As a side item, before you toss the junk mail, be on the lookout for any free appetizer coupons from Lone Star. You'll see one in the mail from time to time (I believe it's something like get a free appetizer with the purchase of two entrees).

Each Friday, Amazon.com has deals on a bunch of stuff worth of checking out, so says dealnews.com .
Includes deals on 150 items such as clothes, grills, furniture, kitchen gadgets, watches, GPSs.
What you need to know, (store schedules, what's included, etc.) in good 'ole plain English, here.
CompUSA has a 17-inch LCD monitor on sale for $130 (regular $200).

Sears has the King Kong video game on sale for $20 for the Xbox 360. That's a good deal when you consider 360 games typically sell for $60. And Kong is a fun game.
I'm playing the Xbox version as we speak (got that for $18 used last week). Enjoy killing mutant bugs and dinos so far but can't wait for the main course - doing battle as Kong, kicking some dino arse and wreaking havoc in New York.
Ahhh. There's nothing like unleashing your inner Kong after a long day at the office.

Apple is selling refurbished iPod Nanos (4GB) for $170, notes Dealcatcher.com and other shopping Web sites.

Looks like you could save a chunk of change.

For less than the price of a soda (sodas aren't good for you anyway), you can get your hands on 176 pages of Discover the Triad fun.
Now I call that a bargain. I'll let the boss man explain further.

Update: It's also online at news-record.com's home page:

Now if only you could tell that fish to smile and say cheese.

That's what GreensboroGasPrices.com, a GasBuddy Web site, is reporting this morning concerning the lowest price of gas in the Triad area. But hey, the morning's still young.
Not that paying $2.73 is something to celebrate. But that's lower, not higher, than what was reported at that Web site late last week.
Maybe it gets better before it gets worse?
I'll have to ask our resident gas guru - Don Patterson - about it.
So says Delly Tamer, president and chief executive officer of LetsTalk.com, in an Associated Press article regarding the rise in prepaid cell phones' popularity.

Kmart has a TracFone Nokia prepaid for $30. Includes 60 minutes of air time.

You can get an upgraded replacement for just under half the retail price at eBay, according to Jennifer Openshaw's column at marketwatch.com.

What's going on?
I heard WSJS mention gas prices were falling on the radio this morning. They interviewed someone at AAA.
I'll let you know when we're doing a follow to the last story we wrote about gas, which said prices averaged just below $3 a gallon statewide Aug. 8.
Update: We have a story about gas prices scheduled to run in Friday's paper.
Coupons are now being featured online through at the News & Record's Triad Marketplace. Scroll to the bottom and click the coupons link.

Let's face it. You need a 61-inch television to see all the NFL action up close and personal. Don't expect me to come over, raid your fridge and take over the couch on Sundays with some embarrassing 60-inch or - God forbid - something even smaller.
Dealnews.com mentions a Samsung 61-inch is on sale at Amazon.com for $1,940 shipped.

The trend downward continues. Don Patterson has a story about gas prices scheduled to run Saturday that will no doubt shed some light on what the heck's going on since we last wrote about it.

Hmmm.
"It's not that any of these tips is unreasonable -- except for the one recommending Dumpster diving -- it's the gall of a company under bankruptcy protection telling its employees how to better handle their money, and in a frivolous, humiliating manner," Michelle Singletary writes.
