A deal that is too good to be true

I thought I found a great deal on recordable DVDs: 100-packs for $10 at Office Depot.

Too good to be true? Yep. The first sign something was amiss was the photo depicting the sale didn't match what was being sold (50-packs are shown in the ad). It was a typo - ad should have said 50, not 100, according to the Office Depot worker I spoke to at a Greensboro store yesterday. So it's 50 for $10.

Oh well. Still a good deal though. Deal ends today.

A fair deal

Bring five Lowes Food brand cans of food to the Dixie Classic Fair today and admission is free.

Donated food will benefit the Crisis Control Ministry, which helps families and people get back on their feet.

A few of my favorite deals

Pizza and Bud Light and ice cream and ribeyes,
Crinkle cut french fries and Granny Smith apples,
Tender asparagus great for home meals,
These are a few of my favorite deals.

And they're all on sale this week at Triad area grocery stores:

A few highlights:

Freschetta frozen pizza is $4 (regular $6.30) at Harris Teeter.

Cases of Bud Light and Budweiser are $14.50 at Kmart Super Center.

Boneless ribeye steaks are $7 a pound at Lowes Foods (regular $11 a pound).

Also at Lowes, buy 1, get 1 free on Nathan's fries (jumbo crinkle cut or onion rings). Save $2.95.

Granny Smith apples are $1.80 a pound at Harris Teeter (save about 20 cents a pound).

Asparagus is $3 a pound at Food Lion (regular $4 a pound).

5 video games for 1 price

It's the best bargain on video games I have ever seen. Called the Orange Box, it features Portal, and Team Fortress 2 and three games from the critically acclaimed first-person shooter Half-Life series.

I've played Half-Life 2 and I loved it. The game's gravity gun, which lets you pick up objects and hurl them, is one of the best video game weapons ever made. And what's not to love about a spinning saw you fling at the bad dudes? It's a slice of heaven.

We talk about it in this week's GameBuzz show.

Media player memory lane

Seems like only yesterday when I paid $100 for my iPod Shuffle, which included a then hearty 512 MB of storage space.

Now you can get a player with four times that amount of space for half that cost, not to mention additional perks such as watching video, recording audio, listening to the radio and viewing photos.

Case in point: Sears has a 2 GB digital media player for $50 (regular $70). Deal ends Saturday.
