Free Xbox 360?

An ad in Xbox Magazine caught my eye about a Web site offering a "Free Xbox 360!"

The ad proclaims: "Absolutely free. Guaranteed. No Gimmicks. No Hassles."

Too good to be true?

Yes.

I know, I'm just as shocked as you are to hear there are some strings attached.

That is unless you think committing yourself to offers on stuff ranging from credit cards to DVD clubs, which require minimum annual purchases on DVDs they sell for "as low as $19.95" ($19.95? Who pays $20 for a DVD these days when you consider prices are falling due to the current format eventually becoming obsolete?) to buying a "$250" putter for $29.95 (so why isn't this business bankrupt?) or a $40 box of cigars is not a gimmick or a hassle.

So technically, sure, they're giving you a free Xbox 360, (the cheapest version sells for $280). But you can't have it without spending some bucks on other stuff. And that can add up.

Oh well. You can fork out the dough for stuff you may not need or continue to freeload at your buddy's house and play with his Xbox 360 (not naming names, but you know who you are. Initials are N and D. First name rhymes with "ate.").

We'll talk about it some more in next week's GameBuzz.

Absolutely not a scam. Many sites only require you to do one trial offer. Don't believe me? Check out http://x-box-360-free.blogspot.com/ . The site recommended there only requires 1 trial offer (total cost: $0000) and 8 referrals.
