That's what GreensboroGasPrices.com, a GasBuddy Web site, is now reporting this morning concerning the lowest price of gas in the Triad area. It was $2.74 a gallon on Monday.

What's going on?

I heard WSJS mention gas prices were falling on the radio this morning. They interviewed someone at AAA.

I'll let you know when we're doing a follow to the last story we wrote about gas, which said prices averaged just below $3 a gallon statewide Aug. 8.

Update: We have a story about gas prices scheduled to run in Friday's paper.

60 inches? You'd have to squint

Let's face it. You need a 61-inch television to see all the NFL action up close and personal. Don't expect me to come over, raid your fridge and take over the couch on Sundays with some embarrassing 60-inch or - God forbid - something even smaller.

Dealnews.com mentions a Samsung 61-inch is on sale at Amazon.com for $1,940 shipped.

tv.jpg

$2.62 - How low can you go?

The trend downward continues. Don Patterson has a story about gas prices scheduled to run Saturday that will no doubt shed some light on what the heck's going on since we last wrote about it.

You won't believe some of the responses, but you'll have to buy a copy of today's News & Record to check them out. Still a bargain for 50 cents.

Dumpster diving - don't be shy!

Northwest Airlines, which is under bankruptcy protection, offers advice for employees on how to better handle their money, including this gem, according to the Washington Post (registration required):

"Don't be shy about pulling something you like out of the trash."

Hmmm.

"It's not that any of these tips is unreasonable -- except for the one recommending Dumpster diving -- it's the gall of a company under bankruptcy protection telling its employees how to better handle their money, and in a frivolous, humiliating manner," Michelle Singletary writes.

No, not the Beast, although don't knock it. Lot of fond memories of the Beast in college. Hold on. There's something in my eye.

We're talking Budweiser, baby. Just in time for Labor Day weekend (coincidence? Hmmm.), Harris Teeter has cases of Bud Light, Miller Lite and Coors Light for $11.77 each (limit two). That comes to about 50 cents a brew.
