Talkin' bout a resolution
Handy little graphic in today's News & Record by artist Tim Rickard that simplifies the resolution confusion surrounding HDTVs.
My advice, for what it's worth: If you're a fellow gamer on a budget but want to use your TV to also watch hi-def. movies and cable shows including NFL games and golf and are looking for something in the 30- to 40-inch range, go with 720p.
I shopped around and settled on an Olevia 32-inch 720p HDTV, which has received pretty good reviews. I bought it at Circuit City on Aug. 30 for $550 (here's the user's manual). No regrets.
The kicker was my wife's reaction when I brought it home and we started surfing the channels. I clicked on the Discovery Channel in HD and my wife gasped, the quality was so good.
But what a difference a few months make price-wise. You can now get that very same TV at Sears for $477.
