Xbox 360 price cut

More good news for gamers: The Xbox 360's price is dropping from $400 to $350 starting Wednesday.

The Xbox 360 without the hard drive will sell for $280 (regular $300). That's low: The PlayStation 2 sold for $300 when it launched in 2000, same price as the original Xbox when it launched in 2001.

Today's news also follows Sony's announcement it's dropping the price of its 60-gigabyte PlayStation 3 by $100 to $500.

The video game kings of the block are feeling the pressure from Nintendo, which has been hugely successful with its Wii gaming system. And its $250 price tag still can't be beat.

Great deal for less than $5 a gallon

A public service announcement for broke college students (yes, I know, that's redundant): You can now, at least temporarily, afford something other than PBR or the Beast.

Coors Light is not my cup of beer. But for $10 a case? Dude, are you kidding me? That's what it's selling for at Harris Teeter through Tuesday. (Limit 2).

Cheers.

Cheap eye candy

Gazing into the heavens this past weekend in my mom's rural backyard in Virginia, my 6-year-old nephew saw four tiny, sparkling points of light surrounding a larger point of light.

They were Jupiter's four largest moons circling the solar system's largest planet seen through a telescope I bought a few years ago at Radio Shack for something like $50.

Moral of the story: You don't need some highfalutin, $1,000 telescope to check out the universe.

And to be like the coolest uncle ever for showing him some pretty mind-blowing stuff? Priceless.

A game that's getting killer reviews

The highly-anticipated video game BioShock is hitting the store shelves this week. Most places are selling it for $60 for the Xbox 360, but Circuit City has it on sale for $50. So is it worth it? I'd say yes, based on the demo of the game I played over the weekend.
