Gazing into the heavens this past weekend in my mom's rural backyard in Virginia, my 6-year-old nephew saw four tiny, sparkling points of light surrounding a larger point of light.
They were Jupiter's four largest moons circling the solar system's largest planet seen through a telescope I bought a few years ago at Radio Shack for something like $50.
Moral of the story: You don't need some highfalutin, $1,000 telescope to check out the universe.
And to be like the coolest uncle ever for showing him some pretty mind-blowing stuff? Priceless.
